When you need to be at the Vatican at 8 but you have to fight l'Cie at 9.
So true my friend
LOL
LMFAO.
And then realizing that the Pope is a Fal'cie !
Lmmfao, nice.

Your kind feared the darkness, so we gave you light...
You begged us for the Purge, and did it not come to pass?
Now you spurn our counsel? You must learn your place!
Those words echo in my head. This guy was a literal pain to defeat.
CactusErebittsu is this why people hated ff xiii?
People GREATLY disliked it as a result of its "linear" nature which I remember IGN stating. I still think it's a load of shit because this game was an adventure and a half.

@@thebrandonrobert5693 I know right? "Waah but it's so linear" Yes, and it's still better than almost every open-world Final Fantasy titles
@@thebrandonrobert5693 I never understood that argument either, Final Fantasy X was what they would call 'linear' too, and is still beloved by everyone, and frequently told it's one of the best games to get into the franchise from.
easily one of the most impressive bosses in the entire serie if you ask me. that speech before the fight (and the other fights too) made this guy easily one of the more memorable ones

+Scmcmx Axjxk Gayphirot? Are you serious?
Scmcmx Axjxk fuck off
For real tho, don't matter what the haters say, if you enjoy things this moment stood out or we wouldn't all be here
I agree. FF13 definitely had a lot of flaws. However, the reveal of Dysley’s reveal as Barthandelus is one of the most memorable moment of the entire series.
And that’s coming from a FF6 fanboy.
Snow: "People are not yours to use!"
Barthandelus: "What else does one do with tools?"
I love this line so much, just... wow. Barthandelus is also Lord-Sovereign of the burn, apparently
Ironically enough, this line now applies to FFXVI.
I still come to this video to watch how cool this "villain reveal" was, lots of people criticize this game but the character of Barthendelus is simply perfect: a fake king/president who actually is an evil god and farms humans. His speech immediately after his transformation gives me chills every single time.
Barthandelus's lines still remain in my head to this very day. What a remarkable achievement, it has been so many years.
I love Barthandelus' whole speech there before the fight. So chilling, so terrifying, both in words and implication.
Totally that, his speech is serious yet grandiose
"What can mere mortals men are able to do alone"
"Without us death is all of which your capable"
"Your kind feared the darkness"
"We gave you Light"
"And now you spurn our councel? you must learn your places!"
Such beautifully vehement lines!
@@caiusballad4162Caius is a perfect antagonist.
To people dying to Destrudo:
The attack is meant to be lethal if you try to solely tank it. When he casts it at 6:47, notice that he resets the Stagger gauge. At around 6:55 onwards, however, you'll notice he grunts and rears his head. By keeping the pressure on and increasing his Stagger gauge while he's charging, you'll reduce the number of projectiles fired.
TL;DR: Don't stop attacking while he's charging Destrudo and it won't one-shot the party.
Just beat him the other day, for some reason I think I tried it but didn't work for me (perhaps I didn't commit enough) so I ended up with a wiping strategy. Since he barely one shotted me with that attack I decided to check my inventory to see if I could equip any item that could give me a little bit more of health (I could just grind a bit but I didn't want to, I felt the game was starting to get too easy so I decided to not level up the cristalium, skip some enemies sometimes in order to not level up and not check equipment for about 2 chapters and I wanted to win because I had a good strategy, not because I grandes and got some stats) and since depending on my position I would barely survive it I devided to use a paradigm that would isolate Lightning from the others and then just spam attack on order to keep it that way so they would barely survive, then heal and continue.
The weird thing is that for some reason once it worked he ended up being the curse that use the eidones that kill you once the counter reaches 0 and not only it killed me since I couldn't beat him fast enough (I went for a long resistance/endurance strat, not a damage one) but weirdly enough he didn't do it again in the next try wich was the winning one. Is something that he does if the fight goes too long? Is it a bug? I don't get it
am I the only one who thought the heads were the choir the first time they played?
The Last Brother Same here!! which made it even more frightening.
Nope. I wish they were.
@Charlie Reeder but the song goes on when you kill them lol

He maybe a bastard as boss, but he is a damn awesome villain
Standard boss? Usually, a standard boss wants to capture/kill the protagonists. This guy used the heroes as his own tools.

I think the ff13 trilogy is a ff game to start with if your new to final fantasy dose anyone disagree?
@@bigvick2429 i did start with 13.
Say what you will about the corridor progression, the 13 series had some of the best villains in video game history.
+Perry D I have to agree. I wasn't a huge fan of this game. But I must say that this villain is pretty cool. He brings up a lot of interesting philosophical points!
I love his design to he looks like the pope
I won't say the best as lot of the supporting villians are under utilized but I will say I always loved this one scene just because it was epic
i mean Caius is basically the devil after all a three headed dragon
But like... the villains in ff13-1 were barely developed at all except for dysley.
I remember playing this game for the first time and my jaw hit the floor when he revealed himself to be not just a fal'cie but the freaking leader of all the cocoon fal'cie. Such an intimidating villain. He effortlessly manipulates everyone into doing exactly what he wants.
The primarch Dysley is one hell of a vilain, I love all of his scenes in the game, the reveal of him being the gubernator is the best one, really feels like a man showing pure brutality and spite with the Latin music.
I kinda had a hunch but i didn't expect him to be that powerful I agree
I dont think Barthandelus gets enough credit in the FF community for being the only villian to get EXACTLY what he wants up until his death (which, again, is 100% the outcome he manipulated the protagonists to achieve).
Even Kefka was eventually thwarted after destroying the world.
Kefka _wanted_ to die - he just wanted everyone else to die first.

@@elternero6624 oh of course! Anything for my dear friend!
The story was a misunderstanded masterpiece.
The story is hard to follow. The constant mentioning of falcie and lcie and being the enemy. The writing even tells you the story is confusing. Mainly the falcie and lcie sides. Especially when they say pulse lcie.
The story is good but it needed more. It's too straight forward to he this confusing.
This guy kept me away from the game for almost a week. Had to go through grinding to finally finish him XD
I grinded first then I fought him he was a pain
I killed him without grinding. Even though he was a pain in the ass
I grinded previously not to face him, but to farm Credit Chips.
I think the next time you fight him was extremely hard, however this was challenging too
A week? Try a whole MONTH. This prick had me wanting to throw my controller every single day. The only reason I beat him was because of Haste. I'll always love this game, but I almost lost my patience so many times. Least he's not half as bad as Yiazmat from FF12 (a boss that has SO MUCH HP, it takes literal HOURS just to beat him...would not recommend, lol).
This game is still one of the most visually impressive things I’ve ever seen
To be honest I wish they didn't kill of Jihl Nabaat so quickly before the battle. I just think she just had a lot of potential of being a calculating and manipulative villain. I mean it's a complete shame we don't see more of her as a villain, but as a victim.
No it was NOT a complete shame. Her death was just part of the twist to reveal an unexpected surprise about Dysley. It's hard to see what other purposes Nabaat could've served aside from being manipulative, besides she's just a regular human and there was no way she could've been a real challenge as a "stage boss". As as villain, she was good yes but logically, there was just nothing else to be done with her.
I do think she would have made a great La Cith and I also think she would have been great to fight against . From what I was told you were supposed to fight her in the original version but the scrapped alot out of the game
Worry not. You can fight Nabaat in XIII-2's DLC.
BroadcastNinjastar It's l'cie btw
kazameltis Always wonder why we could see her in the trailers but barely in the game
I find this antagonist impressive for the way he handles the situation as he puppeteers the protagonist and her fellow friends. Also, I do not understand how he lacks a lot of insight ,but I would love to watch a prequel to Final Fantasy XIII to put more in-depth to Barthandelus succession to his role. Above all, not many villains make awesome introductions like he does.
ABSOLUTELY!!! having to confront a vehement situation which was not prefigurated, and handling it by just destroying philosophically your foes! the perfect gubernator attidute.
Fighting the Pope.
If the Pope was also an archangel.
lol 😂
This was one of my favorite boss battles. It was difficult, but not in a way that frustrated me. I -welcomed- the challenge. I remember having Sazh up, buffing, and just wailing on the boss, all the while praying that his destro didnt get me. Took me a few days, but when I FINALLY got him, I jumped, and cheered, yelling at my TV. It didnt only feel like a boss fight. It felt like an accomplishment. I felt the struggle that the story protrayed in those moments, and I ate it up. Just amazing.
It's the last thing to expect a sudden almost impossible fight out of the blue within the main storyline as previously final fantasy games only had optional super-bosses and you were levelled enough to be able to take on storyline bosses without too many problems, I struggled a lot with Barthandelus first time and I trained quite a lot, as soon as you get rid of the miniature heads, it becomes far easier, until then it's a big struggle but it was a refreshing change I liked about 13, though I found the 3rd form of him to be the easiest but this form of him has been known to make some players restart the game over since once your on board, it's almost impossible to level anything up and you have to try deal with the stats you have.
(Hell, I was used to seeing bosses and final bosses only having HP up to around 250,000, but once I played this I freaked out seeing some of their HP went well over the 2 million without being near the end game. xD)
Gonna have to disagree about this part turning people away -because- of the "almost impossibility" to level before this guy. The room before him, has huge exp gains from fights and also large chances to drop incentivenand credit chips, to help you level up your weapons. I think this is the part of the game where most people accidentally over-grind.
@@coughpillbox748 Having recently played on the PC port, I am unsure what you mean. I think this boss and the robot mech dude in the later half of the game (the dude associated with Cid) were tough since leveling was limited.
I think leveling aside too, they were just tough bosses in design. Barthandelus HP compared to other bosses at that stage of the game is just crazy too if you review the wiki of his boss fight and previous ones.
@@jamalmays4804 on my first playthrough when I was like 10ish maybe, this was difficult. But after many years replaying this fight wasn't particularly hard. You just have to be on your feet, FF13'S gameplay is unforgiving
Is posible gain level in Palamecia when you defeat Psicom Reaver.
Possibly one of the most epic cutscene/boss of the entire FF series.
Imo, best OST out of all the FF games.
Which is impressive because the ff b4 this had a great soundtrack
@reekhavoc2932 12 is amazing. I've listened to ff13 soundtrack for years before I ever played the game. Almost a decade. I just began the game about 2 weeks ago actually. I had the soundtrack a week before the game came out.
Ff8 will remain the best soundtrack to me but ff13 is definitely top 3. Maybe even the second one. Masashi Hamauzu is truly a gifted soul.
Check out Imeurat - Giant. I think he worked on this song cause it has that ff13 feel.
@@theerealatmwow that's definently Mr Hamauzu, thanks for this.
yes one hundred percent, Masashi Hamauzu has a god given talent. His intricate use of chords is what really makes him stand out. Last year Mr Hamauzu became my most played artist for the Spotify end of year wrap up, Kendrick Lamar 2nd 😂
Man of tastes, I'll agree with you there. FF8 is definently right up there for me in the top 3, and so is 12. Those are most certainly the only 3 albums from the FF franchise I have saved on my spotify. You impress me
His theme goes just as hard as it did when I was 16. Love this game and it's lore.
This is always one of the moments of this game that I remember. He looks kind of terrifying and seeing the characters expressions when he transforms coupled with the imposing music makes it so intimidating. Also can we talk about how well this game holds up graphically?

Definently
I remember when I first fought Barthandelus. When he transformed I was like "Oh Shit!"
Honestly I was mostly disappointed by XIII coming straight from XII and X. But this battle here, the twist reveal, the soundtrack, Barthandelus's lines, caught the magic of the older FF's right here. This moment here was just so excellent and I remember just thinking to myself "omg this battle theme is an absolute banger!" throughout the boss fight.
The Latin makes pretty much all of it.
Why disappointed ?
This game is amazing!! The boss fights are incredible! Playing for the first time right now.
Exactly!
Manic memories of this jewel of a game! Sealed away in my heart, forever!
"You must learn your place!" - Lines like that are reason why I don't lose hope on Square Enix after the atrocity that was FFXV.
Zebimicion Personally i liked XV but that is just my opinion.
???????????????? You crazy?
XV was pretty good IMO
XV was rushed, that the problem. ... the irony of that lol
XV lacks irrefragably some crucial things but it's far away from being a disaster, a good game, it ends just like this.
There never has been any bad final fantasy game, all of square's games are incredible, there is just some preferences with different old and new modern games.
This fight is a test of endurance. I killed him on my second try but I almost failed because when I actually won my reactions were starting to slow down.
Looking at this voice acting sure has come a long way since what it was during the PS1 era of gaming. People may say, "oh english dub sucks, japanese acting FTW!" Well yeah but ill take it now over what we had compared to oh say resident evil 1
Woah this hall is dangerous! XD
I agree. I just can’t get enough of that cutscene. The voice acting is spot on.
Personally, I like most english VA’s job so far. My favourite VAs are Liam O Brien and Casandra Lee Morris.
His reveal always gives me shivers! I got hooked further into the game after that plot twist!
Seeing this now, it looses its context.
But back in the days, when you were facused in the game and the "L-Cie" "Falcie" things, the fact that you discover that the old man is a Falcie was impressing. I remember the scene and the boss difficulty. Thats was great old days.
Loved this FF (and have played many mores)
"Now you spurn our counsel?! You must learn your place!"
The best line with "Without us death is all of which your capable" and "We gave you Light"
Barthandelus was the turning point in the game for me that finally sold me on XIII. Both in gameplay with needing to strategise the most against him, and the plot twist to the story involving him. That speech he gives to the party before you fight him still gives me chills.
I managed to finish this game on Monday and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is one game I will replay.
This guy is one of if not the best RPG villain ever.
"I am Fal'Cie" is the hardest line in the game
On my first playthrough this guy owned me countless times. For my second playthrough I learned how effective Haste + Tri-disaster was. Took me three attempts.
barthandelus is an awsome boss, and hes music and the characters faces makes you feel like you really face a god
After 12 years the players realized that this video game was wonderful, 1000x better than XV
And in 12 yrs they will realize FF XV was a complete game changer in the right direction

@@reekhavoc2932 ff16 at least looks like it’s upgraded similar to a hack n slash dmc style with button combos opposed to 15 which the only way to attack was to hold the action button lol I haven’t played vii remake so Idk what the combat is like on there
2:45 I saw this in the comments of another video, and I cannot unhear it. "Who ate all the bagels? Sephiroth!!"
Here it is 2017 and I still haven't beat this guy and just thought to look and see how someone else tackled him.
To all people struggling. That boss drove me mad and I wanted to play with light hope vanilla. It is just nearly impossible without sazh. He has the best buffs to kill him. (especially the speed boost). I Beat him with Sazh on my first try. (after more than a dozen with Light hope vanilla).
I yea i remember fighting him today for the first time. He killed me like 5 times. Changed members each time Than i changed back to the one i had on my first try against him. Lightning, Hope and Snow. And that time i won.
But damn was it one hell of a fight the first 5 times.
True the first barthandelus is just toxic und hard as fuck the other two times you phase him are very ez but the first time fighting him it took me 20+ trys to defeat him the other two times he died first try xD
Beat hin with light, hope and Fang
Thats pretty much the strategy I used with a couple modifications. I started off using a librascope which gave me all his weaknesses. Then I just picked them off one at a time with Sazh always giving me the right weakness.
One of the two actually good moments in this game.
When they learned he is a Fal'Cie they all looked so scared
That was the best moment
@@caiusballad4162 yeah i loved that too
It's interesting how similar in attitude Bathandalus has as Bhunivilze towards humans. 🤷🏼♂️
I didnt know how strong a Fal'cie is before seeing how strong a type B L'cie is in Final Fantasy-Type 0.
I feel like Jihl (or whoever you spell her name) would have been the next Beatrix she reminds me of her, wish she could have had more screentime in the game.
The Pontifical Christian influence in the stages, characters dialogues, music and battles are more beyond the state of receving dithyrambs ! sometimes the atmosphere remains me of summer Italia (6:24) (1:54), which is perfectly amazing.
Jesus is the greatest man to have ever lived.
This is really the only time you see true fear in lightnings face
His lines in this fight are epic....
Indeed they are!! Such vehemence.
“Farthandelus!”
Best boss battle in history of gaming!
Aster protoflorian wasn't bad tho
I had trouble with this boss as well
*I finished the game yesterday*
but this video really helped me to beat him in the end of chapter 9
awesome work Asephiroth
While Sazh and Vanille are typically a weaker duo, the fact that Sazh can cast Haste and Vanille is both a medic and saboteur is essential to this fight. It's essentially a dps burn. With doctor's code equipped on Lightning and about 40 potions, the fight is a lot more manageable than you might think- it's just entirely frustrating when you die very close to the end.
2:10 - I love that bit. No words necessary, just a look of sheer terror on everyone's faces. Reminds me a little of FFIX's cutscenes...
I don't see why people have so much trouble with this guy, really. I just throw a couple of shrouds, use rav/rav/sab and com/rav/rav on the face things, triple ravager on Bart until he's staggered, then com / com / rav...
Man, the writers KNEW how to get you oh "Oh, shit!"
I really hated this game, but they actually did do a good job holding the Fal'Cie back as boogeymen long enough that this moment was actually impactful.
Can we all agree that his boss theme is amazing
Ancient aliens the game
I would’ve love see sazh and the others fight off against Nabaat
You know, you don't have to manually input "Blitz" over and over like that. If you want to use the same combination more than once in a row, holding right while highlighting Abilities lets you use the "Repeat" command to recall the last sequence of abilities you used when last you were in control of the current Role.
All hail Robopope!
Quick question. When Sazh pointed his gun at Nabaat, WHAT THE FUCK WAS SHE THINKING?
She's a human. She can't dodge or withstand bullets. All it takes is one shot or two if you miss her head. After that, she'll be out cold forever. This is ridiculous. She just walks up to her death sentence and draws a poorly made police baton. What the hell was she thinking?
I mean, let's take Sazh's gun out of the equation for a while. Let's assume she walked up to them and they had all other weapons _except_ Sazh's guns. Well she'd still fucking lose because, unlike every other enemy in the game, she's a fucking human with no armor on her. Just cast fire on her and watch her turn to fucking cinder in the blink of an eye. I mean, Barthandelus casted ruin on her and she died. What made her think she could withstand the wrath of six powerful l'cie which single-handedly murdered her entire fleet?
This scene annoys me so much.
"You eminence, please escape. I'll grant you an extra second or two before I get brutally murdered due to my stupidity."
Hell, all she had to do to even stand a chance was just wait for all the soldiers and engineers in the room to assist her, somehow, before Barthandelus murdered them. But NOPE! She just walks up to them, practically holding a "kill me" sign. Pathetic.
Silly Nabaat. You suck...
Also, wtf is wrong with the party? Jilh draws her weak ass baton and they go all "GASP! She drew a baton and all we have is this stupid, STUPID pistol aimed right at her fucking head. How can we POSSIBLY survive this fight? She's so intimidating with her ineffective weaponry."
♞ Go Fuck Yourself ♞ Because video game logic.
༼ つ◕ω◕ ༽つ WOW Yep. Barthandelus the Troll-Faced did everyone a favor by giving Jihl Nabaat a "mercy killing." She deserved it. Every last bit of it.
"Why don't you leave, Jihl? Or rather, *_take_* your leave. Humans have no business here." (Barthandelus oneshots Nabaat with Ruin)
***** I thought the Jihl in the Colliseum was a construct of the harbinger. Not the real one, lol :P
She already showed her stupidness before by not knowing the right color for the alarm lol ez choice to make for Barthandelus
***** I know, right? lol
It's like she's a substitute or trainee or something. She was built up to be this intimidating general of an entire fleet and this was supposed to be her badass chapter but she went down like an amateur champ. The nameless lieutenant in the Vile Peaks who attacked Lightning and Hope was more intimidating than her.
Such an amazing score and epic enemy design! It sucks that there wasn't more going for XIII that could keep people from disliking it so much. It really seems like they had the opportunity but ended up losing grip of their original idea!
The trick, is to spend the entire charge-up time hitting him with all you got. Commando being the best job, if available. If he takes at least so much damage before it charges, it'll be a LOT weaker. You'll know when you've done enough damage, because he'll wince, and the charge will bog-down, some.
THE BEST FINAL FANTASY GAME EVER!!!! its suprising that something like this came out of final fantasy 4
Scandalous, barthandelus, everyone knows you can't handle this!
when i heard his voice, i had goosebumps when he turn to barthandlus
Oh man, this guy gave me so much trouble the first time I fought him. Destrudo would always absolutely... well, destroy me. Then when I think I’d be close enough, bam, he’d cast Doom and it would all be over for me. I had to restart my entire playthrough, only then could I prepare enough to finally beat him.

There’s 0 way I would have survived this without a guide 😵💫 Also, the comments about the scenes before the fight didn’t deliver. The scene was meh. It was short and felt rushed. Love when a villain draws it out a bit. Give me more of a reason to hate you. And really 1 hit and she dies? She didn’t even get a speech, I felt like we hardly interacted with her. We couldn’t even get to fight her first! What a joke, ugh. But this boss fight was fun, paired with the music.

Funny, cause the voice actor is S. Scott Bullock who voiced Logos in Final Fantasy X-2 (you can really hear it when he's in human form). He could switch from goofy incompetent sidekick to old, seemingly wise, scary and utterly EVIL villain.
I'm voting Barthandelus 2020, an real leader who actually delivers on his campaign promises.
This scene still gives me chills.

Cue epic Spoony Ragequit!
This guy reminds me all too much of a sphinx from Magic: the Gathering - it has plans that are way, way over your head, and it's not too shy to use you as its own personal tool.
Psyco Josho He's also kinda shaped like a sphinx.
This boss was a pain in the ass
