    In this video Lee Morris compares the new Westcott FJ400 to the Godox AD400 Pro.
    In many ways both lights are almost identical but when we look closer you can see a few small differences. The Godox is a little smaller, has slightly more refined build quality, and a slightly brighter modeling light. The FJ400 has better battery performance, the remote can work with every camera brand, it has a year warranty and a direct customer service line, and is $80 cheaper.
    Both lights are absolutely amazing for the money but if you're looking for the absolute best value for the money, the FJ400 is the new king.

    I’ll buy this if it works with Godox triggers like some of the other brands. If Wescott wants to shake up the market they need to be easily adopted.

      Looks like a rebrand of Jinbei products, so the answer is probably no. However, I have heard of people getting dual hotshoe adapters and running Godox and Jinbei/Orlit stuff together (you have to have both triggers on your camera)

    This is a great step for Westcott. They just need to back it up now with a full line of products that photographers can use. I’m sure a lot of people have a godox V1, AD200 and 400pro kit that covers them in all scenarios. I can’t imagine getting into this system to shoot events and having three of these to manage

    Purchased the Godox AD400 and XPro trigger last week. I like the build quality. Came with a 1yr limited warranty. My shop gave me a bit of a discount. I went for the 400 over the 600 because I wanted the smaller size and weight. It’s still 8lbs with a 36” EZLock Glow Octabox which I wouldn’t call light. If I run into situations where I think a full charge won’t be sufficient I’ll get another battery.

    The remote does not work with "any camera brand". Pentax and Sigma are not supported. Cactus released a multi-brand trigger (supporting TTL across brands) that supports all brands that the Westcott (Jinbei) trigger supports plus Pentax and Sigma.

  • @RossMcLendon
    @RossMcLendon 5 років тому +12

    These look like rebrands of the Jinbei HD400 (strobe) and recently-released TR-Q7 (trigger). Not sure how they got the recycle time down to under 1s, so there might be a few differences. Adorama sells quite a bit of Jinbei stuff under the Orlit brand. I have the Orlit version of this light and have liked it well enough. I'd be interested to know if the wireless system on this Westcott branded product is interoperable with all the other Jinbei stuff (just like the Godox/Wistro/Flashpoint stuff all works with the R2 trigger regardless of what particular brand name is on the light you're using).

    Ok this does a decent job of competing with the AD400 Pro. That's nice...I guess...but the Godox light doesn't exist in a vacuum. Godox gear is compelling because it's a full suite of lighting equipment that covers nearly every lighting need you can think of...and it all works together. Literally the only other company with a similar system is Profoto for significantly more money.

    Curious to see if Westcott keeps up with this or drops it like they did with the "Stroblite" series. Will they continue to develop (with the help of Jinbei) an eco system or will it stop here with the three lights, FJ200, FJ80 and FJ400? Godox continues to strive to compete with Elinchrom/ Broncolor/ and Profoto and they're doing a damn fine job from what I can tell. If you want a U.S. warranty, buy the Adorama "Flashpoint" brand. Problem solved.

    • @davidpalermo4695

    • @toddstrong1353
      @toddstrong1353 2 роки тому +2

      @@davidpalermo4695 So, like I mentioned above, buy the flashpoint branded version. You get a warranty and you can buy extra protection from Adorama. They're a pretty large retailer and they back up their products pretty well. I don't think you'll have an issue in that regard. Buying the Godox brand, I can agree that warranty issues could present a problem. I'm not sure how Westcott will deal with issues regarding these lights as they are made by Jinbei, a Chinese company. Will they have a repair facility in the states? Probably, but so does Adorama with the Flashpoint brand. I guess it all boils down to a comfort level. I've used the Westcott lights and didn't care for the way they triggered. In my experience, they didn't hold up to the hype regarding the trigger. A lot of times the flash would be way to hot and other times not enough all while not changing any settings and giving ample time between shots. The conversion from TTL to manual was inaccurate as well. However, when everything was firing on all cylinders, it produced nice light like anything else. I'll also concede that the issues I experienced could have been user error but it was enough for me not to buy into the system and to keep my Flashpoint gear. What I have learned form owning or renting several different light systems from Buff to Elinchrom to godox/flashpoint is it's all the same if you know how to use it. I've had similar results with all of the systems.

Maybe they have addressed these issues but, I had enough problems that I decided to go with Flashpoint instead. No system is perfect and all have misfires here and there. I've had really good success with Flashpoint (Godox) and have no complaints for the price point.

I'm having a hard time choosing between the Westcott or the AD400 as I'm rebuilding my light rig from scratch. a few months ago I was easily leaning towards Westcott, mostly due to where it's made and price. I do want to be able to link a main 400w Mono Light w/ at least one speed light, or mono light, maybe two. Would the Westcott send a radio signal to other brands? I think westcott now has a 25$ Lithium Ion receiver to work with 3rd party strobes, but that's one more thing to charge up to use each time. one more thing to buy per extra light.

    $668 for the Westcott and their remote ($688 if you're on Sony).
    $718 for the Godox/Flashpoint and their best remote.
    1 year warranty for the Westcott.
    2 year warranty on the Flashpoint through Adorama in the U.S. (don't buy the Godox)- with a person on a phone to talk to Lee.
    No system (yet) with the Westcott.
    And... that's where Westcott lost me. If I were planning on buying only one light or at least one type of light then the Westcott might be the way to go. But the lack of the rather large system on Godox/Flashpoint side now makes that $50 extra expense an easy choice between these two.
    I really like Westcott and their products typically are great quality so I hope they keep pushing in this segment of the market. The competition should help all of us.
    But for now, I'll stick with my Xplor600's and Evolv200's, and X R2, and etc., etc...

    Careful doing business with a company that just deleted all their negative comments from UA-cam. I have been doing research on this strobe since it's introduction and when I went back to read the comments again on the Westcott launch video, most of them were gone. Just for that reason, I'll stick with Godox. But great feedback here. Thanks FStoppers for keeping it real.

    Tilt on remote is BIG actually. Also, I didn't even know there was a AD400. Been using AD360 and AD600 Godox. SO far in 2 years I have had a Flashpoint version of the Godox fail with the battery. Flashpoint was even bad to deal with from that issue. I didn't know I can charge and shoot the AD600 . It would be great that plugged in it would switch to AC wall power vs a dapater that's $150. I wonder how it will work using 2 camera brands in the same shoot...As now the Godox will switch from a Sony to Canon with the swap of the trigger. Westcott likely made it easier, one hopes. Also, Westcott does make some great modifiers, and SURELY you say this is a USA brand the strobe is of course made in.......China.

  • @bnkrazie
    @bnkrazie 5 років тому +2

    Westcott may be a name brand but a cheap one at that. I bought some modifiers years ago and they all felt cheap then broke on me in a short time with light use. I know it's about money but you are also paying what you get in photography. Just bought some Elinchrom lights and modifiers and out of the box, it's high quality.

    Come on F-stoppers you know this is a paid advert. Most of the comments below know that this is just a rebranded version of Jinbei HD-400. There's nothing much innovative about what wescott has sent to you for review. I would have rather your team perform some real world test and results to show us the pros and cons. If I wanted to see the product I would've headed down to B&H or Adorama or a distributor to do exactly what you're doing now. Compare 3 different lights.
