There are plenty of talented people in all arts who are exceptionally talented but just not performers, but boy, was she born to perform, it’s crystal clear from the first 10 seconds (pun intended).
She was so off on most of the tambourin hits. The sound makes it so obvious when the timing is off as well. I think the teacher probably put more of a focus on the movement and disregared the timing and it shows.
**Crystal Huang** is haughty, mischievous, shrewd, flexible, she takes her time, she stretches, each figure is more difficult by the intensity she gives it. Great assurance, playing with the mischievous and contagious tambourine. Quick and enthusiastic, warm and lively end! I like how she has fun with this tambourine, how delicate she is in the execution of each of her movements, very graceful, joyful, she breathes this score. A talented performance. I think the "problem" is the talent level is going up. It's getting harder and harder to determine a dancer who is clearly better among the competition. At least that is my take. If that is correct, the future is bright for ballet across the USA.
@@DavidLeBlanc yes you're right, i saw dancers like ava ramirez, chloe wang, and many more gave out extremely clean performances, they did not make it to the final round also. this year the judges already chose more dancers to the final round, but still it's hard to determine who is really better
@@myotiswii I believe the delays were a a stylistic choice/artistic license. I actually enjoyed it…it gave a sense of delayed gratification…you knew it was coming! 😊
I love her facial expression and it feel like she is not only dancing but she is performing this piece. It is so fun to watch. This is my favorite variation for the la Esmeralda
Please watch gold and silver before commenting that "she should have won first". She didn't perfectly execute the turns and had mistakes here and there due to the challenges she overtook. This is one of the most expressive Esmeraldas I've seen though! She did many interesting things that I haven't seen in other Esmeraldas in the past. For example, 1:00, 1:11 and 1:18, 1:25 and there's probably more but you can see for yourself.
That won Bronze?!?!? What on earth does the Gold and Silver look like then?? This was incredibly technical, and stylish, albeit not traditional. But so what?? New generation, new approach. This was stunning!

im not ballerinas or the knowest person about ballet, i really like La Esmeralda and i see how beautiful Crystal execution in this performance. Like she put every detail in her movement, make her so geourges, her confidence that i luv it so much, makes me remember ballerinas doll in tinkerbell, she make it like its real and i believe it was so hard to hold that position for a little bit long time. i already saw la esmeralda in YAGP 2023 2024 another contestant, but for this stunning performace? No one beat her
I suspect she or her instructor has Chinese classic dance background. The extra extending moment and the way she added falling-ish float at the end of turns reminds me of Chinese classic dance (yes we do it intentionally in Chinese classic dance), which might be also be the reason people think she’s off beat and balance. Maybe she just needs to find a balance between her intense styling and being precise. Her style is so beautiful and unique. One of my favorite Esmeralda performances!
If true, then I hope it catches on in the wider ballet world, because it gave this such an extra dimension of movement & fluidity! Tradition's great, but it also needs regular updates.

I compared to other competition videos, her music is slower than others, and a few problems with her fool/leg positions in the turns. It is the little things that make the difference. But a wonderful performer!

I love how she combines stylization and character with clean movements, she's one of the liveliest Esmeraldas. She may still be in the process of perfectioning that balance but omg is she good at it!!

her timing was kinda off + she almost fell from her turns, to think that she still place in the top three is actually good

The tambourinhits were mostly to late. Timing is key for this choreography and she was late most of the time.

What stage presence and charisma!! The technical things will be improved and refined with age, but she's got that star quality that can't be taught.
