Hi Charnie! Like you, I think all these stamps are beautiful and I love the design and the artwork. Each one is a gem. Yes, whether you call something a souvenir sheet, a miniature sheet, a minisheet, a block or a sheetlet can be very confusing and even the catalogues can disagree. My rule of thumb (and others may well disagree) is that a souvenir sheet and a miniature sheet (or minisheet) are the same thing, it's just that miniature sheet/minisheet is the British English term and souvenir sheet is the American English term. I refer to them primarily as miniature sheets as my English is basically British (with a few weird variations). What makes it more confusing is that in German these are referred to as Block and in French they are (usually/traditionally) referred to as bloc-feuillet (literally block-sheetlet). To my mind, a miniature sheet is a small sheet that contains one or more stamps and have a sheet margin all the way round (though there are exceptions). So, in the stamps that you showed in this video, I would only class the last (with the butterflies on) as a miniature sheet. A few examples would be the United States miniature sheet that was issued for the Capex 78 Canadian International Philatelic Exhibition. These miniature sheets contain 8 stamps but have perforations on all 4 sides as they were originally issued in larger sheets that were then divided up into these miniature sheets. Stanley Gibbons, Michel and Yvert & Tellier all class this as a miniature sheet. Scott just gives the whole thing a number (1757) and then lists each stamp as a sub number (1757a to 1757h) as they do with most miniature sheets. Another exceptional example would be the 1999 Mushroom miniature sheet. In the sheets, the stamps were printed tete-beche and the miniature sheet was also released as 2 miniature sheets tete-beche horizontally. if the 'double miniature sheet' is separated, then you get a perforation down the left-hand side. A block of stamps is when you have (usually) 4 or more stamps together (2 x 2, 2 x 3, 3 x 3, etc.). The block can be all the same stamp, or it can be different stamps se-tenant. So here we have the marine mammals set from the USSR which is a classic block of stamps and would be referred to as a 'block of 4'. The other two blocks do not consist of all stamps, so would be referred to as a 'block of 3 stamps plus label' (the birds) and a 'block of 5 stamps plus label'. What makes these block rather than miniature sheets is that they were printed together in large sheets (of maybe 30 or 50 stamps), but would be collected as a block rather than in the sheet (unless you specifically collect whole sheets, and who can afford to do that these days!) And then there are sheetlets... To me a sheetlet is a sheet of stamps that is smaller (in number of stamps) than would be considered usual. So, for example, most Australian stamps are issued in sheets of 50 stamps (the large $3 Melbourne stamp on the envelope is issued in sheets of 25 stamps, due to the size of the stamp.) However, when there id only one stamp in the set (e.g. Coronation of King Charles III), the stamps are issued in sheets of 10 stamps. These I would refer to as sheetlets. The problem arises with things like the 2023 Cocos (Keeling) Islands sheetlet of 10 Reef Fish stamps. Is this a miniature sheet or a sheetlet. Because all the stamps are different it could be either. Stanley Gibbons and Michel list it as a miniature sheet, Yvert & Tellier list it as a sheet of individual stamps and Scott lists it as a single number with each stamp having that number and a letter (424 and 424a to 424j) as they do for most thing like this whether it would be called a miniature sheet or a sheetlet. I'll leave it up to you to decide whether you think it would be a miniature sheet or a sheetlet. FYI: The Soviet Marine Mammals stamps were a joint issue with the USA, so there's also a United States version of these stamps. The Soviet blocks of stamps with the zebra labels were issued for the zoo relief fund. There is also another block of animals in a horizontal format and a single stamp with a stork in flight. I may have also included these somewhere in this envelope. Keep looking. (If not I can probably send them to you at some time.) The miniature sheet (with the butterflies on) has a theme of Nature Protection and was issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Philatelists'' Union. I hope that helps, more than confuses. Thank you for a lovely video full of pure joy and enthusiasm. It makes my day to watch your videos. I'll try to get round to sending you an email at some time today or over the weekend.
Hi Steve, thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful information!!! I started reading up about terminology, but your answer is by far superior to what I could find so far! Wow! Really thank you. I will read what you wrote a few times, and keep notes to some day maybe use it in some of my videos if I may. 🙂Interesting that the Soviet Union and USA collaborated and co-issued stamps. Thank you for watching, for your wonderful comment, and giving me the beautiful, beautiful stamps!!!!!
Gorgeous stamps! I only collect worldwide, up until 1959...so I'm missing out on a ton of amazing flora and fauna postage. Those are my favorite topic. I get very excited when I come across older ones, though:) Thanks for sharing these images and spreading joy:)

It means so much to me. Kind regards!!! 🙂
