I can watch this man work for hours. Deliberate, considered, experienced - a good wrench man thinks and plans in advance constantly. Much can be learned by observing Lucky's work methods themselves. (It made my heart glad to see the use of the screw jack under the front of the car, too.) Props! -Ed on the Ridge
I built a '69 Mustang Coupe over the last 3 years and mechanically it's almost a twin to the Disgustang. 408w, efi, AFR heads, air gap intake, TKO 600 trans and a 3.70 Trutrac out back with mid eye 5 leaf springs. Even the same tires because they're almost as good as the BFGs but half the price, so you don't cry when they turn to smoke. It all makes me think I *almost* know what I'm doing!
Ahhhh, the air hammer... years ago I was a Ford mechanic for a short time at a big dealership that had a large shop where customers drove in and talked to the service writers inside the shop. I was on the far end of the shop, and across from me worked Max the suspension guy, who had an air hammer fetish; he used it on E V E R Y T H I N G - even stuff that a normal hammer would easily break loose. So the tune-up guys, who worked right up by the service writers, had a spare metal workbench and every day they would get out an air hammer with a blunt bit, and every time Max fired up his air hammer, one of them would run over and start hammering that steel workbench, and holy shit was that loud - and every time a chorus of "MAX! MAX! KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF!" would come rolling in from the service desk. That table looked like a sink bowl from so much hammering. And Max never figured out what was going on because he couldn't hear their hammer. So many adult sized children in that business...
Went through the exact same thing 35 years ago on a '65 Falcon. We figured out the issue was not the lowering blocks but spring wrap. My brother & I wound up plating in the open parts of the spring perches to create a box and that cured the problem
Yep, up here in the rust belt I just changed the shackles on my 20 year old truck. Cutting torch, death wheel and lots of swearing. Lucky puts a little WD on it and taps the bolts out. And that thing is way older.
Really nice to see the Discustang coming together instead of sitting abandoned in some lot somewhere like so many other RK projects. My OCD wouldn't let me put that back together without painting the drums though.
Lucky.. about 25 years ago.. the owner of Hollywood spring and axle told me a secret.. stuck spring eye inner sleeves. tighten the nut so the shackles or exterior brackets grip the inner sleeve and loosen the bolt. this busts the rust bond loose . you may have to tighten the nut 3 or 4 times. but it saved me hours of frustration over the past few decades.
As someone who has also taken a rear end out by himself, I say that was a great method you showed. Thanks for this video, it was really helpful for me.
So happy I found your channel Lucky! You and Tony are the real deal forshiz. My step dad Randy would always tell us young bucks "be good, but if you can't be good don't get caught ". Great minds .....
More solid ,observant, thorough ,well thought out work from lucky .I dont even think about it but I watch any and all lucky puts out ,I've applied more lucky tactics real world than all others combined. My cousin is working on a 70 428 scj.4 spd.shaker Grande coupe notchback. mustang
I picked up the magnetic LED lights from HF after seeing you use them in a couple videos. They have literally become my favorite tool in the garage. I went back for another and it is sold out on the shelf, so it looks like the word is out on them. I saw them charging above your service cart in this video. Just wanted to say thanks. Also got a power probe 3. Keep up the good work!
Love watching your show and thanks for all your tips . Here is a spin on grinding wheel that works great especially on sheet metal where you want to take off only the weld and not the base metal. Its called WALTER FLEX CUT 60 GR 15-L 456 . Keep up the Great show
You make things look so easy and neat like your whole shop is. I know you will think l am crazy but would like to see you put a big back window in the shop truck. I had a 67 3/4 CST with small window and l hated it. I know it would look much better but l don't know if you would like it.
Lucky, media blast the diff housing and spray hot vinegar on it via a garden sprayer. The next step is to rinse , dry, and repeat if needed. Grab a rattle can of matte clear, and put a cherry on top. Yah, it's weird, but try it on a scrap iron housing some time. The other cool effect is to flame it with a torch (it takes practice) and clear after you get the color case hardening visual. Yes, this is only for rusty mods approach to your favorite beater.
When I had to change the front eye bolts on my mustang the only thing that worked was getting the biggest cutoff wheel I could find, sticking it up between the frame and the spring, and chopping it right in half. Not fun but necessary :P
Great work Lucky as always. It must be cold there, i see you have a sweatshirt on and the garage door open as i sit here in 20 degrees and watching it snow again in Pa. lol
Somehow i always knew Lucky was going to be the one to finish the rear suspension on the discustang that David and Duchek started years ago and never finished. Lol
hey lucky ,whats the deal with the sub frame connectors in the rear ? right near the "MOD" name they kinda of end abruptly.im sure they "re welded in really good . sorry ,i forgot .....its frieburgers ..........
Hi Lucky, I read that you set the pinion angle 6 degrees down. That seems odd. Can you confirm this? I have a 70 Mach 1 with similar spring perch issues but I cannot see how you would need to point the pinion down that far. Thanks.
Just 1 question( and don't call me Columbo)- you went to all the effort to paint the rear end; why didn't you carry the new paint all the way out to include the drums- or is there a disc conversion coming?
Quote of the day "Its suffering from a severe case of. .frieburger."
I'm totally stealing that line.
Lucky is not a fitting nickname... Luck has nothing to do with any of your work. Much respect, Mr. Costa
👊

Love to see the Disgustang finally getting all the small refinements to make it perfect. It has come a long way from the junk yard.
Doesn’t break a sweat, doesn’t get dirty, doesn’t even need gloves. Sheesh, California. Love ya, Lucky!
Still can't get over how good that car was to come from where it did. Thanks. Lucky

I worked in a spring shop up here in the North, I'm super jealous how nicely the springs came apart.

Yeah I understand completely but these are old and I’m sure DF will be replacing them or maybe even a disc Brake conversation.
@@luckysgarageshow Makes sense. Thanks for the reply.
Friedburger is fortunate to have you wrench on his ride....mint!

I missed you the last couple of weeks. Hope things are okay. I enjoy the videos and appreciate your work.
Thanks for turning me on to Esajian Wheels...I just got my 22's and im stoked. What a great guy and wheel builder
So happy I found your channel Lucky!

Diff. fix looks beyond clean! (Besides being held in place solidly now). 👍

Nice to see some refinements on the Disgustang rather than parking lot patch work, looking good
Thanks for the disgustang updates, its answering a lot of questions i have about the '69 coupe im going to be working on this summer
Better than it was when it rolled off the assembly line way much better Lucky 🍀.
The Mustang is coming together nicely.
Lucky, you're one of my favorites! Keep the videos coming. Show us some Lucky Merch too!

I could do that all by myself, if I had the tools and talent. Yup I could never do that. Thanks for sharing.
It's always a pleasure when a bushing sleeve is rusted to the bolt and starts spinning...
Hello Lucky great episode the Disgustang is looking good great job Lucky. Wishing you well Take Care Sir
Just found your channel, super excited to see more of your work
Always enjoy your videos, gives me something to look foward to during these winter months.
My 71 Cougar front spring mount as stuck as well. I ended up slicing the spring, rubber isolator, and inner sleeve which freed the bolt.
If you can't stay safe don't get caught. Love it.
Much support to you Lucky. Subscribed.
Man, I love this car. I have the same springs in my '70 FB. Perfect ride height.
love your vids, learn something new with every one
Calvert spring perches are the best
the white on the housing is dried oven cleaner
you're the man, lucky! thank you.
👊
Nice job! Really enjoy your channel!
No rear swaybar? Seems like a must-have addition while you are under there!
Would like to have seen how you calculate or arrive at your desired pinion angle!
Missed opportunity to give it a mean rake and give it that funny car look
I caked my new eye bolts in anti-seize. I don’t want to go through that removal again.

Yep I had a big window before

Great video lucky love to see real people work on stuff not the fake shit you see on TV
It would be nice to see the car down on the floor to check out the stance and maybe hear it run as well!!
4 link and coil overs would be sick...slammed on those wheels and style would be a dream
I love watching your videos but I can't take the leaky air tools! It's like nails on a chalkboard for me LOL. Thanks for the video🍀!
Great video, everything looks real nice. 👍
Looks like the welds on those sub- frame connectors are a little sketch. Also, great content. Thx.
Nice work fellas.👍👍👍
When running low gears"5:38" we rolled pads so we boxed them. Problem went away
When I had to change the front eye bolts on my mustang the only thing that worked was getting the biggest cutoff wheel I could find, sticking it up between the frame and the spring, and chopping it right in half. Not fun but necessary :P
Great job Lucky, I hope David is happy with now.
Love all your vehicles but I'm partial to the chevelle and the C10, throw in some more videos of them!
Disgustang has come a long way since Roadkill episode #66!!
Reminds me of that Mister Mister song.... “Take.... These broken springs...........”
Great work Lucky as always. It must be cold there, i see you have a sweatshirt on and the garage door open as i sit here in 20 degrees and watching it snow again in Pa. lol
I've done way too many rear leaf spring replacements on Fords. That front eye bolt never comes out without a fight.
Lucky says: “don’t attack my tacks” 😆
Nice work Lucky !
10:34 i do the same lmao "oh well it fell, just grab another and pick it up later"
Somehow i always knew Lucky was going to be the one to finish the rear suspension on the discustang that David and Duchek started years ago and never finished. Lol
Needs rear disk brakes. Great job as always
Great Job Lucky!
Very informative video. Keep it up man
Hope your back is ok again.
I’m try to be careful
We used those blocks for street stocks so there ya go.😉
Keep up the great work Lucky
Looking good Lucky 🍻
Ditch the old style clamps for band clamps, they work SOOO much better.. plus you get to make the "one time at band clamp" joke.
Nice vid Lucky Thanks
Lucky, just curious to know what you painted the diff with? I like the look. Keep up the good work boss.
It's cool that when John walked in he jumped right in and helped. Where did you get the springs from?
the 454 SS in the background looks just like the one that was on Deboss Garage
Customers like freiburger are good for business
I miss you and Tony did anything happen to the barra vortec 4.2 L
Great vid lucky
Nice job 👍🏼
No panhard rod, watts linkage, wob link or anti tramp bars?Does the original set up make for interesting handling?
I think it needs CalTracks or something similar.
lucky for President
OLLD GUYS RULE!
hey lucky ,whats the deal with the sub frame connectors in the rear ? right near the "MOD" name they kinda of end abruptly.im sure they "re welded in really good . sorry ,i forgot .....its frieburgers ..........
Looks good
I haven't seen a Carter fuel pump for a minute.
Hi Lucky, I read that you set the pinion angle 6 degrees down. That seems odd. Can you confirm this? I have a 70 Mach 1 with similar spring perch issues but I cannot see how you would need to point the pinion down that far. Thanks.
Did you see Dave’s circular tire burns and possible engine hurt in this stang recently?
Now if we can only get lucky to ask for new mics like Finnegan's. lol
lucky for Supreme Leader
What up lucky charms
Be glad Tony didn't drive it not to mention Freiburgering it.
Did I miss setting the pinion angle?
If youre replacing the springs better to go with a mid eye spring to get the height you want and not lowering blocks.
Flag on the play. After further review you did do mid-eye springs...
👊
David Lucky is gonna bend up your stuff
Just 1 question( and don't call me Columbo)- you went to all the effort to paint the rear end; why didn't you carry the new paint all the way out to include the drums- or is there a disc conversion coming?
Rear disc brake conversion
I just bought 4 x Magnum 500 for my 69 Mach1, what tire size is on this car?
NO glove welding LOL. My hands would already be sun burnt
