      I tried it but this grey paper would turn a bit greenish so I gave up on the idea. But that will certainly work well with other types of paper and probably even get a stronger texture. Gotta try more things

I have been a subscriber since the cactus planter a couple years ago and find your videos equally relaxing and intoxicating. Thanks so much for kindly sharing part of your life and adventure. : )

    One suggestion if you don't mind. When you heat a metal (any) to change shape and then leave to cool down naturally it becomes soft. Try to cool down fast by water so it stays hard. You need this parts to hold some weight so I suggest to cool it down with water or oil.

    Já agora, um aparte, e em jeito de brincadeira,e acima de tudo, respeito. quando dá uma martelada num dedo, o que vem primeiro? o bom FODASSE Português, ou 1 FUCK do outro lado do atlântico? ;-) Obrigado, e não me leve a mal.
    Cumprimentos,
    Pedro Dias, Bragança

    • @GetHandsDirty
      @GetHandsDirty  6 років тому

      Olá Pedro, ahahaha ora bem, uma F*dasse nunca seria, mas antes um F*da-se ihihihihi, mas por acaso depende da situação se vem asneira em português ou inglês :) Curioso, tenho família em Bragança. E nem eu consigo encontrar as ferramentas cá, no país...praticamente tudo o que tenho comprei na amazon.es, na dictum.com, fine-tools.com ou workshopheaven.com (todos europeus - sem taxas de alfândega) ou então foram cedidos pelas marcas em modo de patrocínio. O nosso país não tem tradição de hobby de carpintaria/marcenaria como têm outros países (EUA, Reino Unido, Alemanha, etc) e portanto, não há lojas que vendam esta tralha toda, infelizmente. E quanto à língua materna, o motivo principal para a escolha do inglês foi a inevitabilidade de apenas saber o vocabulário em inglês por ter aprendido tudo exactamente aqui, no UA-cam, a ver e ouvir outros makers criar os seus projetos e pela pesquisa em fóruns e artigos internacionais. Não sei como se chama quase nada do que tenho nem técnicas que utilizo, em português...e estou em crer que nem existe tradução para muitas coisas mais recentes - ferramentas, engenhos, acessórios... Enfim, obrigada pelo apoio e espero que continues a visualizar!
      Bô, já se faz munte tarde, bou-me à cama :P

    If you can find copper plate; that will carve easier than brass and copper will hold the fine serifs just fine. In the printing industry we make copper plates for letterpress and emboss work and if we need a plate to stand up to 200,000 impressions we go with brass and if we need a plate for unlimited use we go with brass with a chrome plating. I worked with encyclopedia printing early in my career and a set of foil-embossing dies came in that were brass with chrome plating; they were a thing of beauty. As a child we had two platen presses for printing 1/C (one color) cards and letter heads and stationery. You should go to an engraver house in Porto and ask where you can find an embosser company. Go to that company and get a butt role of silver or gold stamping foil or if not just some sheets of the stuff and then you can put that foil over the emboss area and dress up the image. Run paper or cover stock that is a little on the thick side for good impression. Some presses had a heated die bed that would release the foil better.

    That was wonderful to watch. I'm currently making embossing folders that are up to 30x40 cm wide. That is pretty big and up to now I haven't had completely satisfactory results in a roll press, a laundry wringer, a book press or an A3 embosser. But I have a theory that if I make sturdy wooden frames held tightly together with screws and hinges that I will be able to feed the structure through one of the rolling presses. I now want to make a hydraulic press... but it does look very hard and you'd actually have to put an enormous amount of pressure on A3 size embossing plates. But it's a great design and I want one!

    How much ton is this hydraulik krik?

  • @nachtschimmen
    @nachtschimmen Рік тому

    Wow! I developed a method to make embossing folders to press in any standard press...but my enthusiasm for pressing paper like this came from a little metal embossing press I had made with my name on it years ago. Seeing you going through the inventing process designing a similar machine, i.e. a push press, was just amazing for me. So the little die has to be a little bit larger? How much larger? I'm only asking this because what I do to make embossing folders... and I've made hundreds of them, is to engrave into a relatively soft surface and then make a mould of that surface... and then a mould of the mould. I make these two surfaces afterwards into the embossing folder which you can run through a machine. Thanks so much!

    Cris, como de hábito, execução e capricho impecáveis. A respeito do clichê macho e fêmea, creio que se você, no caso de não querer pôr em risco sua fresa, ou seu bloco de latão (seu dito "brass" aqui, no BR latão, não sei a denominação aí em PT), poderia também usar soluções usadas na indústria gráfica para essa situação do alto relevo ("embossing"). Clichês (macho e fêmea) de zinco, obtidos a partir de filmes da arte-final, em processo de erosão química, são baratos e proporcionam uma qualidade de detalhe altíssima. Uma outra opção são os clichês confeccionados em Nyloprint, que são uma resina sintética, obtidos por processo foto-químico, e também proporcionam uma ótima fidelidade de detalhe. Creio que levem vantagem sobre o Corian e o Latão, tanto em termos de custo, quanto em termos de durabilidade, e também por serem menos vulneráveis do que os materiais em questão, pois não são usinados - não há retirada de material, e, por conseguinte, a superfície resultante fica menos frágil e mais íntegra. Fica a dica. Crio que a indústria gráfica hoje disponha também de outras alternativas para a obtenção do alto-relevo. Você aumenta seu leque de opções. Saudações.
