When you torque the barrel nut, put the crows foot at 90deg angle to the torque wrench. Otherwise you're increasing the leverage of the torque wrench and throwing off the reading. They're designed to be used with sockets, which pivot around the chuck instead of extending the lever.
Love these vids. I have a 10.3 aero upper 300blk that I now have a very good idea what to build it out with. The rail and can from griffin holding up the way it did was impressive. Also well done PSA 2k rounds in 14 hours is impressive without major failures for something this inexpensive.

I bought a similar PSA 300BO upper from PSA in 2018. At that time, it came with an LPK, and a vortex red dot, for $300. It runs like a top. I call it my “Funny Badger” I have a similar Tromix setup in 458 socom- which I call my “Money Badger”. I’ll mention that the funny Badger cycles both well, but it is over gassed with supers
Tell me more about this "Money Badger", please. I've got it in my head to build one cause I already own and reload for 45-70. Thoughts on Tromix? Did you go with a barrel only or did you opt for the barrel/bolt combo?
I got a PSA 7.5" 300blk with a PDW style "brace" for around $300 with a nickle Toolcraft bolt. I put an oversized Midwest Industries rail that my YHM N2O suppressor can fit inside. (Edit: wow I commented before the video got to describing the build.)
I did a PSA upper with a 8.3 ballistic advantage barrel. The barrel was $90.00. $35.00 for breek Arms adjustable gas block and tube. Complete parts PSA upper $100.00 and a Axis MFG BCG $75.00, old radian charging handle. So a $300.00 upper I have been super happy with.
Amazing video as always. Got to give props to the people behind the camera and editing, I mean the amount of trust/balls that the camera man must have during the final night time drills to get all those angles was awesome.
What a fun video. My suppressed 300bo running subs is one of my favorites out of the collection, and I followed a similar budget build by using traded/used parts where possible.
Such a nice unbiased opinion and stance on the 300 blk out caliber as well as the useless nfa. Thank you for helping answer any questions I had on the caliber. Super job guys. Thank you all at Trex Arms may God bless you all and the mission. Amen
I will say i just built a Griffen Armament .300blk upper. That includes their barrel, rail, and Recce 7. About 300 ish rounds so far Sub/Super mix and it has ran fantastic, very very similar to the upper Lucas built! Super happy with it!!
Awesome content! You just confirmed some of the doubts I had with some of the PSA offerings. I was thinking about changing out the hand guards on mine, but you just figured out my light issue. I just subbed. Keep up the hard work.
You’re doing great reviews, please keep them up. The full auto was sick. Yeah, some people have similar set ups of the same rifle. You never know when you’ll be in a situation when some buddies could use some fire power
I had exactly the same problem as you had with the cerakoted aero tolerances (the mag release on the lower and rear takedown pin hole on the upper). By 41:11 I've actually got it fixed via sandpaper. Aero should send some complimentary sand paper with every upper/lower set. Otherwise I totally love these parts tho
I love the breakdown of the build process. You stated a goal for the build, different considerations for various parts, and discussion of price range. "How to build [budget, mid-range, Gucci] [insert build type/goal] in [insert caliber]" would make an excellent recurring series on this channel.
I put a similar one together a couple years ago. Choose the upper with a different rail from PSA which eliminated a few of the issues referenced. I was attempting to fit it all in a bag for $1000. It worked out.
I have to say Lucas I’m a little disappointed there was no quick rattle can paint job on this one. One of my favorite things about you and your channel is you’ll have these super expensive guns and aren’t afraid to just slap some paint on them where as other people are afraid to paint their PSAs lol
These guys are great! I buy alot of stuff from trex arms. They've done great things for 2A here in the great state of Tennessee. Id love to work there if i lived closer. Lol
Ah finally, some more Trex content. Really miss the Twitch streams, just got into Tarkov yesterday and have been having a lot of fun working on coms, PID, spotting movement in low vis environments. PS. I will not buy PSA even if my state strikes down the AWB. Their unwillingness to support the 2nd Amendment for residents of my state while other companies still will is abhorrent. They abandoned my state immediately after the AWB, and have refused to ship any AR related parts here even after numerous other companies have resumed business or never stopped doing business with us. If you need an affordable build PLEASE go with other companies that really do support the 2nd Amendment: Aero/BA, BCM, Geissle, Anderson, Stag, Troy, Wilson Combat, SOLGW, LWRC, etc. To clarify, the state is CT and we have had the ability to build "others" for years. Combine that with grandfathered rifles there is a need for parts, and PSA won't even ship triggers, buffer springs, charging handles, etc.
do yourself a favor and dont ever go gun shopping online after playing tarkov. you'll end up like me with a closet full of guns you'd never own otherwise. absolutely terrible problem to have.
@BJ I have been shooting for quite some time, I have shot a lot of the cool gamer guns, and I have narrowed down my platforms. I don't like purchasing outside of those platforms as I don't look at the price of the firearm alone anymore. If I want to rent something cool I am down, but I am probably sticking to AR and AK (when I leave CT), and then Glock for pistols outside of the P365 for CCW.
@@ketononeill8898 lol, by the time trex is done building his budget blkout it cost more than most peoples cars. lmao, i just built a mil spec car15 for 500 bucks and it shoots lights, now that's a budget build.
It was important to run it unsuppressed because most people are gonna run it while waiting for their suppressor tax stamp. So, there's no tax stamp and wait for the 7" SBR?
This is the video that took me to Griffin Armament. I used their rigid rail over a 12.3 556but I used their concussion device instead. It turned out awesome. Recently purchased a 10.5 PSA blackout upper and will replace it with a griffin armament rail/concussion device. After watching the issues with the suppresso you had, I think I am going to pass on suppressing it. I just love the look honestly and the intent is to have solid home/personal defense scenario builds. Glad you pointed out the round is capable without the suppressor. I think that it is a myth in the gun community. Like you said, my 556 will basically mirror my 300. The suppressor you used will be my likely choice as well assuming owning one will come with less headache one day. Thanks. I built something inspired by Trex. Cool.
Awesome video to watch, love these hard tests on more budget friendly guns. Especially by someone who has shot a whole LOT of different guns. Went for a Honey Badger esk build some time ago with PSA "saber ferret" lower lol. Mine has been pretty flawless but I havn't hit 2k with mine yet, so only time will tell.
It would probably cycle subs fine with a standard carbine buffer. Also, don't disparage YHM too much, a Resonator works fine with Blackout. You can get a direct thread mount if you don't like their QD. Their QD works great with an "SD" type handguard because you don't have to manipulate any lock. My setup has a Midwest handguard with enough ID for the Resonator to fit inside.
Built one almost identical about 10 years ago. Used an 8.5in, side charger upper, and midwest handguard that my suppressor fits under. Turned out awesome.
@@TREXARMS i see a lot of people at the range come up to other with cans and such and the first thing they ask is “do you have a stamp” like bruh mind your business
PSA actually had their ar pistol lowers with the pdw stock on sale for $300 a while back, and that included their upgraded nickel boron trigger assembly. So that’s something to keep an eye on for anyone wanting a pistol lower. (Literally the $300+ brace and a $200+ lower for only $300, a heck of a deal)
I have a few of those Lowers and one of those uppers. The FDE coating can be a little thick on Aero's lowers. One of them had trouble with the rear takedown pin hole being tight. Another had that same mag release issue. I just gently tapped the pin in and the extra coating was pushed through the other side, as for the mag release, it fixed itself after a few minutes of pressing the release button. Thank you for the great content!
Every time I watch Lucas do range work, I wish I was a young man again. The guy moves so fluidly, I'm always amazed. At his age I was in tip top shape and could move like a beast. Of course we didn't have all this cool stuff back then. LOL Thanks T-Rex Team
Hopefully more companies start investing in .300. I got into reloading to make it and I’m happy to make it at around 25-30cpr. Shoot them through my PSA upper and it works very well. Just make sure your lower has a buffer system that’s optimized for your bullet grainage
You can grind the M-Lok screws down to a minimum length for full thread engagement and no extra protrusion to contact the gas block. It's a free 5 minute fix. Very budget.
just an update for ya, " Braces " are no longer illegal !! edit- I am also a .300 guy, owning a complete custom build off a Bushmaster lower. I have been wanting to do an easy truck gun conversion an you nailed it for me !
I love how whenever there’s a malfunction or when there’s parts being changed the guy never does it himself the other guy does everything for him. It reminds me of a father fixing his sons toys for him 😂
So glad i randomly watched this video. I just finished a new setup and haven't shot it yet. It made me go check the M Lok screws by the gas block and sure enough, one was touching. Got it all fixed now. Thanks Lucas!
I went full aero 300blk with a honey Badger barrel and sps-300. Got a law tactical folder. Considering the law tactical bcg to be able to shoot folded, but waiting to see reliability with those before putting another $400 into it.
I bought a 7" from PSA in 300 AAC. The lower - I milled an 80% lower and then added the barrel. I installed an SB Tactical SBA3 AR Pistol Stabilizing Brace. This AR Pistol shoots flawlessly. I applied for an SRB back in October 2023 and am still waiting for results. Next month I plan to apply for a suppressor
32:14 you can actually make those mlok compartments usable, if you buy some round mlok nuts and file them down (the scews aswell) untill they are very slim... you will have to install them from the inside, but it should be possible. at least on my dads Hera 3.60SD30 it worked fine, and the space between the can and the handguard looks about as tight as on this one.
@@rdf4315 they were 3k but the price dropped to ab 2.8k However the Sugar Weasel also made by Q, is literally just the HB without the proprietary recoil system in a standard AR receiver. It also has a buffer tube instead of the HB stock which… is an amazing thing. I fuckin hate mine, the stock is the worst part of the HB. I own both, just buy the SW the standard AR parts are actually a benefit, tho the HB does have a different recoil system that is softer (and a bitch to put back together). The SW is down to $1800 now, they had some on sale for $1500 cuz the brace ban, it’s absolutely worth the $, you can put any AR upper on it, and Q also makes a 13” 5.56 upper for it (and .300 but why would you buy that lol) Either way both the HB and SW are a tad too short for me, 7” with a 6” handguard (that only has 2 M-Lok slots) is restrictive if you have long arms and hands like me, the MCX is a better overall battle rifle (9” barrel shoots hella flat from what I’ve seen but never used directly so), if you want an ultra compact gun get the Sugar Weasel for sure, if you can afford the Gucci then sure get a HB. The 1:5 fast twist barrel is definitely the superior option for .300, I’ve seen PSA putting out 1/8 barrels for .300 which.. have to be ballistically horrible. 1/7 isn’t even good enough, I think the MCX has a 1:6 which for 9” is prob equivalent to 7” 1:5 The twist rate is absolutely important for .300 and getting the proper lethality of it versus 5.56 .300 is a superior round for any civilian context no matter how much that will trigger people, it’s the most devastating round against soft targets I will say aesthetically the color is my fav of any firearm so… I mean the guns are fucking gold lol
Absolutely LOVE this!!! Just now found your channel!! Great content… I just want to say.. props to your cameraman!!! I mean, your turn a run to engage is fantastic! But your cameraman doesn’t miss a beat!!
Since i already have a 16" and 12" uppers, I tried this too. I couldn't find a 7 in 300blk 1:5 twist so I had to custom order one from Mos-tek. Cost me a pretty penny. Stuck it on an extra upper I had. Finished it off with Aero adjustable gas block, gas "toob" and BCM. Maybe I'll get a solvent trap to "clean it up." 😉 😉
When I bought a .300 blk upper, I got nothing but trash from my dad until he saw the reloading data, then it suddenly clicked why .300 blk is a viable cartridge: it's insanely easy to make your own if you already reload .308 you have the bullets. If you shoot .223 you have the brass. One cheap case trimming saw later and suddenly we were cranking out various weights and powers of .300 blk that shoot like a dream or hit hard enough to hunt with. If you reload at all, .300 blk is a game changer for AR-15s
This is sick im getting one now this video convinced me. I would love to see those transitions on those realistic ballistic dummy targets sick dude killed it and made gun look good

When he started naming all the issues with it I was like most of that could’ve been avoided I feel like if he got the 10.5 haha!
Fantastic video. Yes, diversification of the armory- 6"-8" bag gun in 300 AAC, 12.5"-16" Recce/GP carbine, then finally a DMR/SPR rig.💯
This is definitely one of the most well done, interesting weapon videos I’ve ever watched well pieced together
When you torque the barrel nut, put the crows foot at 90deg angle to the torque wrench. Otherwise you're increasing the leverage of the torque wrench and throwing off the reading. They're designed to be used with sockets, which pivot around the chuck instead of extending the lever.
Paint can opener is great for extracting stuck casings. Free and easy to keep in the bag
Love these vids. I have a 10.3 aero upper 300blk that I now have a very good idea what to build it out with. The rail and can from griffin holding up the way it did was impressive. Also well done PSA 2k rounds in 14 hours is impressive without major failures for something this inexpensive.
Hot take: every gun is a zero stamp gun if you're american enough.
You're not wrong
Would love to see an in depth video on PSA's newly released Jakl 5.56. Appears to have a decent amount of potential.
Muzzle awareness is on par my dude. Editing in this video is awesome. Everything about this video was just awesome. Cameraman is a G. Behind the scenes crews are G’s. Great stuff
Love these budget builds. I think it will help people that are just getting into the lifestyle to be less hesitant. Keep up the great work.
Such a sick video my dudes! Nearly an hour long??? What did we do to deserve this!! 45 minutes in and I've loved every second of it. One of my favorite builds is my little 8.5" PSA .300 blackout BLEM upper haha Good to see you having a blast with this budget boiiiii
Eye balling one of those right now. Are you able to shoot subs and supersonic out of it alright?
To help with the clearance issue on the bottom M-lock slot you can either sand, grind, or mill down the flat side of the nuts. The screws might also need shortened. The same can be done with the QD stud if you just needed it to be a tiny bit shorter. When done coat with aluminum black metal finish. Do at your own risk.
ill forever be a fan of this channel. the quality of these videos is always incredible and you never cut corners. You show true passion in what you do.
PSA is amazing
Tell me more about this "Money Badger", please. I've got it in my head to build one cause I already own and reload for 45-70.
Thoughts on Tromix? Did you go with a barrel only or did you opt for the barrel/bolt combo?
I got a PSA 7.5" 300blk with a PDW style "brace" for around $300 with a nickle Toolcraft bolt. I put an oversized Midwest Industries rail that my YHM N2O suppressor can fit inside. (Edit: wow I commented before the video got to describing the build.)
Full upper for 350? Not bad
bet it looks insane
ATF: *Furiously taking notes... And buying "dog treats"*
Amen
Gotta give credit where credit is due. What a well produced video overall. Presentation, editing, etc.
Just once I'd like to have a crew to make me look cool in a video like this. 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻would be a cool thing to have.
I will say i just built a Griffen Armament .300blk upper. That includes their barrel, rail, and Recce 7. About 300 ish rounds so far Sub/Super mix and it has ran fantastic, very very similar to the upper Lucas built! Super happy with it!!
You can grind down the screws to get something under the gas block. I've done it on one of my builds.
I tried doing that to my 12.5 but it still wasn't enough. That's what I get for buying an ultra slim S ONE upper.
Do I know you
@@johnmarkallen9621 Almost certainly not, but hey maybe?
Or just don’t buy aero lowers🤷🏼♂️ especially when you can buy a centurion for just a bit more and get something much better.
I know a preacher by your name. Thought it might have been him 😂
@@johnmarkallen9621 hey, well that's cool. I'm not a preacher tho, and I don't know any in my family
I'm loving these longer formed videos :)
He's like Nutnfancy length but more hip
I love the breakdown of the build process. You stated a goal for the build, different considerations for various parts, and discussion of price range.
"How to build [budget, mid-range, Gucci] [insert build type/goal] in [insert caliber]" would make an excellent recurring series on this channel.
I put a similar one together a couple years ago. Choose the upper with a different rail from PSA which eliminated a few of the issues referenced. I was attempting to fit it all in a bag for $1000. It worked out.
300 blackout is also a very easy round for new reloaders. You can use 556 brass and make it 300
I have to say Lucas I’m a little disappointed there was no quick rattle can paint job on this one.
Lol
What’s up man, I’m from the simple state of Alabama.
I'm from East Tennessee here.. and 100% agree. T.Rex-Arms is putting in the work for the 2A community!!

I had the same issue with the QD mount, but all you need to do is take a little off the back with a grinder and Voila problem solved. Glad to help!
Wow a whole Honey Badger for $1500? I really hope I can replicate this build to some extent I wouldn't mind a nice backpack gun like that :)
.80 a round is insane. PS- Please review a BCM soon or SOLGW like you did with the Aero. Would LOVE to see a 5000 round test.
That's only for subs, you can get supers for .50
Theyll actually work. There, saved you some time.
In Canada it's 1.xx$ for a .223/5.56
that's pretty standard as of now. even 5.56 if you buy match or defense rounds can easily go for the same or more.
It's dirt cheap if you make your own. That's one way this caliber shines.
No one here has watched a 55 minute video in 3 minutes
Speak for yourself my autism allows me to open 20 different tabs and watch 20 3 min segments all at once
*Turns playspeed to max* I can try damn it!
I see Trex, I hit thumbs up. Sinple

Oh I beg to differ my friend speed the video up by 2x and start 10-second button spamming every point that you don't want to listen to
How long do we think this’ll be up? Great content as always. Hope you make a backup channel on rumble
He said (on IG) that the backup vid will be on their website if this goes down.
Oh a matter of days.
They've also got a backup library on LBRY as well.
why accuracy test garbage ammo though?
Cool.
use paracord to attach the sling to the rail. each upper gets its own dedicated sling. saves space. looks cool. and strong AF
I was just about to start a “dirt weasel” build. Perfect timing 👍🏼
Thanks Lucas and the whole T-Rex family. Really enjoy that content.
lucas can you talk about normalizing “don’t ask don’t tell” when it comes to stamps
yes
@@TREXARMS i see a lot of people at the range come up to other with cans and such and the first thing they ask is “do you have a stamp” like bruh mind your business
@@Fadaar stolen? what
@@Fadaar I think you need to research guns more. No one is talking about "Stolen". The only theft is a 200 dollar extortion stamp.
{whistles and twiddles thumbs}
PSA actually had their ar pistol lowers with the pdw stock on sale for $300 a while back, and that included their upgraded nickel boron trigger assembly. So that’s something to keep an eye on for anyone wanting a pistol lower. (Literally the $300+ brace and a $200+ lower for only $300, a heck of a deal)
really? i never saw that deal! Damm
Its a good PDW cartridge. In fact, its basically the first dedicated PDW cartridge; something good out to 200 yards.
I've ground down the mlok screws before to put a very grip under the gas block. Works fine
I've done the same. Cut mine with a mini bandsaw
Same, HBAR gets in the way.
Hopefully more companies start investing in .300. I got into reloading to make it and I’m happy to make it at around 25-30cpr. Shoot them through my PSA upper and it works very well. Just make sure your lower has a buffer system that’s optimized for your bullet grainage
What kind of press do use?
@@tjn2254I don’t know if you’ve already got a press, but you can’t go wrong with the Rock Chucker Supreme.
It reminds me of a father fixing his sons toys for him 😂
Just picked up one of those 300 BLK PSA uppers and am quite surprised at the quality considering the very small price tag.
So glad i randomly watched this video. I just finished a new setup and haven't shot it yet. It made me go check the M Lok screws by the gas block and sure enough, one was touching. Got it all fixed now. Thanks Lucas!
Same! I filed down the screw since it was barely touching
Best trex video to date. I say this because Lucas seemed so much more dedicated to serious knowledge. It felt slower. In a great way
Great and informative video. Thanks for trying out what everyone was thinking and doing it well!
I went full aero 300blk with a honey Badger barrel and sps-300. Got a law tactical folder. Considering the law tactical bcg to be able to shoot folded, but waiting to see reliability with those before putting another $400 into it.
From reviews I have seen, LT BCG not so reliable
Great video! Love it when you guys do budget build tests.
"because, uh, repeal the NFA" Bro I live the balance of shooting montage, information, spec, and commentary on your content.
Amazing content. You're doing incredible things for the community even with the YT crackdown.
Love the content always but man I wasn’t ready for the way he said gunsmith after hitting the pin in with the acog 😂🤘🏽
I love Psa products I got one of their $600 blem ak gf3 and it runs as well as a zastava
As someone with a Zastava and a Psak Gf3, they both run very well!
@@sjoracer2934nice and I can’t even locate the blem
That’s awesome I picked this upper up a couple months ago for the same exact reason of building a budget Honey Badger. 🤙
I did that as well. Cut the screws and put a grinder to the nuts
0:42 THAT GAS TUBE
By the time I was done building it, my "budget" honey badger ended up costing more than the real thing 😅 I like it better tho!
How much does a honey badger usually run ?
@@rdf4315 they were 3k but the price dropped to ab 2.8k
However the Sugar Weasel also made by Q, is literally just the HB without the proprietary recoil system in a standard AR receiver.
The SW is down to $1800 now, they had some on sale for $1500 cuz the brace ban, it’s absolutely worth the $, you can put any AR upper on it, and Q also makes a 13” 5.56 upper for it (and .300 but why would you buy that lol)
Either way both the HB and SW are a tad too short for me, 7” with a 6” handguard (that only has 2 M-Lok slots) is restrictive if you have long arms and hands like me, the MCX is a better overall battle rifle (9” barrel shoots hella flat from what I’ve seen but never used directly so), if you want an ultra compact gun get the Sugar Weasel for sure, if you can afford the Gucci then sure get a HB. The 1:5 fast twist barrel is definitely the superior option for .300, I’ve seen PSA putting out 1/8 barrels for .300 which.. have to be ballistically horrible. 1/7 isn’t even good enough, I think the MCX has a 1:6 which for 9” is prob equivalent to 7” 1:5
The twist rate is absolutely important for .300 and getting the proper lethality of it versus 5.56
.300 is a superior round for any civilian context no matter how much that will trigger people, it’s the most devastating round against soft targets
I will say aesthetically the color is my fav of any firearm so… I mean the guns are fucking gold lol
@@Marksman5147 okay thanks

Does Lucas ever get his blood lead levels checked considering how much he shoots? Love you guys :D
Maybe I'll get a solvent trap to "clean it up." 😉 😉
I think solvent traps are kill since ATF form 1 stupidity
Please make more videos like this. Well done sir.
