@tantris3 Thanks for your comment. I admit I have no sufficient knowledge on Wagner nor I have known much about Spas Wenkoff but I find him an amazing dramatic singer and actor. His Tannhäuser is incredibly realistic, a true dramatic achievment.
Hard to call anything Wagner "realistic." But while many can sing Wagner melodramatically, Wenkoff certainly stood out among all. He was actually EXPRESSIVE.
absolutely for me the greatest Wagnerian Tenor. Lyrical expressive strong dramatic voice. I have the magnificent Tannhauser DVD with Gwyneth Jones a marvelous Elizabeth /Venus and Spas Wenkopf an incredible Tannhauser --possibly the greatest --Stands withh Melchior
I was never impressed with his singing. But the first time I ever heard him, my reaction was that he had the most impressive natural vocal endowment, as a tenor, since Melchior. Not much to accompany it, in terms of beauty of singing or insight as an actor. That was a Metropolitan Opera broadcast of Tristan in '81, and I've heard nothing from him since until this clip. This clip is a lot better than that broadcast was.
Welch ein guter Sänger! Ein sehr beeindruckender Parsifal. Klarer verständlicher Gesang und ein sehr gutes Dirigat! Bravo! ❤❤❤

The best Wagner tenor EVER!
Beautiful, energetic, robust...he is so underrated! Kaufmann is nothing with this. And his records are unbelievably scarce!!

Marvellous Spas Wenkoff! Thank you, amlirco, for this one!

He would've made a great Siegmund.
He made a great Siegmund. And a great Siegfried, Tristan, Tannhäuser, Walther, Lohengrin and all of the great Verdi spinto roles.
You mean "Erbarm dich mein!"? "Erbarmen! " = Amfortas in "Parsifal"
