How to use the Rodecaster Pro 2 for streaming with OBS - Windows, Discord settings and more

- This is a tips guide on how to setup the Rodecaster Pro 2 for streaming to Twitch and UA-cam.
Here I'm showing you how to setup the Shure SM7B and the best settings to use with OBS or Streamlabs as well as Discord and how to route all that audio into one output source so you can control all the volumes and create a great sound for your stream.

Yo for some reason when i go into discord to change the input and the output, it doesnt show usb 2 for me. Im only able to select "Microphone (RODECaster Pro II Chat) I dont see the Microphone (2-Rodecaster Pro II Chat). Any idea how to fix this ?
That's from having both usb connections in place. You should be fine with the first option.
Would still be cool to hear a direct and fair comparison between this and the goxlr if possible but I am enjoying the rodecaster content. It looks like a cool and fun piece of gear.

hi there! great video thanks for the upload! I do have one specific question. I have the RCP version one and its always been an issue not having the connective flexibility via USB to allow you to assign for example amazon music to an available channel and assign it in OBS to track 2 (to exclude audio from VODS) and have control over it and also not to be in the main mix. is this something the RCP2 can do now? also will it be post fader if it can do this ? i also have the GOXLR and when you connect it to the pc via USB you have tons of available choices BUT in OBS they are pre fader so you cant control the music level independently only in the " Broadcast Stream Mix channel "( which would be similar to RCP main stereo mix out). Thanks again! .

Hey Provoked Prawn thanks for the vid, and I found your "Microphone Pro II secondary" on the RCP2 setting, just what I had to select/adjust to get a WebVt for PlayoutOne radio station software, where you can hear an "out going recording playback" then record your vocals ie. that was blah blah, start next song/station jingle etc. to get the right pace! I was having trouble in Monzila,because the audio of out going & incoming songs was also being recorded.Been trying to sort it out for a while. Cheers 🙂

Hey :) thanks for the video! We wanted to use it in the stream with speakers, but just can't get rid of the feedback from the mics. (Rode mics) Also, you can hear our voice in the speakers, which we don't want. Do you have a suggestion for a solution? Is there a setting that we are overlooking? We had a Behringer mixer before, there were no problems. Thank you and best regards
I am having my sound options change automatically and UNCONTROLLABLY where I can't get it to stay on roadcaster pro 2 for my main (on computer- listening just to UA-cam or any sound coming out of computer) trouble shoot won't work.. and it just keeps switch between sound settings on Windows automatically, uncontrollably. Anyone have that? Or anyone able to help?! :(
Go to more sound settings and disable the other things you don't want. E.g. you monitor speakers or whatever.
@theprovokedprawn Can you record separate audio tracks in OBS (like you showed with having an output without the music for example) or do we need a program like Audacity and then mix the audio in later if we wanted to make a clip?
TY for the video! I miss the Sampler function of the GoXLR, if only Rode had been able to take that function of pressing the actual button to record and immediately being able to play it back, you could record much more spontaneous "soundboard" sounds than is possible now. Is this possible with the Streamdeck + RCP2?

Hey there! I have one question. If you put Input/Output on Discord to "Pro II Chat" does it still apply the presets I've choosen for instance Shure SM7b? In the options for ingame-chat on the Rodecaster Pro 2 you can't choose a mic preset. You can only activate processing noise gate etc.
Now let's see an ideal "setting" configuration for dual pc setup. :)

Hi! Great vid! I'm more then likely way too late to be asking this question but I need to know if you plug a USB type c to hdmi plugged into a TV can I get the audio from the TV out on the main mix through USB 2? I'm trying to find a work around for the lack of an optical port which is what I use currently with a goxlr mini.

Great video! The only thing im struggling with is once all of my main stereo audio is added to OBS, my sliders do not adjust volume within OBS (Example: Music is playing and is active in OBS. I move music slider down on RCP2 and it lowers in my headset but not in OBS.) Any fixes?
Thanks for the formiddable tutorial, It's a true lifesaver. I can in fact use my product exactly how I wanted it. I did have the prior issue of not knowing what to do about listening to my own voice, but I figured it out now.
BUT, I ran into a last issue that I would like your expertise on.
My vision is to be able to connect my phone to the device, and use the phone as a way for me to play my music on stream.
So far I got my phone connected via Bluetooth to the caster device, and thankfully it plays like a dream, I hear the sound and see the signal on the caster device.
However it doesn't appear I can get said signal routed to OBS, my Windows sound settings can detect the input, but it just doesn't seem to carry over to the OBS software.
This is beautiful Tutorial.... Could you help me bring my sound into Restream... I followed the instructions but Restream doesn't recognize the sound
Absolutely fantastic video, Ive got everything running and routed smoothly thanks to this guide with my rcp2. My one issue Im seeming to have is muting my mic so that stream chat can still hear me but my in game chat or discord chat cant? When I press the red mute on my mic thats set to the first fader like in this video, it mutes to both discord and in game but it also mutes to OBS/stream chat. when I mute with the red button on fader 2 which is usb chat it mutes their voices to stream but not my mic to them. Is there a way to control mic mute to ingame and discord mics without having to also mute the mice to obs/stream? Cheers!
I don't think there's a way to do that yet. I personally use push to talk for discord and open mic for steam. Maybe an update will come that'll help though.
With USB multitrack set to Off the USB 1 Main Output is just static white noise. But when you switch it to pre or post fader it allows audio from the computer to be heard. I'm wondering if maybe a firmware update changed things since this video?
So if we do not want everything to come in on one mix, we would do custom or mix minus for every track and add them separately into OBS? Meaning, I want my music to be a separate track, alerts, game, etc. I think I am a bit confused with this set up as my current GOXLR has every single thing routed separately.

My pc won’t pick up usb 1. I saw a lot of people having an issue with this. Tried rebooting firmware, removing drivers and re adding them, do you have any suggestions for how to fix this?
Using this with a 2 PC set up, does the Caster Pro 2 get plugged into the gaming PC or the PC with OBS ( streaming PC)??
i Just got this today and have all the settings. I have an Xbox Series X into it as input 2. And it works great using an HDMI extractor. Now i have an use with USB chat. The Xbox windows app (party chat) it set to USB Chat 1. And while I can hear them through through the preview, it like statics when they get loud. I can quite figure out why.
is that the same for ps5? If so can put a link for that or the stuff you’re using to get the system to work.
Love how the video is about streaming with OBS, but the app being used is very clearly Streamlabs.

I just set up my Rodecaster Pro 2 with my SM7B. With the fader at Unity (thick bar half way up) also with 58db of gain on the rodecaster and 100% volume for the mic in windows audio settings it is really distorted and too loud. The audio levels that show on the screen on the device are completely different from what obs/audacity is showing. I did see that you have yours set to 70% in the Mic settings in windows. That’s the only problem I’m currently having with this. Is 70% mic volume the correct setting? That’s the only confusing part for me as I thought the rodecaster controlled the mic volume and not windows?
@@Velocity3 I Really appreciate this comment, no one has ever mentioned it. I did some googling, found out you can right click on the slider within the microphone volume settings in windows and it gives you the option for % or dB. You're correct on the 54% gain is 0dB of gain which is what I've really been looking for. I really thought something was either wrong with the microphone or rodecaster pro 2 as the audio seemed off running it around 80% gain within windows. I'll give it another go with being at 54% gain hopefully no more issues.
I need some help main won't pick up my mic on obs but chat will. Is there any fix for this?
What headphones do you use
when on streamlabs i get a reverb on my headphones when i hear myself when i add a collab cam audio and it comes in thru my input 1 ....it sounds fine on their side but i hear alot of reverb in my own voice ....but when i mute the input channel the collab cam audio is coming in on the reverb in my headphones from my own voice is gone......how do i stop that?
For some reason my Rodecaster pro 2(RCP 2) doesn't have audio from USB 1 when it's connected to my windows computer. I can't hear anything in my headphones and my microphone isn't registering as an option in my sound control panel settings. However, when my RCP 2 USB 2 port is connected to my computer, my computer picks up the microphone I'm using and I can hear sound in my headphones as well. I was wondering why USB 1 isn't connecting to my computer.

I want to swith to this Rodecaster Pro 2 from my GOXLR, and question here, the way I use my goxlr is to capture my discord on separate channel in obs so my Mic , game audio and discord is on 3 separate audio tracks when in postproduction for better sound control. For example when game audio is too low or too loud or my mate cagh I can take care of these things individually in post, therefore my question is is this Procaster cable ofspliting that 3 different audio just like gxlr can? I am waiting on this as well. Hopefully this comes soon with the ability to customer route applications to specific virtual faders.

Question. As it allows you to “pick” whatever mic you have in the settings to tweak from there, but wat happens if you don’t have any of those mics? Just for reference I have the Electro-Voice RE320
you can just choose dynamic or condenser mic and then tweak the settings yourself.

How to do make usb be able to turn down via obs mine stay at same volume how much I move the fader up and down
while streaming, chat likes to hear music while i game. i dont care too much for music while gaming. My goxlr gave me that option and i loved it. Can i do something like that with this?? music muted for me, but the music on stream for them.
You could by using a second USB connection I think - or more easily by pulling in Bluetooth connection from your phone, having that on a fader, but muting the sound to yourself (by pressing the green listen button so you can't hear it) that way the stream would hear it, but not you.

I couldn't for the life of me get the faders to affect the output level on OBS. Tried all the settings and researched the best I could. I ended up returning it :( Gonna try the Rolland bridge caster.
Also no one by a GO XLR unless its on a massive sale. the product is DOA
I wish you guys would add a function to allow one of the smartpads to complete switch the faders function, as in... normally they adjust the sound that you hear, but then pressing a smartpad, it switches so the faders control what the stream hears (this should obviously show clearly on both the faders colors & on the touch screen).
Just like you can with Wave link & Beacn mix Create.

If you're using the setup like I did but are running the latest firmware, then you'll need to go to the routing and change USB 2 to either mix minus or custom and take the USB one out of it. They've changed things now and it messed up my audio too. Mix minus should take out the feedback you're hearing from YT on the recording.
Using one mix into obs isn't ideal. Sometimes your only latency is a webcam. Fixing just my mic delay in obs is WAY easier but need the separate outs.
Did all this, and its all working. But when recording. Streamlabs nor the record button in streamlabs seems to record the sound. I can see that the sound is working both in SL and on the rodecaster. And is it true that one should hear yourself all the time?
Are you talking about when you apply voice effects? If so, I have the same problem. I can hear effects like applause, trombone, horn…pretty much any effects in the default first page but any thing on default page 2, I cannot. I do hear it in the recorded audio and theoretically on stream, but not in real-time.
@@JoeVargas84 I returned the thing to the store. It was to mutch of a hassel. Hearing your self dubble, not being able to turn down music in live stream (had to do that in windows). For me it wasnt worth the 800 dollars..
Can't I seem to get the Microphone (22-Rodecaster Pro II Chat) option to display only the regular and the (secondary) options any reason for this? I have followed every step exactly so far. Any help would be appreciated.
You need two usb connections

You can't mix them virtually yet if that's what you mean but it's coming in a firmware update apparently
Why oh whyyyyyyyyy didn't rode give us a few more audio outputs such as a 'music', 'game' or other channels like GOXLR. I would love to have a slider to control music, game, and system sound all independently. Also lets you record the audio separately as well....
They did say this is coming in a firmware update but it hasn't yet
This is something that I need too. It’s why I’ve been holding off on buying it because they are so limited
If you want to seperate your audio outputs use a virtual program such as Voicemeter Potato thats what I use it allows me to seperate my game, discord, music, system sounds into seperate audio outputs, but you also need their vb audio cables. I then route my rodecaster duo mic input into voicemeter and output it using their mic output my setup is a bit of a frankinstein setup but it works wonders for me.

If you leave USB 1 as Main Mix instead of Mix Minus, and set the microphone to "Microphone Rodecaster Pro II Main Stereo" All PC audio is also fed out of of the chat mic causing a feedback loop. The only way I can use Microphone Main Stereo instead of Microphone Chat is to set USB 1 as Mix Minus
Wouldn't you rather split everything up into their own channels? Like what if you don't want to have your desktop sounds coming across your steam?

I have everything separate on my GOXLR but sadly its no longer working as they aren't updating software and drivers anymore. Hoping to switch to Rødecaster DUO If I can replicate my same settings. Just not savvy to really know how to do it across the board.

I just saw a reddit article explaining how to split tracks. I googled Rodecaster Split Audio Tracks for Streaming or something. I can't remember.
Looks like the latest firmware for this is still 1.0.7 from July 20, 2022. 4 Months out of date already when Rode promised to updated it frequently and substantially. I still see no extra virtual output devices for doing a Twitch VOD track or microphone with sound effects. Elgato is unfortunately still the leader in streaming software, even though everyone can clearly see what Elgato is doing.
Hugely disappointed that they dont communicate any further updates regarding the RodeCaster Pro 2

my motherboard has only 1 usb c will that be a problem like with routhing and stuff ?
I believe you'd be fine with a USB-A to USB-C cable to be honest. Especially if you're using a USB 3 port.

It has different uses. You can use it with more than one PC or device or, as I showed, you can use it to do different things with Mix Minus so you can ignore or add in different audio sources via the routing.
@@TheProvokedPrawn I have the goxlr and can’t wait for this upgrade tomorrow my rodecaster pro 2 will arrive can’t wait 3 reasons why I am switching is stronger queter preamps , 6 faders and 3 digital ones and rode actualy Listens to there community with goxlr in the other hand it’s like since the main people left no one is giving actual effort anymore to there programs and firmware where rode actually does I used to use 6 years ago the rode nt-usb and it was awesome but since a few years I switched to the shure sm7b love it but the podmic looks cute and awesome 1 thing I kinda would love to see on the rode central able to use stuff like AI voices like on voicemod that would be so cool

Does anybody know how to get the echoing to stop? I try everything, I don't echo the people in my party echoes everytime they talk. Reaching out to customers support suck. I can't seem to ever get in touch with anybody
a bit late but you might have the audio effect (echo) turned on in the settings for that particular audio cable make sure you have it unselected
5:47 hopefully you figured this out by now. Most likely the mix minus or custom sub mix needs to be fixed on the chat channel.
@6thofAugust I got it fix, I was finally able to get a hold of customer support, they help trouble shoot. In the end, I had to factory reset.
i can hear myself in my microfon channel how do i mute myself so i dont hear myself when i talk to my friends ?
Press the listen button on the mic channel (the green one below the fader). That'll mute the mic monitoring but you'll still be heard.
@@TheProvokedPrawn if I press the green listen bottom it mutes the other people and I can still hear my voice and btw my usb 1 dosnt get detected by my usb 3.2 gen 2 C connection but the usb 2 does get recognized as secondary if I use tho a usb a to usb c cable and plug it in it gets recognized but as Usb audio 2.0 instead of main
It sounds like you're pressing the button on the USB chat channel instead of your mic? Assuming you set the Windows sound settings the same way I did of course.

I’m confused why wouldn’t you just use the main chat mix for voice overs instead you have it set up literally the same way as usb2 no need for the extra cabling for no reason.

Seems GoXLR is still the way to go for now.
Does the GoXLR has submixes? The big befenift of th RPC2 is using dual pc setup, it is sitting in the middle and you can use it with both or only gaming or only streaming pc.
@@DieTabbi submixes shmuckmixes. It's still the easier better streaming hardware. It's designed around streaming this isn't. The rcp2 can't compete at least not yet. Goxlr does dual pc setup also anyways
