@Degare I think she would have been so happy and proud that someone black portrayed her since no matter the skin tone of dark people, they were all treated the exact same way, may be light skinned were treated a little bit better but that is it.

I love angela basset and I was really impressed with her role, sucks they killed her off but so shocked they actually got some of the actual religion incorporated in the show with the orisha papa legba, aka elegua, aka eshu, and im sure many other names through out the diaspora. That really stood out to me in my life I have never seen the orishas come into play when speaking about african slave religions, all I ever see is a misrepresentation and big hollywood perpetuation of "black magic" and devil worship, which I feel there was some hints of in the show, but still it was better than most things I have seen when on this topic. And Angela is one of the greatest actresses/actors in my opinion, so this really brought it to life for me, she felt like my grandma, or TiTi(aunt) im still mad she died, and all of her shop was shop up though -_- lol
I never knew they were making a movie about Maria L. I read an awsome book on her over 12 yrs ago. Thanks Queen for having Mrs. Basset on the show!!!!

"Root" but pronounced in a certain kind of Southern US accent (rhymes with foot). It's a reference to rootwork/conjure/hoodoo, which is a form of African American spiritual culture. For some it's akin to a religion, for others its a set of spiritual practices used within other religions (namely Christianity). In any cases, it is a beautiful part of African American history and culture.

We can say it day and not but as long as the people behind the xmen movies u will not get an awesome xmen movie with all characters being portrayed like the should. That's real

People from New Orleans know who I am celebrities come down and do all the tourist things they go to “recommended” places that are all touristy they do not know New Orleans or the realness or the people or the truth, they come for the Disney Land aspect.
When we were growing up the old school celebrities would come to our house on Valence sit on our Gallery steps to hang out and smoke weed and have a beer with my Pops May he Rest In Peace! They got to really know the city and the people and the history!
That is why the movies about New Orleans in the early 90s 80s and 70s were so real!
I am 9 generation New Orleanian and I have 2 pictures of the real Marie Laveau not painting pictures that my family refuses to sell to these clowns because they have no idea and disrespect our culture so much!
All the psychics in New Orleans tell me I am Marie Laveau I was born with special gifts so that could be true. I can hear her clearly!
