This is all well and good, but debates such as these are never won or lost on their relative merits. The reason why grouse shooting will not be banned is because it is largely a sport of the wealthy and the upper classes, those same people that went to school with government ministers, or who donate to them, or hold other positions of influence. This is the same reason as to why the double barrelled shotguns used on driven game days will likely never be banned, but pumps and semi-automatics (which we, the plebs, tend to use) likely will be. You can already feel them gearing up to ban pump shotguns after the Plymouth shooting, and all the logic and principled arguments to dissuade them from doing so will be just as effective as the arguments used to dissuade them from banning handguns. It's a complete waste of breath.
And the only reason that people want to ban grouse shooting is because it is a sport of the wealthy. It's reverse snobbery. Grouse shooting is good for the economy and the environment. Open up the land? People act like it's their land; it isn't.
