Pretty good representation of the governor. I had 4 in my Splawn 4x12 which I just sold. Had governors about 10 years. I like them, but they are directional as stated. Smooth, but wanted to try something else. The governors are kinda dark, but something about the patriot series speakers(which I have only played the red white and blue) sound outta phase. Hollow. Like damage plan cd.
I whould love to test out the Man-O-War and the Texas Heat, but unfortunately I don't have the money to get those two speakers. But who knows, someday... ;-)
Excellent Demonstration. I Listened To It Through My SENNHIESER HD 280 PRO Studio Referencing Headphone's. They Don't Lie. I Feel The SWAMP THANG Provides Excellent (FAT-ROUND) Bottom End, With Less Break Up, With A Darker Midrange. The GOVERNOR Provides A Tight Low End, With A More Aggressive, Yet Warm Midrange, And Top End Sparkle. I'm Going To Match The SWAMP THANG, With A CV-75 In A *EarCandy BUZZBOMB* 2x12 Cabinet. I'm After That 80's Rock Tone, With Extra Bottom, And Punch Without The Ice Pick In My Ears High's. Excellent Matchup You Have There As Well. Thanks, And Do Some More!
dang .......Ive been a fan of Swamp thang for about 3 years ..... My Current amp needs more balls & less mids ..so I figured time to buy a swampthang ................ heaing this sounds to me like the Govner has LESS mids & I like the sound better than the swampthang./ hmmm. Which speaker can do chunky palmmutes at gig volume the best without sounding sloppy? Swampthang can, but can the govnor, if yes then i may be trying one out.
I have an Orange 212 cab loaded with 2 Governors. Thinking of swapping one of them for a Swamp Thang for more bottom end. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth the swap?
Are Orange cabs solderless by any chance? Thought about getting an Orange cab but have been hesitant too bc I want to be able to swap speakers without having to solder the wires to connect the speakers.
@@Stretchwreckedem469 Not sure. I bought my cab used and the celestion vintage 30's had already been replaced with eminence governors. I would think they would be wired with solderless terminals but I'm not sure.
A governor and wizard are a great combo!! Eminence speakers are better and less money then celestion! Not to mention there's so many choices with eminence! Don't get me wrong celestion v30s are one of the greatest but I think a governor or wizard just sounds better!👍🎸 good comparison and great riffs!!
Cool Video! I Have Mesa Roadster 2x12 Combo and I exchanged one of V30s to Governor. It is much better than V30, fuller, etc. I use SM57 for recording. Do you think it will be better idea to get Swamp Thang or another Governor ror metal?
+Goner Jenny Adding a ST does give you more room to play around with! At reheasals is just sounds awesome those two speakers, when playing live, you can choose which of the two you wanna have mic'd, (my other guitarist has 2 V30 so I go for the ST) so you have also a bigger guitar sound live and when recording, you can either track a speaker multiple times or blend the two together. So I'll say, you can't get wrong getting a ST!
Goner Jenny! either one of them will do its all a matter of taste. My personal taste is more the Govn'r, I use to own a ST and for my gigs, it was the Govn'r that fit better in the live mix which is Rock/Hard Rock. But for Death Style tune down, either one or mix and match...TONE IS SUBJECTIVE AND ITS MORE OF A PERSONAL TASTE.....
Dude, how hard was it modding your RGIT20FE from active EMGs to passive BKPs? Sounds great. I have the same guitar and am now intrigued about how you went about your mod to passive…Any regrets?
It was really easy actually! The covered pickups are the same size, new volume pot with push/pull and solder it. Now I don't have any clue about electronics but the guy who does all my guitar fixing and stuff said it was really easy to install them.
chaosmisa, I have a 4x12 cab and I plan to put 2 new speakers with my 2 G12K100. Do you think 2 Governors would be a good blend? I seems to me the Swamp voices like the Celestion G12K100.
To be honest, I have no experiance with the G12K100 but is they sound like the Swamp Thang my guess is that it should work fine! But do check if they are around the same decibel. If one speaker is 3 or more Db louder, you probably won't hear the other speaker.
I have done this exact combo with K100's and Governors. I thought it sounded really good but it does depend on what amp you are using. The Governors are slightly louder than the K100's but to me it was not overbearingly louder from my observation. I used it with a Mesa Boogie F50 head.

Interesting blend. They sound like 2 separate guitarists playing in perfect unison... they have their own very distinct Anglo/American voicing.
it's double tracked
Great job, gonna go with the Governor on this one.
Both were good but...
Sound good together.
Tracking with both speakers is almost a perfectly set up recording tone! That's fucking awesome!
Not bad at all for your first time micing up a guitar speaker! This was the exact comparison I was searching for.
Haha, me too. Exact comparison!
I was looking at both of these and I found this video. Exactly what I was looking for. Awesome video!
I liked the Swap Thang!
I'm digging the swamp things

This was great! Thank you! Have you ever considered doing a comparison of the Swamp Thang vs the Man O War and the Governor vs the Texas Heat?

how did that turn out? I'm really curious because I was thinking of getting that same combo!
Seems like ther swamp thing drowned out the bass guitar at the end. The governor seemed to highlight the bass guitar better
Dude, great video!
I just ordered both to run side by side.
MISFITSWITCH how do they sound together ?

WGS Reapers and Retro 30!
Fuck WGS... Eminence CV-75 eats them both for lunch.

wow speaker change who sound of an amp its hard to believe so did you change the setting of the amp or same setting with both speaker
+borhanus Both speakers are in the same cab (2x12) so basically I only moved the mic and record. So yeah, same amp settings!
sounds just like a V30/K100 combo

What is your tuning?
Drop C
Governor. Swamp Thang has too much of a low mid "daw" sound. Try WGS Reaper 30 watt and their Retro 30. I got 2 and 2 👍
Swamp Thing sounds like some Dimebag shit. Only sounds good in a PANTERA song. Governor is definitely a smoother V30 as stated. Governor wins.
Swamp thang and a Texas heat
..perfection
It is not, it is a terrible noise.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Terrible noize, metal should be forbidden by law.
Wtf is this lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
People who dislike metal are just pussies bro go grow a pair
This demo/review sucks...! I hate freaking noisy-ass metal shit !!!
