    If it doesn't have look ahead, the attenuation is always behind the peaks, that is, it doesn't do anything anymore, it just puts waves of volume out of time with the peaks in your music.
    Still are musicians in 2024 who use limiters without look ahead and really put it first!?

    Hey Sage, please bring back time stamps. They were so helpful for finding sections quick when I'm trying to remember something from the video in a hurry.

    Limiter No.6 lives on my master bus because its the best sounding limiter that has close to 0 latency for producing, paid or free.

    • @MitchelHastings
      @MitchelHastings 5 місяців тому +3

      And what is the problem with latency on master? Lookahead means latency and is necessary to know in advance that peaks will appear, you don't have much experience in mastering. Limiters without lookahead are a disaster, they are always taken by surprise by peaks.

    • @lawinter1949
      @lawinter1949 5 місяців тому

      @@MitchelHastings I use it (though I use the TDR paid version now) becuase I have limiter for safety on my master when I'm producing. I need low latency to keep my workflow from getting interrupted by a delay when I push play. When I'm in the mastering phase I usually use either Ozone or Smartlimit. I use lookahead when I'm looking to make a more smooth master. I don't use it when I want a punchy master.

    • @RNLafferty
      @RNLafferty 5 місяців тому

      While writing, I don't mind having a low latency limiter living on my master, just to catch peaks without hurting my speakers or my ears. I can always switch it out later for higher fidelity.

    +1 for limiter no6. The TDR limiter 6 GE edition is also well well worth it!

    I really just want something to deal with intermale peaking/true peaks, without changing the frequency response all that much.... which one of these would you recommend for that? limiter z seems like a good option but I am unsure

    Why do they create aliasing? And why is the one that created the most aliasing your favourite? I have the Limiter No6 and it is great, but I'm looking for a transparent one I can use on my drum bus just to tame the peaks slightly before it hits my mix bus. Any suggestions? I have Loudmax but it adds an unwanted sound that I don't like.

    • @neutralfog

      His favorite limiter is the one with the least aliasing because of the x4 oversampling option.

      @@jurv7626 oh ok so it basically shares the same principles as a compressor. I guess having a limiter with extra controls on the master bus scared me. I use Loudmax because it's a simple threshold & ceiling only limiter. Lol. I'll try these out.

      I can only talk about ToneBoosters and TDL, and no, Waves has remained behind. These are much better limiters in terms of features, gui usability, sound quality. It won't hurt that they're also really cheap and don't have bad business practices.

      You mean recording, mixing AND mastering? Or just mastering? And also did you mean if he teaches engineering (recording, mix, master) engineering, or production? Two different things my man

    • @loganjvmes
      @loganjvmes Рік тому

      And there’s different types of engineers. Usually engineers that are doing work for an artist with a bigger label; they’ll have the song tracked (recorded) by an engineer. Then sent to be mixed by a mixing engineer. Then the final mix is given to a mastering engineer to master that mix! The process is beautiful. Then you can get deep if you want, sometimes there’s a specific person for vocal editing, which is done before the mixing stage. Which consists of pitch flexing and fine tuning those vocal notes in the melodies done by the vocalist, as well as getting rid of any unwanted noise, making sure each vocal take & words/syllables are at a consistent level. But a lot of the times they don’t have someone specifically for editing, some studios do though

    • @loganjvmes

      I think it’s solely based on what sounds are going into it as well as what limiter it is and the quality of that limiter you’re currently using.
