Mariah Carey - The Roof (TMC Extended Banga)

With "The Roof," Mariah lunged toward musical maturity by embracing, not shunning hip-hop. She stacked her layers of vocals elegantly and creatively over the track like she was painting on a canvas. She was just floating, both lyrically and vocally. Grinding hip hop beats, a hypnotic melody and wow, the way Trackmasters reworked that Mobb Deep loop! For my mix I wanted to get things more current sounding, so I upped the BPM a little from 95 to 100, wrote a new bassline and added loads of cool new orchestration, but I kept the dreamy bells from the original even though I reproduced them from scratch. I absolutely LOVE so many of your mixes!! So well done down to your written preambles... This one needs way more attention! Those strong triplet-beats breaking things up make it unique and delicious, but the bells maintain that mysterious air. Great job reproducing them. I hope MARIAH takes notice of your talent someday!
