  • I setup my Extreme Flight 70" Slick v2 with a T-Motor AM670 and a 6S battery to see if I could get away with a single battery setup on a 70" plane. This video answers the question.

    Flight time on the maiden was 9 minutes. Flight time on the second (and more aggressive) flight of the day was 7.5m.

    Congratulations on the maiden, your 6S decision and for your aircraft choice!! I have the FMS Pitts (V2 red version), also on a 6S 5000 (light 750g pack). It has nothing like the performance of your 6S Slick and I'm not sure it would manage 9 minutes (because it's flat out to look scale). Doesn't look like FMS made the best choice of power plant! They should have come to you for advice!

    Flying a 70" 3d plane on a single 6s is nothing new, I've been flying my 71 3dhs aj slick for the past 11 years on a single 6s, my 72" extra and 73 slick were all single 6s. The am670 is a great motor, I have it in my 69" Raven., but if you can find one, the Motrolfly 4325-380 is even more of a beast, and will swing a 19x10 all day

    Moving the servo for a pull pull system on the rudder is a great idea. I was also wondering if your extra battery for your servos can go farther forward. Looks like it would be hard to get to them though. Back in the day we left our batteries on the plane and just put a charger on the plane. I guess that's another option.

    Very nice, you proved what i always knew could be... never understood why they said 12S for 70 inch planes, I had a 74 inch 12S plane once and on 13S it was way over powered. I always wanted to try 6 or 8s but it was a older plane and kinda heavy. That is a great color scheme. nice Flight.

    Great to see this video, I would love you too do a video with a 6s parallel pack and see how she flys, if your going to have to add weight it’s probably better that it’s extra battery capacity. 😊

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 місяців тому +1

      You and I are of like mind. I thought about adding a battery in parallel, but that defeats the purpose of going to single battery in the first place, so instead: I ordered two 6s6200s. We'll see how that does. The 6200 may very well be the last twist of the dial to make this combo just right.

    Using a dedicated power supply for the electronics, did you remove the power lead from the ESC…? Only using the Ground & Signal wire from the ESC…? I’m currently assembling a ARF and I would rather not depend on the flight pack for servo and receiver power. You briefly mentioned this, and I was curious about the correct way of setting it up. I have a few power eliminator adapters, that I considered using.

    I'm new to electrics, so this may be a dumb question...Since you needed some more nose weight, couldn't you use an 8s battery instead of 6S ? Seems it would give you more flight time as well as a good CG without weights.

    • @RCVideoReviews

      The motor and prop are designed for 6s. Usually not a good idea to add voltage without making sure all the elements in the chain are spec'd for the additional voltage.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  8 місяців тому +1

      I went flying a week after this video with no cameras. I took this plane and the Avanti v2 only. It was a very good day. The best description I can give is that the power is sufficient to do everything I currently know how to do. It doesn't have the ability to do a "hole shot" out of a hover like some of my setups can, but it easily hovers and accelerates going straight up. I think the only negative in this setup is the flight time is *slightly* lower than similar planes--but only just.
      I think this is an easy yes--I would do it again.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 місяці тому

      I switched it to a 12s setup. It was ok for more mild maneuvers but it didn't build up a head of steam for things that required a little more momentum. I also liked the balance better with more weight on the nose.

  • @fox2media880

    I'm surprised how well it ran on 6s. It makes things so much more affordable in terms of motor, esc and battery selection by going down that path. Looks like you could easy do the IMAC sequence on that setup twice (as required in comp flying) in the flight time you got out of it.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  9 місяців тому

      I haven't flown the IMAC sequence, but I've seen it, and I definitely think it has enough power to do the sequence, but I'm hesitant to say for sure on flight time. I just ordered some 6s6200's. Those might solve any lingering issues. And yes, 6s setups definitely save some cabbage.

      I have stabilization on a switch. When it is TOO WINDY for other RC fliers to fly, I turn ON my stabilization, go "3 mistakes high", turn OFF my stabilization and perform my aerobatic maneuvers and when my battery time is telling me it is time to think about landing OR I am done doing my aerobatics - whichever comes first - I turn my stabilization ON and come in for touch and go OR land. Also, I have the SKY to myself because every other flier is sitting and watching OR left the field. So I will NEVER put down having STABILIZATION available - ON an ON/OFF SWITCH for this very reason of flying in TOO WINDY conditions. Two more reasons - I have SAVED a plane a few times from crashing due to "dumb thumbs" OR my arthritis "kinking" my fingers at a particular moment by also turning on stabilization before the plane "tried" to go into the ground. Of course this is what works for me AND is MHO 😉
