Whitney, I may not be ready to tackle men’s pants yet but you sure make it look so easy! Especially the fly zipper. At least I have this video to reference when I am ready. Thanks for another well done video!😊
Oh my goodness, so informative! As usual, I’ve learned a lot. I have a husband, 2 grown son’s and a 5 yo grandson and 15 yo grandson to sew for, you have inspired me greatly with these videos of you sewing for your son. You say these are “sew alongs” but they are much more than that. Thank you for bringing us along.
I really like this style of welt pocket. When do they use this style vs the one with the two narrow strips like the vest or the Upland trousers? Hmm, I suppose this is considered a single welt?
I think it just depends on the style you're going for. I think this type stays closed better while sitting and standing unless you have a button in the back.
Thanks, Whitney, for all the great information! Could you provide a link to the blue fabric you are using for the pants. I can’t wait to see all these outfits in action in Italy.
This is the fabric: www.minerva.com/mp/1234303/robert-kaufman-jetsetter-stretch-woven-cotton-twill-fabric-blue-grass&variant=1234289 . It doesn't look like they have this color anymore, but they do have quite a few other colors!
They are great looking pants! Quick question….on the welt pocket- did you stitch the two triangle side pieces down before closing up the pocket bag? Don’t know if I missed it or if you didn’t bother…. Just curious.
That was very interesting and informative. I am curious how you measure men for pants. I would like to make my husband a pair of pants but I’m always concerned if there are particulars in measuring with their junk or is it not an issue. Sorry for how I phrased that. Also do you measure their hips like women do? Thanks.
😂😂😂 This comment had me giggling! I just measured his hips (at the fullest part like women) and his natural waist. While these don't sit at the natural waist (they sit below), the size chart still uses the natural waist. The pattern has been drafted for me so it has extra room in the crotch curve for their parts. This might be an area you'll have to alter, like in female pants, but it's not too much different.

I didn't have this issue with his, but usually, when the pockets aren't laying flat it can be due to a couple of things. First, it might be that it's just a bit snug in the hip/butt and that pulling across that area is causing the pockets to flare out. This can be fixed with just adding a bit more to the seam allowances in this area to give yourself just a bit more room. The second that it might be is that the rise is a bit too long. It's hard to say without seeing pictures of the pants on your body, but it could be that you need to shorten the rise either in the front only, or in the front and back. If the rise is too long at that side seam it will cause the pocket opening to bunch up a bit. I hope this helps!
Crazy non-sewing question…what is hanging from you ceiling behind you…cord goes into the ceiling and something hanging from the center….sorry….just a teensy mosey….now back to your teaching….thank you
It has been so useful to watch you assemble the welt pocket and the fly zipper. Finally, I think that I’m starting to get it. Thank you Whitney !
Oh good!
That is such a useful tip to work out how many stitches make up small distances
I do a lot of counting when I'm doing welts 😂.
I love your fly technique!! It makes the whole process seem more intuitive. Thank you.❤
Oh good! This is the way I go all my zip fly installations!
Love the chatty sew with me’s! Thanks for this!!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
The pants fit Jack perfectly! The zip fly and pocket tutorials are greatly appreciated.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Welt pockets: Whitney, you released a fear from within. Thank you. The finished trousers fit just right. Good going! ~ L
Yay! I love the read this!

Oh good! I hope you try at some point!
Yes! Sew alongs ahead.😊
I've got 3 on the horizon!

Great job. I will be attempting to save this video for my next fly zipper insertion!
Oh good!
Great tutorial on the fly zipper. Thanks Whitney. You’re really getting through that pile of sewing you need for June 🤓🏴
I'm so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I am slowly making my way through this giant pile of sewing 😂.
Great looking pair of pants for your son. I just did a watch along as all my sewing things are packed away for trip back to Virginia.
I hope you travel safely back home!
This video is SO helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Those look great on him!! I need to practice my welts!

Seersucker?. Awesome. That's what I came here for! Seersucker chino shorts.
Yay!❤️❤️❤️

@@TomKatStitchery Thank you so much, Whitney.
Quick question: is it possible to hem a men’s tailored shirt with a coverstitch machine (all those curves on a woven fabric…) ?
I'm sure you could.
They are great looking pants! Quick question….on the welt pocket- did you stitch the two triangle side pieces down before closing up the pocket bag? Don’t know if I missed it or if you didn’t bother…. Just curious.
Oops! I should have shown that better! The triangles got caught up when I closed up the sides of the pocket bag.

Hi Whitney! Where did you purchase the main fabric?

I love Wardrobe by me patterns for myself. I need to find me a husband to make the men ones lol
This is great to hear! I've only made their men's patterns so it sounds like I need to try their other ones as well!
Is there a video for the front pockets???
This is the only video I did for these pants. Sorry about that!
Do you happen to have the issue of the pockets flaring out? I used the same pattern and in my right size, put my front pockets don’t lay flat 😭
I didn't have this issue with his, but usually, when the pockets aren't laying flat it can be due to a couple of things. First, it might be that it's just a bit snug in the hip/butt and that pulling across that area is causing the pockets to flare out. That's my gravity fed iron! The water tank hangs from the ceiling and that's what feeds the water to the iron for the steam!
Too much talking! Lost me before you got to the good stuff
Sorry about that!
