It's a bit meaningless to call everyone above average body fat percentage obese, it should give them predictions about their health, not just a scary label. It's like calling everyone with above 100 IQ a genius.
Factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, and muscle mass can influence the relationship between BMI and body fat. Also, BMI does not distinguish between excess fat, muscle, or bone mass, nor does it provide any indication of the distribution of fat among individuals.
It's accurate. Asians tend to store body fat differently (visceral fat - in organs) from Westerners (subcutaneous fat - the visible fat you see under your skin), so a skinny looking Asian can be prone to all sorts of obesity-related diseases. Asians also have lower BMIs/weights in general. We use different BMI and medical ranges compared to Westerners. Asia has the highest % of obesity-related diseases like diabetes in the world, so it's important to be vigilant.
Since I'm not a doctor, I can't explain the exact reason, but I found out some info from the Korean Medical article site. Western standards for obesity are BMI 30 kg/㎡, but in Korean standards for obesity are BMI 25 kg/㎡. The reason why the standards are different is that Asians are more likely to have a red flag in their health than Westerners when their BMI is 25kg/m².
For asian people, being over 50 kilos is considered obese anyway lol. I know even slim people can have a high body fat, but it's wrong to use the term obese.
I don't understand, Narae looks like an average weight. I know we can't measure this by just looking, but... I wonder if her fat is that high? Or, the measurements in Korea is especially strict?
asians have different BMI ranges. usually the normal range would go to 24.9 but in asia it's only up to 22.9 so while they might look normal to others, in asia it's alrd considered overweight/obese. thats just how it is
This had me laughing so hard ! Please learn to be happier with yourself and healthy ! Society exerts pressure on in my opinion maintaining an all too thin appearance where some actually look sick. Obese is a nasty sounding word which is thrown around too often!
My BMI also says overweight. I am 145 cm tall and weight about 54 kg. Ideally, I am supposed to be 45 kg (based on my height) which is difficult because I enjoy eating food. But, I don't call myself obese but I am definitely fat for my body type.
5 months after this episode we still see the three of them eating and drinking excessively and obsessively. Its like the show is intent on sending the wrong message to the audience.
@@kcheese1428 that's not correct tho, with this height she would be in the obese range only after going past 66kg, till then she's considered overweight by the bmi standards
@@azas680Asian and Korean systems use a different BMI NOT for beauty standards (their governments and medical institutions aren't that stupid!) but because Asians get diseases like diabetes at much lower weights. It's partly to do with how Asians store visceral vs subctaneous fat differently from Westerners. When I moved to the UK I would bring a letter from my home country (Singapore) advising doctors of the different health metrics back home, for someone of my ethnicity.

None of these people look obese. How accurate is this testing? I feel like something is off.
They are using BMI
Its accurate,, its not korean standard

Do you think obesity is based only on appearance???
No one can be perfect. Just eat well, exercise and be healthy. No perfect weight or size
But... in order to be healthy, there is perfect weight or size...
Terrible advice
Sorry but weighting about 150 kg for example isn't healthy
@@evelynbeck5277 that's why I said be healthy. Everybody should know what is healthy for them. Of course 150kg is not good for anyone
They're measuring the body fat percentage which is something we can't see with our naked eyes. Hence the result. It's normal and accurate.
Does SK use a different BMI standard from the rest if the world? I thought they would be overweight at most, not obese.

Hmmm since Jang woo works out, shouldn't his body fat percentage be normal? (unless the work out he does is not related lol)
Hmm no
Yeah but if you eat more than you work out then …

She has a lot of viscéral fat it seems
Maybe is both options
I don't think medically it's strict but maybe because the average weight for Asian women is much less than other ethnics

Obese is just a medical term, it’s just an insecurity if someone is offended by that. Obese or underweight are both not healthy.
It's nothing to do with appearance, this is a medical check up.
Are you d.mb Bro????
Google said BMI standard is different in different countries.
How can that 182cm guy obese? not overweight but obese ... how? What kind of BMI is this...
In korea we dont differentiate overweight and obese too much unlike us
I think based on the video it said that he's obese (5:47) according to body fat percentage (not BMI) but overweight based on BMI (5:56)
Asian tends to have higher fat percentage than westerners even though we look slim
We all eat deliciously!!!
그래 나도 기계를 믿지 않는다. 나래는 과체중이 아니다

I think like obese is cuz her height and bmi … that’s why else being health is all matters
Is this Korean standard or worldwide?
Worldwide
OBESE? THEY LOOK ALRIGHT.
Bmi range is different for asians than the standard one
Standard one is used in America and other countries
I think this only applies to south korea. I googled south korean BMI and their normal BMI is around our underweight. So definitely not asian thing.
3 of them = 1 fat size model
Is different country have different obese BMI? Just curious 🤔

aha i hate seeing korean weight standards so much... i still clicked this video because i love the show though
Its not korean standard thi ,, its worldwide BMI , narae 148.7 cm means if her weight more than 55.3 kg then she's consider obese ,
