Boy that ol' girl looks tired! My Father ran one of the very first 988's back when they were new. They were loading unbroken sandstone with V-nosed buckets out of a virgin bank. Get a bite, curl and wiggle the steering wheel with the rear tires in the air. My employer still has one of these at their main shop as a yard loader. They use it to move dead equipment around mostly. The weld shop built a 15+ yd snow bucket for it. Back when I worked there I did a lot of plowing with it, what a big heavy pig, but lots of fun!
we still run a 988A, not everyday but it gets used alot. No engine will ever sound like those 1693's. they sound like they are falling apart all the time.
awesome piece of equipment. a loggin company i worked for in BC still has 2 of these !! big difference to modern loaders haha. i work for SMS in Edmonton. im thinking of going down to check this stuff out ! was it easy to find ?
C'mon... Are you boys gonna get off Holiday and start putting up some real dirt hogging videos up? If it's that slow above the border, I could use "use guys" down here in the Carolinas and go rain un "letsdig18" shit farm.
Check the air filters at 3.49!! Old mate needs to shift to 1st gear, you can see it is just not getting a lot of drive to the wheels when digging
Man do I love these old CAT's!!!! As a kid we would watch them till the sun went down.

I kinda thought it was a 1693 just from the sound of the engine, they are pre-cup engines it gives them that distinctive sound.
If you want noise and smoke, this is your man. For shifting dirt, well.....! Love it though.
That ol girl is about worn as our 943, good to see it still running and not in a scrap pile.
Great video!
Nice to see the good ol' 988A working. Sounds like the engine needs to be overhauled. Awesome video . :-)
Amigo . Cuantos caballos de fuerza trae ese motor de esa 988
That motor sounds sick.
Nice complete cab, shame the doors are slamming all over the place like that.
What's the other thing parked next to the van looks big and heavy
I think she needs an overhaul. Missing like crazy. Won't even spin the wheels to get a bucket full.
Are the Historical Machines exempt from the Government Tax for not being Tier 4 ?
I loved it
And the back up beeper still works....how 'bout that huh?

Go south on QE2, right at the first Nisku interchange and make it left on highway 60!
It sure seems weak ,doesn’t have a lot of pushing power.
Needs a real operator and a new air cleaner element(s).
why are they running it with out the air filters?
Old Cat loaders never die
dala fuego
Give her the onion!
D343 not 1693 unless it has been repowered.
Gavin84w 343 is the same as a 1693
Cuantos caballos de fuerza tienen estos motores?
That thing is only at scrap value
It needs air filters and a new injector pump
tires should last forever that way.....
rollin' coal
She looks pretty tired
Unsafe to stand anywhere near a large machine in operation
Spirit it’s safe, you are confusing “stand” with “approach unannounced”
no air filters not good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
moar pooowwwweerr!
