I don't think Memes will ever "Die". They may lose their fame, but like you said people have been creating memes before we had a name for them. People are gong to create them long after their fame falls.

No It has just hit a dormant phase but as people grow tired of and bored with internet memes it will evolve again I know several people myself included who think that with 95% of internet memes the joke is dead the humor is stale its just not funny anymore
