    One note - I get a lot of questions about knocking another player's bag(s) in the hole or off the board. Either player can knock either player's bag in the hole or off the board during a round. The easiest thing to remember is that nothing is scored and all bags are in play until the END of the round. Whatever is in the hole or on the board at the end of the round is scored for the team whose bag it is regardless of who threw it.
    So if you knock your opponent's bag in - it counts as in for them. If you knock one of your own in - it counts as in for you. If you knock one of your opponent's bags off the board it is now off the board and they don't get a point. If you knock your own off - too bad. All that matters is what's on the board or in the hole at the END of the round.
    I hope that clears up any confusion!

    We have found with many players waiting at a backyard game, we count every point. Good when games are dragging on and this will reduce wait times.

    Thank you for taking the time to produce this (and your other) videos.
    In summary, I think these four suggestions are the best handicapping options:
    1. Allow the weaker player to throw more bags. (4 bags vs. 3, for example.)
    2. Allow the weaker player to stand closer to the board.
    3. Score more points for the weaker player for their bags on the board and for their cornholes. For example, each bag on the board scores 1.5 points instead of 1. Their cornholes might score 5 points instead of 3.
    4. Spot the weaker player a certain amount of points.

    My girlfriend and I are both pretty terrible so we just score normally... if she gets 3 and I get 5, whatever, it's 3 to 5. Also, we allow bounce-ups. Someday we'll get good enough to score the right way! Thanks for the great video.

    Handy cap game...one point for on the board, two points for any part of the bag over the hole and three points in the hole, a bag that bounces on the board may be rethrown one time...regular rules apply for pro player. Pro player goes back to 13 if they go over 21 in any round. Thanks for the video.

    One way we play when it’s a lot of us is we do scoring by 1, 3, 5 .
    I have a football themed board so it helps regulate the scoring. So the way I do it is 1 point for on the board , 5 points for in the hole, and 3 points for any bag that is “inside the 20”. It’s fun and like I said it speeds up the game a bit.

    Every thought of playing cornhole with horseshoe style rules? If it lands on the board, its 1point, if it lands within the rim of the hole, its 2 points, and 3 points if the bag goes into the whole, points are only cancelled out if the your opponents bag physically lands on the your bag like in horseshoes. Just a question.

    My friends/family and I always play you must land exactly on 21 and if you go over u go back to 13 and this process can repeat indefinitely until someone gets exactly 21. It makes it fun because you are never out of it. I’ve been part of a lot of games where I’ve been up/down 15 or more points and ending up losing or coming back to win and they were some of the most memorable games I’ve played. It always keeps the inferior team in the game so they don’t lose interest. It also makes you have to practice your shots where you land on the board but don’t try to get it in the hole. Everywhere I’ve ever played has played this way, maybe it’s just an Ohio thing idk. We also play if they game is ever 11 or more to 0 then the game is automatically over and considered a “whitewash” but that’s more so to just try to embarrass our friends who are all super competitive

    • @Joe2Jock
      @Joe2Jock  Рік тому +3

      We've done that same format in Colorado for league play at times as well. I personally don't care for it too much aside from casual games as I think letting the inferior team stay in the game is similar to giving out ribbons to everyone haha. I'd rather come up with a fair "handicap" and then play regular scoring to 21 or beyond. You can score 40 points in a game and hit the 1-pointers you need to get yourself to 21 and still lose. I also don't like that, for example, if you land on 21 your first throw then they miss the board you have to throw off yourself to not go over. I've seen it way too many times, and have actually lost the league tournament once, because I've thrown off two or three bags to not go over, then they happen to get the last one on or in to stay in it and then luck one on or in to win later in the game. You can't proactively win the game with good throws sometimes in that format.

    • @marcflauto8942
      @marcflauto8942 Рік тому +3

      @@Joe2Jock I agree where you’re coming from for sure. I think the better team should win each game no matter how fast that happens and if they go over 21 then good for them. Even more reason they should win. At the most I could see having a win by 2 scoring system, but I’ve never played that way. I know what you mean when u finally get to 21 and still have 2-3 bags left and u have to just chuck them to your partner in kind of a celebratory way and then your opponent gets the last bag on and extends the game and there’s nothing u can do about it. I also don’t play competitively like you in official tournaments. I wish I did. Maybe some day. All my cornhole games are just vs friends and families at summer gatherings, so really just a few months a year and not as much as I’d like. Cornhole is one of my favorite things about summer and beating your friends/family is such a sweet feeling. Prolly not as good as winning in a real tournament tho. Anyway, great videos, keep them coming. I never knew how people would get that nice smooth spin that slides right into the hole until your saw your up close video that shows your release in slow mo. Hi Wayne - a few suggestions. If he's playing on a hard surface he could set the boards on carpet. He can even cut it the size of the throwing box. Using thicker wood for the top or putting cross braces under the boards helps with vibration, sound, and makes the boards play better - albeit heavier. He could also use some type of foam or sound deadener on the underside of the top sheet. Last thing would be to try different bags. Some of them are a little quieter due to different fill material.

    The handicap system we use is based on past performance. So player one may play off scratch, player 2 off 4; versus player 3 on 3 and player 4 on 5 resulting in TEAM A having a handicap of 4 and TEAM B having a handicap of 8 resulting in TEAM B having a net handicap of 4. So at the start of the game TEAM A would start from zero, whilst TEAM B would start on 4 (hope that makes sense)

So if they lost 6-21, 8-21, 4-21 then they average score is 6. They'll get a handicap of 15 which brings them to a very even playing field. I like some of your ideas and some in the comments. • @Joe2Jock
      @Joe2Jock  Рік тому

      Essentially it's as described in the video - it's what is on the board or in the hole after all 8 bags have been thrown. So if you knock yours in it counts for you, and if they knock yours in it counts for you. Knock your own bag off it's off. If they knock yours off it's off. So simply wait til the end of the round and tally what's on or in for each team regardless of how it got there.

      The official rule is the first person / team to end a round (important distinction) at 21 points or more. So yes, if both have 20 for example - you throw the entire round, and if you would have gained 6 points in the round you would win because you're easily over 21. There is no rule that you have to land ON 21, although some leagues adopt that rule (which I don't care for personally).

      No, whichever team / player scores points throwing one direction will throw first the next throw. So if Team A player throws to start the game, but Team B scores 3 points after the first 4 bags then Team B will throw first back the other direction. If Team B continues scoring and is ahead 15-3, but Team A scores 1 point throwing one direction then Team A would throw first the other direction even though they're losing 15-4 at that point. We play the same count of scoring but we do a Wash of points. The red team lands one in the whole and two on the board - 5pts. The blue team lands 2 in the whole and 1 on the board - 7pts. Then you Wash points from the score. Because blue team had 2 in the whole and red 1 that means 1 of each washes leaving Red team with now hole count and blue team with one and the same for the board. So, in the end, the red team ends up with 1pt and the blue team with 3pts.
