- Yep Im making Mochi again. This time I'm going to show you how to make Mochi using a steamer! The first how to make mochi video I did I showed you how to make mochi in a microwave. I got a lot of comments from people that wanted to see how to make mochi on a stove top so here it is! I love mochi ice cream and make it a lot at home using Mochiko sweet rice flour. This is the key ingredient to making Mochi in the microwave or steamer. If you need Mochiko rice flour make sure to visit my amazon store link below.

Hey #saucesquad do me a favor and click that SHARE button!! Are YOU going to make steamed Mochi????
Yes
sorry but you just copy other videos
If I double the recipe, would it have to steam for 40 minutes in stead of 20?
2:10 at this point it is just 1 cup glutinous rice flour and 3/4 cup water? It turns out more like custard consistency at this point. Seems like way too much water. How did you get a dough ball?
@@bellalaskowski9564 I just made it skipping the step for steaming. Just put the water sugar and glutinous rice flour in the saucepan and mix thoroughly, then after it's mixed put on medium heat and keep mixing till it's shinny. Less stuff to wash this way and saves time as no need to steam.
Really glad you made this version bc I don't own a microwave, but I do own a steamer :)
I thought about it hahah I didn't own a microwave for YEEEEAAAARS hahahah I'm glad it helped haha!
I don't have microwave too
same
same!
Where do you live lol?
I’ve accidentally used the recipe for the microwave one and put all those ingredients together in the streamer for this one and it ended up delicious. So if you guys want to use a steamer and have less sugar in your mochi just use the recipe from his microwave mochi video and pop that into the steamer. Except steam it for 25 minutes and every 7 minutes you have to mix it. Then you good to go😋 Also the reason you have to cook it for 25 minutes is because I didn’t preheat the pot so just don’t preheat the pot k?
Perfect. I don't own a microwave and really want to start making these! Thanks !
I find it a little odd that you don’t have more subs considering how good your content is and how well it’s produced
Thank you so much!!! Need to get those shares out :)
It's just a matter of time dude
He doesn't have drama, yt people usually create drama or sell their souls to illuminati.
Aight, imma go add a sub for this guy. This video was really helpful, thanks a ton :D
Same! U made me sub😂
Yasss probably gonna try this,if my mom agrees im just 10 yrs 😂
I don't have microwave in my house, so thank you for this recipe! And your explanation is good and passionate.
Have a nice day!
I love mochi, it's the best dessert I have ever eaten, my favorite is the green tea ice cream mochi
This is the way I have been looking for to make mochi! Thank you!
Thank you!!!
Thank you for the thorough explanation. I just made daifuku mochi and it came out great. I don't own a microwave and would much rather use a stovetop method. Thumbs up! :)
I love your videos, thanks!
my microwave is old and inconsistent so I'll be trying the stream method. Thank you for the recipe.
Wow thank you. Finally a mochi without the microwave
My mom and i are gonna try this tomorrow :)
My FAVORITE Mochi recipe is the butter mochi! 😋 Love how you displayed your shirt! 😂 Will go check out your merchandise now! 👍
Thank you Terri!! The butter mochi is SOOO good!
The video that I waited Thank you 😊
Thank you!
HALLAA NA NOTICE AHHAHAHA
You Sir are doing the youtube grind! Keep it up I know its got to be hard.
Thank you so much!!
Hey, this video was really helpfull. Wherever i searched, there were only mochi making in microwave and i don't have one. I'm gonna put anko paste and some fruits in mine and maybe instead corn starch I'll have to use cocoa. ^^"
Yesss! I’ve been looking for the steamed version and I’ve found U !🤗 thanx much for sharing ur easy recipe... wanna make some for my family tonite, but for starters, mayb will try healthier basic/plain mochi first. I’d use brown sugar instead of white......making brownchii, mayb? Greetingz from 🇮🇩 Indonesia🙋🏻♀️👍
I love you soooo much!!!! Yassss thank you!
You're so welcome!! :P
The way he laugh make my day😊
thank you! Oh, by the way, I just used the rice flour that's in the cupboard and it worked fine.
Very nice!! Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks for the recipe! Really needed protip because I don't have a microwave at home 😅
Thanks for watching
Great video once again, my friend!
Thank you!! I love MOCHI! hahaha
@@SauceStache I've never had it maybe I'll give it a try. Lol
Thank you Sauce Stache for the easy to follow recipe! I was really curious to see how sweet it would turn out, and I found the level of sweetness to be just right. I do have a question. Are you sure it's 1 cup of sweet rice flour and 3/4 cup of water? When I mixed these two together the mixture came out more like a paste instead of a firmer dough ball like what I saw in the video. Did anyone else run into this? Does it make a difference? Any feedback is welcome. I will definitely be trying this recipe again!
This was fun to make although the pans are hard to clean
I used Anthony's brand sweet rice flour and ended up using 1.5 cups of flour to get the consistency I saw in the video.
The dough turned out great although a little stiff so next time I think I'll use 1.25 cups of flour.
Thanks : )
Hello! Thanks for the explanation. Have you ever tried to ferment the dough before to make the mochis ?
im going to make it today hihi thank you for this video, i will try to make it a sideline here in philippines in our province hehe. i’m a student just want to have my own moneeey. this would help 🥰💛
I like to make my mochi in a saucepan. I got my original recipe from the NYT but I also found one that uses juice as the liquid and sweetener (1:1 ratio) also.
I plan on using coconut milk with orange juice instead of water.
Would you know how to make a Kiri mochi rice cake? It's a savory Japanese mochi that is used in soup or baked and seasoned
Hey, have you considered making a video of making mixing from sweet rice instead of flour? Yiu can use a stand mixer.
I tried making mochi two times already and completely failed. Thanks to your video I finally found out that I've been using the wrong rice flour all this time. 😅
Thank you
Thank you! I'm going to be making a version from scratch using rice coming soon!
thinking of selling mochi at our farmers market. do i have to keep it refrigerated?
I messed up because I couldn't find a better recipe but I am thinking about making it again. This time, like this.
Do you have to put sugar in it? Like if you are making a savory kind can you leave it out so it isn't sweet?
I want to bake Mochi squares and make Mochi waffles. I can then use it as a pizza crust, put on refried beans, lettuce, tomato, olives.. or tuna in sauce, egg salad, peanut butter and jam.. Hundreds of gluten free ideas and I don't want sugar in it! Can I leave out the sugar? Do I have to cook it more in the pan a little too without the sugar? THANKS so much! I have tried many versions from the rice and the Kitchen Aid mixer the grinding the rice and water and steaming and on and on. You can buy the brown rice squares to bake in waffle iron and they are outrageously Expensive. I am using Sweet Brown Rice Flour which Eden sells as Mochi Squares to Bake. THANKS SO MUCH for an tips. Takes FOREVER to clean up after this stuff! I use a Ringer from Amazon looks like the armor knights wore hundreds of years ago! Cleans the mochi when you scrub back into watery mix with water and does not get stuck in it! smile.amazon.com/s?k=ringer+cast+iron+skillet+cleaner&i=garden&crid=1E4M8672HTCQU&sprefix=Ringer%2Caps%2C263&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-a-p_1_6
can i put something like strawberry in it or does ist has to be ice cream? and can I just eat it then without freezing?
Thank you for this! Glad I found it. At what point can you add flavour (cocoa or matcha power) to the dough?
I would recommend adding it before the steaming so the flavour and colour will be absorbed
Mine came out cooked on the outside raw on the inside after steaming! Then in the pot it completely separated! Had to mix for a good 20 mins to save it. Managed to get it to stick together even though it's lumpy. Also that is way too much sugar, so sweet!
Same, mine just clumped up after separating but it was lumpy.
I thought this guy was Michael from VSauce because of the Sauce and expected him to say, "Sauce Stache, Michael here".
Can you make it in a rice cooker or pressure cooker?
Hi! I'M new to your channel and have subscribed it already because I love the way you talk and give some extra information which is needed.A big thumbs up for that.I have seen both your videos on mochi.I have a question,I will make mochi for the first time and also have never tried mochi before.I want to make mochi textured very chewy.Which recipe should I follow and what makes mochi more gumier and bouncy like structure. Please guide me.Waiting for your reply.
Love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
Hi thank you so much for subscribing! I recommend the microwave method for your first time! It is a little easier and it does come out gumier!
@@SauceStache Got it.Thank you very much ❤️
Thanks for sharing man!! How come you didn’t add the sugar when steaming the mochi instead of doing it in the pot?
So I'm sure it would still work if everything was added together, But steaming the mochi flour and water first creates a starter dough and gives something for the sugar to bind to easier.
Sauce Stache got you. Thank you!
Thanks sir for the recipe
I'm just a child that want to be a chef
You know that delicious green tea ice cream you get from Japanese restaurants? Can you figure out a recipe for how to make that? I've tried the Haagen Dazs green tea ice cream, but it's just not that great.
I'll take a look into that!! IT is good and Im sure we can figure out the recipe :P
can u use flour instead of corn starch
You are the Michelangelo of mochi
Can glutinous rice flour use as a substitute to sweet rice flour?
yes
Is it possible to make it with normal rice flour if at some point I kneed Fluten into the mochi
Grandmaster not possible
Yeah I made it last night didn’t work at all but I found glutinous rice flour so I’m trying again
Dear. Sauce Stache:
Is there a way to make the mochi chewier and thicker.
Sincerely
Viewer
Ps. Much love for your hard wark
YES!! You can make it a little chewier by either using slightly less water and steaming long or by adding a small amount of regular rice flour to the sweet rice flour!
Dear Sauce Stache:
I realize it is totally worth adding the extra sweet rice powder and steaming the mochi. The only thing I have trouble is getting it to shape as a ball instead of a square. any more ideas?
I like how this guy talk
4 in the morning. Your microwaved mochi pretty much has the same chemistry happening with the traditionals cmiiw. What do u think? (pounded one i mean)
I was actually thinking about doing the pounded version one day!!
Sauce Stache i'll wait for it.
yay finalyumily
Does glutinous rice flour work?!
Yes!! Thats exactly what you need!
Sauce Stache oh ok! Thank you! :D
can i use tapioca starch instead of cornstarch?
yes
I dont have white sugar i only have washed sugar can we do washed?
I haven't tested it personally, but my guess is it will work! Let me know if you try it
is a steamer just a pot filled with water on simmer????
I think I will use this recepie but without the Ice cream, I think it doesn´t match with the original concept of the mochi and I like more use sweet bean or seasame past, or even peanut cream
could you make it by just using a water bath ?
Underrated 😑
Thank you!
You should add t-shirt sizes for youth! My daughter is a big fan of yours and would love a shirt in her size!
oh will do!!! Tell her I said hi... and thank you again for becoming a Patron! You are both awesome!
Can I use regular rice flour instead of sweet rice flour?
:/ No it needs to be sweet rice flour. They are very different
@@SauceStache oh, thank you for the information!
for this video, how many mochi(s) you managed to get?
I tried it once, with my Thai mochiko flour, I did half of the recipe, but somehow when I started to add sugar it didn’t mix into one shiny texture like yours, but it was lumpy :(
How much in grams and/or ml?
hello there, i had make mochi but then it fail... is it i use the rice flour not sweet rice flour, that why its not be the mochi? hahaha
Yes, rice flour and sweet rice flour are very different. Regular rice flour will not work to make mochi!
I love you and your show but only psychos bite ice cream. 😂 j/k but thanks for sharing! Going to try this.
2:10 at this point it is just 1 cup glutinous rice flour and 3/4 cup water? It turns out more like custard consistency at this point. Seems like way too much water. How did you get a dough ball?
Ok i compared with your other video (microwave version) that uses 1 cup glutinous rice flour, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 cup of water and when mixed it has this same custard consistency. Don't know how you got the dough ball in this video. Simply doesn't work.
Nevermind, i solved the issue. Just skip the step for steaming. Put the water, sugar and glutinous rice flour in the saucepan and mix thoroughly, then after it's mixed put on medium heat and keep mixing till it's shinny and stiffens up to hold shape. Less stuff to wash this way and saves time as no need to steam. And 1 cup of sugar is too sweet for me, 1/4 cup will do.
did it come out like proper mochi?
@@konohart4622 Yes. I made it twice with my method. My method is much quicker too, try it. It's very sticky so use corn starch or corn flour if you're in UK to dust your work surface and hands. I think it took 15 mins or less, but I didn't time it. Honestly, the steaming seems pointless since you are going to cook in saucepan anyway, and the streaming cooks unevenly if you make it into a doughball like this video suggests. If you have any questions let me know.
@@konohart4622 The redbean paste is even easier to make
Plz make mochi in a pressure cooker please
what if I don't add sugar?
It won't be sweet... but it shouldn't change much of the recipe. You'll just have a plain rice cake
I came here to say traditionally speaking mochi is normally made with steamer or pan so yeah
What is the recipe of your mochi i didnt understand
You can find it on SauceStache.com
2:21
I assume i got bamboozeled at the store. They gave me sweet rice flour (all name stuff on the pack is just symbols, cant read it) and it acts nothing like in the mochi recipes. It just bakes in a hard dry piece :'(
I use Bob's Red Mill Sweet White Rice Flour in place of Mochiko. If you get the regular rice flour it won't stick the same way.
Why can’t you combine sugar with water before you steam the rice?
mann... cleaning was a diaster
HAHAH It always is
Khoroshiy
Thank you, as a poor Asian, Oven or microwave or blender is a delicacy. Not everyone have it here.
It's much healthier without the microwave anyway : )
I swear I thought this was Vsauce
Tried this twice. Didn't work for me either time even though I followed the steps. The dough turned into a sugary, clumpy mess in the end. It wasn't stretchy so you couldn't form anything with it. It would tear with the slightest pull.
Sounds like you were not using sweet rice flour?
@@SauceStachethanks for the response! Went to my local Japanese store and bought mochiko...
@@PhilipWing I had the same issue! i think we both overcooked the mochi... 🤷🏼♀️
1 cup of sugar meaning 250g of sugar?
my original mochi mixture before mixing was liquid :(
My favourite mochi= jimin
I'm making steamed mochi because I don't have a mircowave at home. XD
What if i hav to make like 20 mochis?
I really need it for our project
Team steamed💯
I tried this and the part when I want to mix the sugar, it cooked the fucking mochi. It now turned into a freaking fried dough. I put it on low heat. Not even on medium. Lord.
WAYYYYYY to high of heat then... I dont know what to tell you. Sounds like you added the mochi dough into a pre heated sauce pan and the pan was too hot.. like no way it would have cooked the mochi if you were stiring in the sugar while it was heating
It came out horrible, too sweet, clumpy... a huge mess. Not sure if this recipe worked for someone, but for me (even following the steps) didn’t work at all.
Same mine just clumped up with lumps
1st
I was going to say second but someone beat me to the second comment ;)
He kinda sounds like namjoon…
Or that's why mines is grainy
Dont try this it doesn't work i try it 2 times
Rainer Chen it absolutely works. You are simply doing something wrong. If you would have messaged me I would have helped
Rainer Chen you probably don’t have the right rice
