    Hi Derek! What a wonderfully produced record of your pilgrimage! I'm so glad Bea made me aware of it. Another great option to consider when I finally get to Spain one day. Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Cheers Greg

    it is truly nice to see people who view the journey not as just another hike, but as a real pilgrimage. I've been a pilgrim to Greece and the Holy Land, and hope to be a pilgrim to Santiago in a year or two. Beautiful pictures that captured your thoughts

      We always get excited when we hear about someone setting out on a pilgrimage. The best advice we received was to take it easy, particularly during the first week and not to have unrealistic time pressures, best wishes, Derek

    Thanks for the nice video. I completed the Via de la Plata about a month ago, and am thinking about the Camino Primitivo for next year. The mountain scenery looks beautiful.

    Very nice video, thank you for sharing your trip. I just learned yesterday about the "Camino Primitivo", from a friend who plans to walk it in September. He said something inside of him makes him want to do this journey. Him and his wife in their 60's are walking about 10 miles per day to get in shape.

    Well done! A beautiful video of what looks like a sane (and the best) approach to the pilgrimage. It's not a race, but should be more like a spiritual stroll.

    Hi Pat, I’m confident that you’ll find the Primitivo no more challenging than the Frances. All climbs are on graded paths which can be taken slowly. The distance travelled each day also has a lot to do with how easy or difficult the walk is. You’ll also notice that we tended to walk shorter days than many others, usually around 20 km a day, and would usually start early and arrive mid-afternoon. It’s a beautiful path and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, Derek

    Hi Dave, thanks for your comment.We were walking in late September to mid October 2015 and saw very few others on the Pilgrim path. Maybe 5 or so groups per day that quickly overtook us. I’ve heard that the primitivo has about 10% the numbers on the French route, buen camino

    was the Primitivo difficult? 320 seems short, but I've heard there are some mountainous stages. I've done the Frances and found that my two favorite days were the first day where there is a steady upward climb in the Pyrenees and later a stage that ran from Astorga to el Acebo which was another pretty steep upward climb. Third favorite day was into O Cebreiro which was a very steep climb, but so worth it at the top

    Thank you for sharing your journey. I found your video very inspiring. My husband and I are planning to walk the Primitivo next year and have made a note of your itinerary. I am interested to find out how you broke up your journey from Campiello to Berducedo. You appeared to have walked via The Hospitales route but yet stayed 2 nights at Polo de Allande. Could you please elaborate on your itinerary for this section. I was wondering if you caught a taxi from Alto de la Marta to Polo de Allande then back up to the Hospitale Route the next day. If so...how easy was it to organise a taxi. Thanks again for sharing your memories.

    • @dereksteller2096
      @dereksteller2096  6 років тому

      Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comments. Originally we weren't planning to walk the Hospitale however its definitely worth it. The owner of the hotel at Campiello arranged for the taxi to meet us at the top of the pass at Alto de la Marta in the afternoon and then take us down to Polo de Allande where we stayed two nights. There's a shelter at the pass if you get there early. We then had the taxi take us back up to the pass after the rest day to continue to Berducedo, Derek

    • @jenniferatkinson9727
      @jenniferatkinson9727 6 років тому

      Excellent! Thank you Derek. The ability to arrange a taxi will at least give us the option of which route to take on the day, depending on weather conditions etc. Thank you once again, Jennifer

    What part of “No Photo’s” don’t people understand in the Cathedral during Holy Mass? There is an entire team of security and multiple announcements in various languages repeatedly asking, begging, “No Photos”, yet your selfishness and disregard continues to amaze and disturb me.
