.....Who is the maker/luthier? How old is the Oud..When was it last serviced...check neck, bowl, pegbox for damage....check the pegs for smooth tunning...try it out before buying.....
@@arisdelis1 how do I check how it plays if I don't know how to play? am I just looking out for the factThat it sounds decent? thank you for the response.
You need to check the height of the action (how high the strings are from the fingerboard) at the place where the fingerboard and bowl of the Oud meet. The action should not be higher than 3 mm. This is very important. Anywhere between 2 & 2.5 mm is ideal, but 2.5 mm and up may make the Oud difficult to play and learn. Make sure the workmanship is cleanly done. Ask what tuning should be used with the strings on it. However, you can always change the strings to use your preferred tuning.
Hello, Navid! Could you please tell us - if you are already know classical scales and folk scales - is it really so important to switch your mind to makams? May be you have some interesting arguments for that? Except quarter-tones - usual scales includes all makams. Could you please show your opinion?
Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by classical scales and folk scales. Can you explain? Do you mean western classical and folk or middle Eastern classical and folk?
Hey Navid, thanks for another very useful video! Do you have any suggestions for pickups to use on acoustic ouds? I've seen a few people using surface pickups that stick onto the soundboard which would be ideal, I'd like to avoid doing any modifications. What's your experience with them? Thanks.
Hi James, good question. Those pickups are fine, they do the job. But for picky old school farts like me I just want a nice microphone. I hate the sound of contact microphones and bridge saddle pickups.
@@OudforGuitarists Thanks Navid, I completely understand, I'm worried about getting that quacky plasticky piezo sound. So say you were busking or had to provide your own equipment for a gig, you'd bring a microphone along?
hello i am interested in buying a oud from the oud guitars website. i want to ask how long does the delivery usually take to deliver to Europe and what if i am not satisfied with the quality of the instrument is returning the product for a refund an option ? thank you for your videos i frequently enjoy them ❤
Shipping time is between 2 to 4 weeks. Returns are usually okay if you are not satisfied, but the shipping cost is your burden and the oud must be returned in good condition.
Beautiful!
Thank you!

Your playing is always such a delight, Navid! Pretty sure I saw all the ouds just behind you groovin' to the beat, too😄
Thank you Carol!
I am going to purchase a used oud from someone ( I have a few options), what/how should I inspect it? Ive never had one

@@JamesNoble97 yes, I've been taking a mic and mic stand to all my gigs.
@@JamesNoble97 I've occasionally used a preamp along side, or my own acoustic amp.

Very nice... can you tell us the origin of this melody ? Is it yours, or from ... ? Thank you !
This is by the Egyptian composer Mohamed Abdul Wahab.
