Hi, I'm from Victoria. Yes, you pronounced Fossatti's correctly. It's Texas' oldest deli. The downtown center square (Deleon Plaza) where the courthouse is and where Prosperity Bank is now located use to have two movie theaters that I went to as a kid. Prosperity Bank is now located where the Uptown Theater was located and directly across Deleon Plaza and the Uptown Theater was the El Rancho Theater. Downtown Victoria has seen a lot of construction and updating over the decades. Victoria became a town before Texas even won its independence from Mexico. Comanche Indians attacked Victoria and almost burned the entire town down and killed many of its early citizens.
Victoria is known as "The Crossroads" as it's located in the middle of Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi. The Gulf of Mexico is only 30 miles away next to Port Lavaca. Summers are very hot and humid. Ranching and farming were the main industries and are still very prevalent. Oil was discovered all around Victoria. Victoria has been the largest city outside of the major cities I mentioned before and because of the large land holdings, cattle and oil is why you see the many Mansions and other large homes in the area. Riverside park has been around "forever." It's the home of the Texas Zoo and also Riverside Golf Course. Unfortunately when it rains a lot the Guadalupe River will overflow and has flooded the Zoo area many, many times, otherwise the Guadalupe River is a great place to fish, tube and swim. The Pump House Restaurant is at the location of where the original Victoria Water Works was built. Thanks for visiting. Y'all come back and visit again! 🤠

The city of Victoria was founded by my 4th Great Grandfather. His wife donated the $ to build the St Mary's Catholic church. They have a fascinating heritage and legacy.

That is really neat to hear! It is so great that they have not only found the city but also contributed so much to it. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! I noticed a nice quiet town with very little traffic.

That's the one nice thing about the main highway (US 59) going around the city. The traffic was not too bad the entire time I was there. Thanks for watching!

Nice! I didn't know Victoria had history. When's the next freeway vid? I'm also deciding on making new playlists!

That's the cool thing about each city and town. They all have something cool about them. The next freeway video is this Thursday (I filmed a whole bunch in Houston).

Loved seeing all these old historical sights and buildings in Victoria. That courthouse was beautiful! Do you think you might ever moving down to Texas sometime in the future, or do you love Michigan the most? The weather is definitely more fair down there for sure. And no harsh winters. I know you mentioned that you have family in Texas.

They were really cool to check out! I don't see me living full time down in Texas due to the very hot summers, but maybe in the winter time when it is freezing cold and snowy here. I do have family in Texas, but the majority of my family is in Michigan. Thanks for watching!

When I looked at the map it seems that Victoria is a convenient halfway stop between Houston and Corpus Christi.

It pretty much is. It's the biggest city in between the two and is right in the middle.

Victoria is roughly equidistant to Houston, Austin (via US 87 and US 183), San Antonio, and Corpus Christi.
