To solve the paradox, one must realize something first. You can be satisfied even in unsatisfactory conditions when you realize your power to achieve and be satisfied with the moment's creation on your way. You can feel safe even in the certainty of death because nothing can threaten that which is beyond living. Conquer your beast fear of death and embrace life not as an escape from death but as the vast potential you hold and offer everyone you encounter on your journey to improve this shared experience.

Why is this amazing Japanese teacher speaking in English? I don't understand all these film directors who spend so much time and money traveling to the most distant places, to meet the best Zen and Buddhism teacher, but then again, make them try to express their most profound ideas in a foreign language, the director's language. I wish I had come across Zen Master Dogen's writings at the same time I discovered Kapleau's The Three Pillars of Zen. Kapleau made the training into a long and arduous task. Whereas Dogen said "Practice and Enlightenment are the same." That comment calmed me down and helped put me into the present moment. I no longer put Zazen in time.

You know what's really strange? If you try to listen to him speak, it's hard to understand and very frustrating... but if you dont try to listen to him at all... and listen to the sound of the wind and the leaves and the chirping... then you begin to absorb what he's saying effortlessly.
Try it. Focus on the background sounds.. and dont worry about what he's saying... eventually you realize that he speaks with the rhythm of the breeze. If you listen with your rhythm, he's hard to understand, but if you listen with his rhythm then you can understand him.

Thank you for your post, El-Branden Brazil. The spirit we sense from seeing and hearing a master of Zen is a greater teaching than their words, I think. I am an old man, and I remember how Shunryu Suzuki Roshi FELT, much more importantly than his words. Of course he didn't float, but it FELT as though he floated.

I realize now that who and what we are cannot truly be described in words because words are just concepts. Who and what are just concepts. They aren't what is. The world isn't spiritual. The world isn't material. Those are also concepts. I am, might be the closest way of putting it into words and even that is still saying too much. The best answer is to give a smile and a wink. ;)

So you can never get enlightenment by intellectual understanding. Even though there's nothing to realise and everything is perfect the way it is now. I don't even know why I'm still typing maybe because intellectual understanding is easier then just sitting down and relaxing. Or my mind is on overdrive and cant stop. But if I don't have a mind and I am a mind what is there to be stopped. Words just don't help
