    Glucose enters the liver during the fed state and is shuttled towards glycogenesis, or building glycogen. Insulin activates the enzyme glycogen synthase which requires an ATP investment. Similarly, galactose is shuttled towards glycogenesis. The liver takes in all the galactose from the meal.
