Great video! Still can't believe they don't make the 50 to have all footswitch options! Just because someone wants a more compact combo amp doesn't mean we want to lose functionality.
There are many after market footswitches that will open up all those options. And for $250 Brand new and all the options and different sounds you can get with this amp and the sound quality, there's gonna be SOMETHING they sacrifice. Question is, WHY did they decide to sacrifice THIS. So dumb.
Today I found the UNI-V effect in Tone Studio and realized how absolutely amazing it would be to have the rate set to 0, the depth set to 100, and the level connected to an expression pedal. I want to use it for an intro riff now, and use the pedal while doing a slow fretboard slide. It makes a wicked awesome sound :D
Haha thanks, he’s a cutie. If you’re looking for a footswitch for the katana 50 you could also check out the AIRSTEP katana which has more features than this :)
@@GuitarZero2Hero Thanks for mentioning the airstep pedal. I'm still on fender tube amps with stompboxes, but I would like the functionality of the Katana for live situations, or at least to try it out. Cheers!
That mode is for when you want to just step on the pedal for the duration of the effect you want. It's a cool function for stage use, very useful if you know how to use it. From what I've seen anyways.
Hey Victor, since this video there’s been a new product called the AIRSTEP katana which works better than these options, I’ve reviewed it recently so search YT and you should see it :)
@@GuitarZero2Hero Indeed, I checked out the AIRSTEP Kat and it's an interesting choice. I've recently bought a Katana 50 mk2 ex mostly because of the small size, the outputs and the GA-FC EX compatibility, but the AIRSTEP Kat beats it in price, and maybe in some features like bluetooth connectivity and the apps. Will take some time to consider which pedal suits me better. And thank you for answering (You've got a subscriber)
Nice video! Do you know what other alternatives to the FS-6 also work? I just got a VOX FS2A and it switches between banks within one channel, but it's not working as expected when trying to switch between Channel A and B, even tho it's just a simple A-B pedal. Trying to find out if I can sort it.
Hi. Thanks for the video. It convinced me to get a Katana 50 MKII and FS-6 combo (now purchased!). I'm wondering if I can I link a BOSS DS-1 with the FS-6 daisy-chain style? Or do I need to keep the FS-6 connected to the amp separately? Much appreciation if you can advise. I can't seem to see an answer anywhere online.
The FS-6 will be connected to the amp seperately :) for your DS-1 you'll go - guitar > DS-1 > amp. And the FS-6 will be plugged into the back of the amp.
@@GuitarZero2Hero I've only now found your reply as I have some free time to get back to guitar and had bookmarked your video to watch again. Thanks a million for your response. Can i use the footswitch fs 6 to change the 4 channel settings even if the computer is not available? So basically change with stored 4 channel on the amp
@@GuitarZero2Hero So for teaching Guitar, the boss is probably better too as well right? The spark costs a little more in Australia i believe. Probably going for boss.
It’s easier to tweak your tone with spark because you have the mobile app. With katana you’ll need to connect to a PC/Mac to really tweak the chain but there’s probably greater flexibility once you do. Katana probably better as an all rounder as it can crank to 50W and has. 12” speaker. The spark sounds amazing but probably wouldn’t be good if you’re playing with a band
Hi Dave -- I'm asking for your kind assistance. I've purchased a Valeton expression pedal and I assigned (1 example) "Pedal Bend". It gets close to the Tom Morello effect. This is with Boss Katana Tone Studio or Katana Librarian through a Katana 50 MkII. Currently using an Airstep Kat by Xsonic. However it seems that Librarian (and Boss Tone Studio) overrides the Airstep and I can't turn it on or off via fx footswitch, unless I turn off "Pedal fx" on the Librarian or BTS screen. Any solution please? Should I be looking at a "Hot Key" option or what? Roland is trying to guide me towards an EV-5 or EV-30, as if that would be a solution? To your knowledge does the Valeton pedal have the appropriate polarity (0 results on Web search)? Many thanks in anticipation of your advice. Best, Ian Pettigrew Co Wicklow Republic of Ireland
What if I get some kind of cable divider to plug both pedal and foot switch? Although for trs cables it could be hard to get in a shop but maybe i could ask some electrical service to make it, do you think both devices would work?
In the promo video for the katana 50 mk2 on the boss website, the guy playing guitar looks like he's using a pedal that has footswitches and an expression pedal. I wonder which one that is...
If they are just latch mode, you could hypothetically cycle thru all four settings with a single switch. Shorting tip-ring-sleeve would be one setting, Shorting tip-sleeve another, tip-ring a third, shorting none a fourth. Doubt there’s a stomp switch that does this

Agree. I don't need 100w, but I'd like the bigger switches and effects loop. Killer amp for $175 though
I had no clue the features of the 50 were more limited than the 100. I thought only the wattage was the difference. Thanks!
