Before changing, I would listen to her other podcasts - it seems like she is giving mixed messages. In one podcast she said she workouts in the morning, and to break her fast she would have an espresso shot with almond milk. This was from her podcast with Andrew Huberman. She obviously has some valid points in what she is saying, but I wouldn't change everything based on it. I believe a lot of her expertise is focused on menopausal women, but I could be wrong. Maybe also listen to that podcast and make subtle changes. What works for some may not work for others!
I also kinda feel like everyone differs, even women from women. I've always fasted in the morning and it helps me a lot! Loved this info! I'm gonna listen to this podcast.
I fasted for a majority of my late teens, and almost all of my 20’s. You don’t really start to notice the negative affects until late 20’s, and into your 30’s. I just turned 31, and can absolutely attest to what Dr.Simms is saying. Fasting has 0 affect on my ability to lose weight, and my energy reserves while working, or working out are non existent if I’m not using food for fuel. It’s just science 🤷🏼♀️
@ that’s awesome you found what works for you! I’m in my mid 30s and it’s been the only thing that’s helped me maintain my weight and energy. Everyone’s so different so it takes experimenting with what works for you :)
The way that I was in a full-blown argument with my male coworkers about how females have it harder!!!! Yet we do it with so much grace. Thank you for sharing this, Gabby! the sound quality was a little blown out and staticky on my end. unsure if it’s the mic?
I’ve been listening to her as well and one thing that’s helped me easily get in some protein before my coffee/tea, is I’ll just do half a scoop of protein powder and mix it with water and chug it. It’s so easy. Or half a bottle of the Fairlife protein shakes!!
I also just finished listening to that same podcast yesterday..I’ve heard others contradict some of her facts but I trust her more lol she’s changed my perspective on things for sure!
I’m a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and although I completely agree with the importance of vitamin D3 for women, especially those living in cold climates, your ND was doing the right thing taking you off of vitamin D when your levels were elevated. Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin meaning getting too much of it is toxic. You should supplement vitamin D3 but get it checked yearly on blood work and adjust your dosing accordingly.
Hey Gabby! I came to the comment section to specifically thank you for this video! It’s very much appreciated, and keep up the good work! Sending love from a fellow Canadian 🇨🇦 Oh also… I know about syncing your workouts to your cycle, but what confuses me is if you’re not lifting weights every week, for instance you skip a week or two to do softer exercise, how are you actually going to be building muscle if you’re not being consistent? I’m not sure if you have the answer to that, but it’s just a thought I have.
what ive seen girls who cyckle sync do, is do a "deload" week. this is actually super benficial for men and women. even when i was doing crossfit, once a month the program had a deload week. this means you do the same exercises as usual, but do lighter weight or lower reps/less intensity. you dont need to skip weeks of lifting! just be more gentle or go easier :D
The way I JUST finished a 2 hour DOAC episode on dopamine, go straight into watching this video and a whole minute in you’re telling me I need to watch ANOTHER 2 hour episode 😅 I’m stressed. But Steven is really out here doing the lords work😂
so glad you're putting this info out there. I went on a deep dive a couple years ago and have been having a protein and water every single morning before coffee + stopped fasting. its honestly improved my life. like noticeably but every time I try to tell another woman they basically roll their eyes at me
GABY WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU THIS FOR YEARSSSSSSSSS but still (i say this with love) remember she is not your doctor or dietician!! many of the health data even down to general healthy weight ranges are not taking into account minorities like myself. A lot of the data is based off Caucasians. I’m black. I have more muscle mass. The chart at the doctors office says I’m close to being overweight when I barely have ANY body fat on me. This lady on the podcast is giving great tips ofc but she still generalizes a lot…still confused on her title also. Her statements on creatine and protein don’t take into account women with kidney issues (like me). My mom is a family physician m.d and she lost it when she found out I was taking creatine + glutamine + a high unnecessary amount of electrolytes. CLOSING STATEMENT: I will ALWYAS be suss about someone saying “women should take _” without recommending blood work before adding supplements in. remember to be mindful of people giving health advice who are also selling a product connected to that advice
Throwback to when my ex and I would both go to our 6am CrossFit class and I’d HAVE to pound down a preworkout snack and he’d eat nothing at all and be fine and I was like, “why????”
Men may have that kind of stuff easier but if I could wake up tomorrow a man I wouldn't. Men have the pressure of being protectors. When I hear a strange noise outside the house in the middle of the night he's the one up ready for whatever. I'll be his back up lol and women make the humans of the world so we're pretty awesome
As someone who’s allergic to dairy and eggs I find breakfast sooo hard. And I wake up at 5 to leave the house by 615. It’s hard to like make a breakfast. I struggle. But I know I need to be better on that.
wait love this video!!! i’m happy to know i’ve been doing things right, but not eating past 6pm might not work for me😅 i’ve always trained on my cycle anyways! it’s helped, even just walking helps for me
I literally have to pause this video and comment. I feel like you say everything i’m thinking!! 😅 love starting my morning yapping with you. ( because yes I am yapping back at my tv because I relate SO much to what your saying! Lol love you girl 🫶🏼 if you’re ever in Austin lets get coffee!
ive been wanting to track my cycle to workouts/eating for soooo long but unfortunately i havent had a consistent cycle since i was 13 and then i got on BC at 17 so we will really never know unless i get off BC.. plus i dont have health insurance lol love living in america !
ugh you’re one of my absolute favorites youtubers this video was so wonderful i love learning with you!! you’re so real keep it so real ALL THE TIME 😭 and are a precious angel girl for your birthday month you should open a P.O. box you deserve love letters from all of us who loveeee uuuuu
The fasting stuff is tricky. For example a study on breast cancer patients, so women only, showed a lower recurrence of breast cancer in women who fasted for longer than 13 hours versus those who fasted less than 13 hours. More research needs to be done but I'm not willing to write off fasting. My digestion has improved, I've lost weight and I'm more intentional about my meals. That being said I don't do crazy long fasts, about 14-16 hrs.
yeah 13 hours is around what she said on the podcast i think!! :o bc she said stop eating around 6pm (lmao i will never) and then break the fast at around 7am would be 13 hours. i think its more on timing she was discussing? so not eating at midnight and then fasting all day the next day or something like that?? :o
TELL ME LIES IS ONE OF MY FAVE SHOWS! YOU ARE IN FOR AN INFURIATING BUT STUPIDLY ADDICTIVE ROLLERCOASTER RIDE! It’s wild how we base everything on men! There’s a whole book, ‘invisible women’, exploring the data insane bias. While I think there’s a place for living life a certain way based on advice like this, I also think it’s important to do what’s enjoyable and sustainable for you. Life is challenging enough without adding so many extra restrictions. As someone who already implements too many strict rules throughout my day, I’m gonna avoid the pod to save any further overwhelm phahaha!
The only people i listen to now when it comes to women's health is Noelle Kovary, CAMBRIA JOY (this lady helped me so much just from her videos alone - she shares everything!), and Dr. Cassie Huckaby. My gut, my hormones, energy levels, a LOT has improved just from these three angels. And i don't even implement everything they share because I can't afford it.
I highly recommend to women to learn about their hormonal cycle, because what intensity of work out you do on various times in your cycle also will affect your ability to build muscle (i.e if you lift weights at a certain phase in your cycle you are putting your body at more stress and it will release cortisol which will actually cause you to store fat and hinder building muscle) Cycle syncing
no because men literally just exist and raw dog life... smh 😅 but really every woman needs to be eating SOMETHING especially protein before having caffeine in the morning! Coffee is NOT breakfast. Even just a banana or 2 dates before a workout in the morning is better than nothing + you'll have more energy for your workout!
giiirrrrlll Dr. Stacy Sims is amazing she is also on Huberman Lab and I love her on The Flow State Podcast which is a podcast all about women's health and hormones. OBSESSED. Also its because women are different than men that we were excluded from research because our hormones make us anomalies. Its easier to remove the outlier than to accommodate them. Also her book ROAR is amazing okay ily I'm done.
I just watched that podcast! Being a women is so hard. We need more womens health awareness. Im so tired of doctors being confused about my health and whats going on with my body. Its been 6 years of not feeling my best and doctors just throw up their hands and say they are frustrated and cant help me. Im like... "youre frustrated?! How do you think i feel. Its your job as a doctor to figure out whats wrong." They even lie about sending me to specialists. They just refuse to help me. Its been a shot in the dark trying to figure out my health concerns. Im so over it.
The podcast you listened to reminded me of a book you might like! / get mad at lol it’s more revelations of how the world operates in a patriarchal way 😓 the book is Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men
Girl if you eat beef, switch to beef bacon. Dont eat that butterball crap it’s full of unnecessary shit and the way turkey is processed is honestly nasty.
I really enjoy your content, but have you ever considered the term “over consumption” ? Sometimes ignorance IS bliss. I want to just sit you down under a blanket and tell you that you CAN be healthy and happy and not follow every single regimen you hear on podcasts. ❤
I train with my cycle and I’m telling you it’s CHANGED my life. My period is so easy, muscles are growing and my recovery is very fast!!
Before changing, I would listen to her other podcasts - it seems like she is giving mixed messages. In one podcast she said she workouts in the morning, and to break her fast she would have an espresso shot with almond milk. This was from her podcast with Andrew Huberman.

soooo valid, I will listen to that one too thank you so much

I like to listen to my self help books as I'm unwinding at night. Lay in my bed and let the info seep in subliminally 😊
