  • Chasing my "Bumblebeebutt" finding a neon nebula.
    I'm using TLP Neon pigments hiding them under black to reveal that glow. It isn't going easier. It's cold in my studio and the paints are lazy and thick. Oh well... Thanks for being here!
    Come and learn how to do this!
    My classes are half sold out already!!!! And there's 6 more months to go!
    I will be back at the Fluidartexperience in May of 2024 this time in Asheville, NC !!!!
    You can get your tickets now and take advantage of the discounted hotel rates on the FAE homepage!!!
    The last event was such a fun experience, I can hardly wait to do this again!

    I think that is so very cool, Jessica. You developed a number of air pockets that simply popped when torching it. The torch alone cannot produce bubbles. The effect is quite stunning, though. ❤

      @WinterStromArt  4 місяці тому

      Sure. That’s what I was thinking. The big guys are obvious but the teeny tiny ones in the end made me think. You don’t even see them before you torch, they pop and hundreds new ones appear. That was new to me

    A good way to warm up your paint without worry is to fill up a baking pan or some other type of container about an inch with warm water and then set the paints (capped, of course) in the water for a few minutes. This makes me want to show you the piece I did the other day; these two could be siblings, lol!
    Thank you so much for all of the information you give during your pours. It really helps those of us who AREN'T Jessica Winterstrom to figure out how to get the best outcomes.

    Auf einem Bild wie diesem braucht das Auge nichts zum Wandern. Den Betrachter wird fesseln, dass es so unglaublich leuchtet und Tiefe hat. Der Betrachter wird mit der Nasenspitze anstoßen beim Versuch herauszufinden, wie Du dieses fcking Leuchten hinbekommen hast.
    Ich liebe es, dass man mit wenigen Faben die Illusion von Licht erzeugen kann. ❤

    With this one the use of the torch works really well. I commented on your live video from last week that I thought the torch created the bubbles in my experience. It looks really cool in this one. If you go for the galaxy feel this is it.
    I don't know what mixing cups you use but I threw away the ones that are not completely smooth inside. Bubbles will appear more easily in the ones that has those tiny ridges inside.

    Jess- I mix my primary element powders in a sm amt of polycrylic and then add GEL MEDIUM. A small amount...
    Slowly and make a thick slurry .
    The polycrylic and gel medium breakdown the primary elements best w a little water added to the above concoction. Some powders need more binder. The polycrylic works as such.
    The gel gloss medium really works well for me. Lmk .

    I wanted to ask about the paint thickness. It’s very cold here as well and my paints get so dang thick. I add varnish but it doesn’t seem to work and I don’t want to add water. In fact I’ve used so much varnish, it’s dulled the colors. You had mentioned a heating pad - has that worked for you? Thanks for sharing your very beautiful art, Jessica.

    • @WinterStromArt
      @WinterStromArt  4 місяці тому

      I had success warming the paints up. Be careful though, warm them slow and not too hot. Just a few degrees does the difference. A water bath or just storing them in a warmer room helps too

    So enjoyed watching this pour and it turned out so cool! Think maybe you are right about the torch, but wow! Thank you for all your inspiration. Would you mind telling me what you do to finish your paintings? Do you resin or varnish? If you varnish, what brand do you suggest? Thanks in advance.

    Jess how long do you let the black coat and activator sit after u mix them?
    Add a little water and it will help pop your bubbles.
    Let them sit open to air.
    My theory is your paints are too bubbly.
    Bubbles!

    • @WinterStromArt

    Hey Jessica so you were talking about your pigments the difference between the two is synthetic and real most of your tlps are synthetic that's the only way to get the bling and who doesn't love The Bling LOL if you go on any website and you see the pigments they are very matte and when you say you're having trouble dispersing because of the bubbles I mostly use m i c a s but I have both and I'm assuming you disperse them in the varnish which is perfectly fine I add as little amount as I can to be able to fold it into a paste but not a thick paste you definitely want to have it moving but the key is very slow stirring almost folding I still get the bubbles because of the reaction between the two and what I do when I'm finished I put a tight lid on the pigment depending if I'm going to use it right away and I slam it down or drop it full force making sure it lands on its bottom still it forces the bubbles up and out.. always fold never Stir .. fold it you will have but a few if any bubbles there is a new product out by Benjamin Moore paints I was going to not say anything but I just adore you too much haha Benjamin Moore I don't know if you've heard of them but they're as big as Glidden if not bigger they've been around a lot longer they have what's considered equivalent to floetrol it's called extender because they have a new line of wall paint made out of acrylic only the line is called waterborne paint this extender is made for acrylics only and just between you and me haha I use that with my Amsterdam paint and you should see the cells that pop up from out of nowhere I also use it to thin my paints it extends the dry time of acrylics it's great for dispersing and I use that only with Amsterdam paint and if it needs a little thickening Iadd the gel gloss and oh my goodness, the reason I can say this is because I made cell activator out of pigment and the extender and it dissolves almost instantly I know you probably don't want to add anything to your already perfect recipe. Some pigments are just harder to disperse than others if you want to see some absolutely gorgeous and perfectly smooth textured and easy to mix pigments go to madmicas.com .so affordable.. I have done Mega research on m i c a s because I am making my own chameleons and I have learned so much still have a ways to go though but the simple way is just folding it in not stirring once they are completely wet then you fold it it won't disturb it so much sorry about this very long-winded message I got excited because this is right up my alley I have made my own version of Abalone unicorn and a few others and it takes certain kinds of ingredients in the micas so that it won't bleed and change colors all the way around I apologize about my writing as well I hope it helps even a tiny bit and believe it or not most of the tlps they make most excellent cell activators you can't believe how easy they disperse in the Aussie floetrol just a bit added gel gloss l to thicken it up a tad actually helps to produce more cells if you never have questions you probably know more than I do but sometimes two heads are better than one you can reach out to me on Facebook but I'm sure you got this girl.. and by the way absolutely gorgeous painting❤

    I made a big mistake. I got a gallon of semi-gloss, deep base, and I had them put a little white in it. BIG MISTAKE. All the paint does is bleed all of my colors. Is there any hope for this gallon? Or do I need to buy another gallon with no white? It is Valspar Signature brand. Anyone??? help??!!!

    • @WinterStromArt
      @WinterStromArt  4 місяці тому

      I’m not familiar with valspar. You can use it for colors that have white in them. Use it for pastelly colors like baby blue or pink. You can mix it with a magenta to get a pink or a blue/green to make a teal color.
