2:45 Snape redirects McGonagall's spells at the other two Death Eaters. Snape is the unsung hero. He continued to help to the very end and he accepted being labeled the villain in order to do good.
He looks so sadly surprised when Minerva faces him, he even lowers his wand for a second. He looks so heart-broken when Minerva fires that first volley. What a deeply tragic character and what impeccable acting.
If you pay close attention as well, you'll notice that he deflects her spells just before he leaves so that they take out the Carrow siblings. Fan theory is that he did this on purpose, so that he could make sure the students were in safe hands before departing from the school. If that's true, superb work by both the actors and the director to add that in.
keffypoo it's because it reminds him that another woman had stepped in front of Harry 16 years ago and wouldn't let voldwmort kill him. McGonagall's actions reminded Snape of how lily guarded harry from voldemort.
Yes, this is the moment he knows that he has for certain lost the respect that McGonagall once had for him, that everyone sees him as the true villain, and that he knows he won't get to explain to them why he did it.
+Rosie Tibbs I was just thinking about this today. I hated so many of the deaths (Fred's keeps tearing me apart), but I'm glad McGonagall and the rest of the staff survived.
+Rosie Tibbs If She would have been killed there would have been two major uproars in HP fan universe...the first being with Snape of course...To put it mildly I would have been enraged to find both character that I am fond of get killed for no apparent reason...moving on, Minerva seemed to view Severus as a sort of son...personally I always saw Snape as McGonagall, and Dumbledore's unofficial adopted son...hence the anguish in her voice at the end of this clips where she calls out to Snape after he leaves...perhaps she knew it was the last time she would see "her son". He still died for nothing!
+Rosie Tibbs why? she may be however good, but she, along with everyone else, even though they proclaimed themselves "loyal to Dumbledore", considered Dumbledore to be a senile gullible braindead idiot that can be easily fooled. Minerva worked with Albus for 40 years and she did not recognise his geniality, not even in the books did anyone stop and even start to think that maybe there is more to that than it seems. not unexpected, but utterly disappointing that they all just wrote Albus off as an old fool that got deceived ...
If I was Snape, I don't know how I could stay sane. Having to act like Dumbledore dying was a good thing. The love of my life long gone. Her son in danger 24/7 whilst believing that he was evil.
I always assumed he was a bit psycho in the books. Pining after someone he never dated in the first place, refusing to move on years after, acting like a sadist to children... all traits of a psychologically messed up person. If Lilly had stayed alive then he probably would have ended up stalking her or something equally scary. He's one of those people that creates a fake Facebook account just to follow an ex they can't get over! God forbid Snape discovered the internet! I think casting Alan Rickman made people feel more sorry for him in the movies (Rickman's awesomeness gave Snape extra cool factor), but before seeing Snape on film I just assumed he was nuts. Minerva, on the other hand... totally badass witch! McLovin' it!
I would listen to "Bitches Ain't Shit" by Dr. Dre, get a better haircut, visit a dentist, hit the gym, bang a few Hogsmeade hoes, and realize that centering my life around protecting my childhood bully's son is not a good way to live.
but when said childhood bullys son is the only way to kill the man who killed the woman you loved for all your life that may well change things a little
blake niszczot Snape did fought back in the books and they had an awesome duel. Minerva put up a good fight in the books and even made Snape flee. Minerva is no push over. She has been teaching at Hogwarts ever since Snape was young.
+Juan Salinas No he didn't he flew unaided . Something only two wizards had ever done, the other being Voldemort. You can't apparate within Hogwarts. If you had read 'Hogwarts: A History' you'd know that.
Ellie Wilson I'm well aware that Snape can fly unaided. But they're not the only 2; Bellatrix, fenrir, and a few other death eaters are also known practitioners. Furthermore, the headmaster of any given school is able to lift the anti-apparation spell as stated by Dumbledore in HBP. Though he flew out a window in the novel as he fought off 3 or 4 adversaries, the screenplay for the film says specifically that he apparated backwards.
Not only did Snape redirect the spells to the death eaters, he also picked up their wands while he was leaving to make sure they couldn't harm any students anymore. A true hero who deserved a much better life than he had.
He never fired a harmful spell at her, they were all defensive in responding to her. And when he split the one and took out the two bad teachers/death eaters.
+DesperateLion why did you have to go and say that. i'm not given to "feelings" but for some reason, his death hit me like I lost my own kin, and I'm not even a potter fan. i don't know why but it makes me exceedingly sad to think on it.
+shakaama As awful as it feels right now, grief is a necessary part of coming to terms with the loss of one you loved/respected. When people say "RIP," they are saying it to show both respect and grief. It may always make you sad to be reminded, but if you accept that you need to grieve, you can be patient with yourself, and time will heal the wound to where, although it will still hurt sometimes, you'll also be able to remember him fondly, and enjoy his brilliant work without becoming "exceedingly sad."
What's really amazing about it is that Snape was only about 30-40 years old (same age as Harry's parents after all, and he doesn't have the excuse Remus, Sirius and Pettigrew have of having aged prematurely because of the harsh conditions of their lives) and you still totally believe Rickman's performance. Despite the fact that he must have been around 60. He made Snape this kind of ageless figure.
Rickman was an absolutely fantastic actor, someone who seemed to make others love theatre the more they understood and the more they look for details. May his incredible performance continue ever after...
@@TKGriffiths I don't think characters in films were the same age as they were in the books, I think they made all Maradeurs and Lily older from the very start
honestly, the fact Snape intentionally incapacitates the two death eaters behind him with a deflection so they cant fight back after he leaves is one of the most brilliantly subtle details that makes me love these films.
I love how when Snape brings out his wand everybody gasps but when Mcgonagall steps forever everybody screams and backs up! Students be like "Oh look Snape's pis- OH SHIT MCGONAGALL'S MAD MOVE IT!"
Because when Snape pulled his wand, everyone be like, "Gasp, he's going to kill them." And when Mcgonagall steps up with her wand drawn, everyone was like, "Everyone back, they're going to dual."
Alexis Alonso Not to mention when Snape pulls his wand on Harry, then McGonagall pushes him out the way Snape hesitates and looks a little worried, clearly thinking "Right Potter's for it now- Oh... McGonagall... Shit..."
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD My gosh, you really made me laugh remembering that scene and then comparing her in this film. I love Mcgonagall, she is such an awsome character, and easily one of the most powerful witches from the Harry Potter universe. I honestly think only Dumbledore and Voldemort could be stronger than her.
i reckon Snape would have beaten her if he wasn't trying to save her from getting her arse destroyed in this battle.... she was going for the attack he didn't want to harm her and he still managed to deflect her blasts at the death eaters hes a boss :P
Abhay His life doesn't excuse his horrible behavior. It's true, he's a hero and a brave man, but that doesn't makes him any less of the horrible person he's been to anyone not called Lilly Potter
Juan Manuel Suarez Olave I think it was a part of his cover as well. He'd look suspicious if he started handing out lollipops to the Gryffindors. He was also nice and caring to his house.Especially to Malfoy
Abhay Except that he was a grown adult by the time we meet him and the characters were eleven-seventeen. He had a horribly abusive upbringing, and was bullied and treated terribly all his life, but he was never taught how to function well as an adult, and he in turn became abusive and terrible on his students. He never should have been allowed to teach young students, and it says volumes about Dumbledore's priorities that he was willing to allow those kids to suffer and ignore Snape's internal demons.
I feel bad for Snape in this scene. You could see how hurt he was when Harry was going on about Dumbledore and shit and then McGonagall calling him a coward when he only left so he wouldn't blow his cover. Had he really been the bad guy he'd have been able to annihilate McGonagall easily.
Snape's thoughts must have been pretty interesting. "Alright, Harry is somewhere here. This is a REALLY bad time, but if I can find him I can set him straight and make sure he's safe- Oh. Oh there he is! Ok, act cool Snape. Gotta keep lookin' evil. Damn, he brough friends. It's fine, it's fine. I'll just disarm Harry, flashbang those idiots behind him, and bring him to my office. Oh shit what is Minerva doing? Minerva no. No. Shit she's attacking me. Pew pew, pew. Oh my god STOP. This ain't looking good, I won't be able to grab Harry like this. Oh, an obvious shot at my chest, let me just split this into two and wreck the two mates behind me. Yoink. Haha, double kill. Alright this is bullshit, I'm out."
People need to stop valorizing Snape at every categories, even JK Rowling said he was not a hero at all. Snape's blind and deaf fandom have to stop. This is getting ridiculous.
Carmen Serdaigle What JK Rowling says doesn't matter, she's the author but it's still an opinion of her. Snape was bullied all his life and lost the woman he'd loved more than anything, yet instead of giving up on life he selflessly protected Harry time and time again. What is getting ridiculous, is the number of people who think he was pissed because he couldn't get Lily and that what he did didn't take courage or strength.
HEEEEEEELL YEAAAAAAAHHH!!!!! McGonagall is just BADASS! She's one of my favorite HP characters, besides Dobby, Dumbledore, Hermione, Hagrid, and of course, the Chosen One himself, Undesirable Number One, the legendary Boy Who Lived, HARRY POTTER!!!!
Oho yeah. You notice everyone doesn't run screaming until she comes out? "Oh no, Snape's gonna do somethi- OH CRAP MAYDAY MAYDAY MCGONAGALL IS MAD RUN"
+nohomers100 I have to disagree with you, You are forgetting a Wizard by the name of Gellert Grindelwald, the man who Dumbledore stated to be nearly equal to him. Also, Voldemort at his full power, with most of his souls should be slightly above Dumbledore. I'd rank Snape the 4th greatest wizard of all time, you just can't dismiss Gellert Grindelwald accomplishments. Under Snape I'd rank McGonagall #5
Grindelwald is stated to have claimed at least Romania under his rule, and built a prison so severely unescapable he himself was imprisioned until his death. So in my rank is: Tom Riddle Jr., Godric Griffindor, Albus Dumbledore, Gellert Grindelwald, Salazar Slytherin, Harry Potter, Rowena Ravenclaw, Minerva McGonagall, Helga Hufflepuff, Kingsley Shackerbolt and Rufus Scrimgeour.
It was horrible how Snape couldn't tell everyone that it was what dumbledore wanted. How sad Snape actually was when he killed Dumbledore. He was hesitant and only did it because Dumbledore was his friend and the only person in the wizarding world who trusted him. R.I.P Professor Severus Snape. R.I.P Alan Rickman 1946- 2016
Its been 6 years so idk if you’ll read this but there is a theory that Dumbledore actually survived Avada Kedavra because Snape didn’t mean it and that it was the fall that actually killed him.
Ik I’m late but when you think about it dumbledore was kinda evil he wanted for Harry to be killed because he was the final horcrux and it was all leading up to that moment since James and lilys death
ElacerionMusic That's a good point, actually. I don't see how McGonagall was any less trustworthy than Snape. I guess chalk it up to Dumbledore's tendency to play his cards very close to his chest?
gentlemancoates I think it probably has to do with keeping as many people in the dark as possible. We don't know how well McGonagall knew Occlumency. On the off chance that Voldemort were to use Legilimency on her, he might discover that Snape was a double agent. That would not only effectively end Snape's life, but might end any chances of defeating Voldemort in general. That's my theory, anyway.
Melissa Sartin Oh yeah actually I think that's mentioned at some point. Snape is the only one trusted as a double agent against Voldemort because he's the only one good enough at occlumency.
This scene is so heartbreaking. The moment when Snape lowers his wand... He's hesitating because he recognizes the image of a motherly figure putting herself in front of Harry to protect him
Yup Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and Robbie Coltrane can never be replaced They are the reasons I tolerate the movies I’m really hoping HBO Max does the books justice… a book per season the first 2 they could go into Maurader territory
@@username.exenotfound2943 Well, we know that Harry lobbied to ensure Snape's portrait is hung in the Headmaster's Office, but I don't thikn we ever will know if McGonagall was able to forgive Snape.
@Formortiis Warhawk and her only intention was to protect the school at all cost. When she found out that it was snape who killed Albus, she acted accordingly which is brave considering that she knows how powerful snape is
Michael. Richard. Robbie. Alan. And now we raise our wands for Maggie Smith. Our Professor McGonagall. She was a joy to watch on screen and a force of good for the students of Hogwarts. RIP to all of these amazing actors. Without each of them, we wouldn’t have such an amazing cast of mentors to our beloved characters. Thank you for all you’ve done for us ✝️
Notice how Snape, while under fire, NEVER fired a spell back at her. Not only that, he deflected the spells away from the students. Subtle things like this assure me that Snape was never evil. Yeah, mean in his childhood and a bully to some of his students, but never bad.
i love the fact that it was Mcgonagall who were fighting Snape and not Harry, it's one of her finest scenes, she really proves that she can defend the students
I hate that Harry didn't fight. His whole story is just him getting lucky with a bit of courage. I love the series but I'm not too fond of the protagonist. I know i'm a minority here.
ALso, notice that the students didn't recoil back all the way to the walls when Snape (the supposedly all feared deatheater headmaster) took out his wand. It was when McGonagall did.
Jon-Michael McMasters half of if not more then half of the things harry had accomplished was because he had hermione helping him if it was not for her he would have fallen to peaces a long time ago and prob. got blowen up along the way
Yes, agreed. The fight in the book would've been more fun to watch had they put it into the movie. McGonagall sends a lasso of fire at Snape which he turns into a giant snake and then she turns into smoke which she then turns to knives and sends at him. He hides behind a suit of armor and then Sprout, Flitwick, and Slughorn join in and then Snape flies away.
As you notice, Minerva McGonagall fires the first spell/curse, then she stops. That was a warning shot to tell Snape to leave. She could have kept on going with her spells/curses because that is what you do in a duel, you keep going. I don't think neither one wanted to fight the other especially Snape, but she believes that Snape killed her friend/colleague Albus Dumbledore and he was about to kill one of her students she cared so deeply about, almost as a grandmother figure, so she was going to defend Harry to the death and defend Dumbledore's honor, which means she was raged and that could push anyone over the edge.
Well, he never promised Lily. Last time he spoke to Lily, he called her a Mudblood and she ended their friendship. He promised Dumbledore he would protect Harry.
COWARD they screamed. TRAITOR they accused. PATHETIC they all thought. But unknown to them all he was the bravest most sacrificial charter out of the lot of them. And deep down, he was dying a little every day to the point that when Voldermort wanted to kill him, he was virtually already dead. How oh how did he do it? When he killed Dumbledore and resumed the position of double agent with in the death eaters, how did he carry on? He must have been constantly wondering to himself, "What is the next move?" "What did Dumbledore expect me to do?" "Why has he abandoned me?" "Why did he trust me, of all people!?" "Why has he doomed me, why has he forsaken me!?" but yet he never gave anything away. He remained calmed and did what he had to do to ensure the safety of Harry, and to ensure the end of Voldermort.
+Anton Nzl But once he was made headmaster, he got to talk with Dumbledore again, conspiring as they used to, only with his portrait. Of course, they did work out most of the plan together before he had to kill Dumbledore - that was made clear in the book.
HopeUnquenchable Most of it, not all... there must have been some times when Snape would have questioned whether or not what he was doing was going to work at all, and what the hell to do next.
+Anton Nzl True, in that time right after he had to kill Dumbledore, and before he was made headmaster, he probably did have questions and apprehensions, just as Harry did after Dumbledore's death, with no clear plan on his quest to destroy the horcruxes. In the book, Severus' memories in the pensive show him getting clearly frustrated with Dumbledore, refusing to let him into the entire plan whilst holding him to his promise to kill him when the time was right. But Dumbledore did say he wasn't going to put all of his eggs in one basket, evidenced by how he never told Harry about Severus' role, nor Severus about the horcruxes. I think Severus, as a mature and experienced wizard, was far more focused on his task of both keeping his cover as "Voldemort's man," and protecting the students at Hogwarts, than Harry was on his task of finding and destroying the other horcruxes. Dumbledore trusted Severus to perform and complete his task solo, whereas he knew that Harry would need help until he got to the part of his task that only *he* could complete.
Having read the books like.. idk, 10 times each? I was never able to forgive Snape, regardless of the sacrifices he made. Alan Rickmann was a fucking boss, though.
Oh, no. He very much was a bad guy. He was a creepy, obsessive lunatic. But he wasn't evil like a lot of people think. Just creepy, sadistic, and unhealthily obsessive.
2:32 is a heartbreaking moment. You can see how much effort Snape must make to point his weapon on one of his ancients teachers, now one of his most respected colleague.
When the fight started at 2:33 Snape instinctively drew back here because he did not want to harm McGonagall. In the short fight he only used blocks. Not once did he attack McGonagall. If he attempted to do so, he probably would have harmed her, as he is a very powerful wizard. At 2:47 he cause one of his blocks to look messy and with a dramatic sweep of his hand, he blew out the Carrows in case they would attempt to harm the students or staff after he had left. Then, not wanting to cause anymore harm, he flew out the window, risking the shouts of coward. YAAA SNAPE YOU THE BEST
Yeah, we know! And "A Powerful Wizard" doesn't do the man justice. I am inclined to believe that only Voldemort and Dumbledore are his superiors in his time. He is THAT good
I dunno....that may be the case in the movies. In the books, McGonagall was more than holding her own, despite beind quite a bit older than Severus. Granted, we know the real reason he was seeking Harry in that scene was to tell him that Harry was a horcrux. That being said, McGonagall didn't know that, and was attacking Snape out of a sense of duty to Harry and the school, and felt like he'd crossed the line. My interpretation, of course, but I think it's fairly accurate.
I noticed you never the green either come from his wand . He was a S House so his Wand should produce green when attacking . And when he deflects he also takes out the Carrows . It was good that Harry told of Snapes true intentions and had his picture hung . Despite Snape loving Lily Snape hated James . Harry could have held on to that and not gotten over it . He even named a child after him . Love that JK put that in the books . Ultimate forgiveness .
josiah jenks McGonagall was indeed either his equal, or his superior. Many underestimate her, likely for her gender, but she is an incredibly powerful witch.
Alan Rickman was such a great actor, the inner pain that is portrayed when McGonnagal attacks Snape is amazing. You can see how hurt he is, that they don't know the truth of what happened and now his only friends, after a lonely childhood, think he is a monster. R.I.P Alan Rickman, one of the many victims of 2016.
Its the way Snape lowers his wand when McGonogall steps forward, like he doesn't want to kill his old collegue and friend. But he knows that he has to be the enemy in order for Dumbledore's plan to be complete.
Master Yoda good point. I dont think her power was doubted, maybe he just didn't want to hurt or kill mcgonnagall in anyway. In a way, what they had was special.
***** I wouldn't say that. J.K. Rowling has said that McGonagall wou'd have, to paraphrase her, "done through" with Snape. Snape's powerful alright, but I think I'd have to side with J.K. Rowling on this one.
Isn't it odd how Dumbledore should have hired Snape to also deal with hunting down the Horcruxes? Surely Snape would have done some homework and how Snape was very knowledgeable on the Dark Arts - and if he was brave enough to play double-cross with Voldemort - all the while keeping loyal to Dumbledore and with Harry as a motivation of Lily Potter's legacy - odd how yet Dumbledore doesn't enlist Snape to hunt down the Horcruxes - where it was too late almost where Snape was angry and upset where Dumbledore cursed himself on the Cursed Ring and all Snape could do in the end was to plan out Dumbledore's final moves before taking matters to his own hand to protect Hogwarts and at the same time assist Harry and the others ...
Maica Terina Not that I'm trolling or being an idiot but surely if Snape had enough will and bravery to mask his true loyalty to Voldemort, protecting Hogwarts despite Dumbledore's death, guiding Harry and the others to find the Sword of Griffindor via his Patronus - and also providing clues all the while still 'working for Voldemort' - and considering also Snape had taught Harry some Occlumency which is abit ironic - wouldn't that still have helped? Afterall - Snape was quite upset and angry when Dumbledore cursed himself ...
Love how Snape covertly takes out the two death eaters who would have started lobbing Avadacadavras in a room full of students before making an epic gate away. dude accepted the title of villain all the way to the end, all for the greater good. The largest sacrifice must go to Snape, and he is one hell of a spy as well. To bad Alan Rickman has walked with death. Snape? Snape?! SNAAAAAAPE!
This is heartbreaking. We often forget that Snape and McGonagall had a long work history with one another. Snape more than likely hesitated when he did because of that history. Because it's Minerva that he is about to face off with. I'm sure he knew it was inevitable, but it still must have hit him very very hard. I wish Dumbledore could've warned her or something. Telling her to trust Snape no matter what like he did. Maybe then they would not have had to face off like this.
Wouldn't it had been genius, if Dumbledore told her that. And if Snape and McGonagall would have "practiced" that fight so the two in the background would be knocked off and Hogwarts would have been in good hands again? Maybe it was they're plan, so the students would think Snape was the danger :)
+Sa Vio I don't think there was any indication McGonagall knew Snape was still "one of the good guys". Snape is still a deep cover agent at this point, but only Dumbledore knew it. He is holding back against McGonagall, but had to keep his Death Eater cover. He duels, but he casts no curses or hexes at her. Once he sees the Order showing up, he knows Harry is protected. He can slink away to rejoin Voldemort. I don't think he was really frightened-- I don't think anything frightens Snape. Shackleford, Remus, and all those Weasleys who showed up with Order would have taken out the Carrows. Dumbledore left McGonagall in the dark about Snape's role (killing Dumbledore on his own orders to spare Malfoy, continuing to protect Potter, and staying in good with Voldemort until the prophecy can be fulfilled). McGonagall is attacking Snape with all her power
No, because the only one Dumbledore could fully trust to play this game without blowing cover was Snape. McGonnal might have lost her act if she really believed Snape turned bad and she should have intrinsically felt Snape was on Voldemort's side or else some people might have picked up vibes from her indicating she trusts Snape, which in turn might alert Voldemort Snape is tricking him.
I love how they included the minor subtle detail of Snape stunning the two Carrows behind him for McGonagall's and everyone's safety before fleeing at 2:47 ...the first time they gave viewers the chance to make 1+1 re. Snape
He was absolutely relieved, as he's secretly working against Voldemort and he's one of the very few people who know that Harry is the only person alive who can finish Voldemort.
Of course, Dumbledore trusted Snape, and wanted him to help Harry finish Voldemort. Snape did that until the very end, even if he acted like he hated Harry. He may have hated him as a student due to what his father did, that was true loathing, but he was on Dumbledores orders, and he wasn't going to let Harry die without a fight, for the greater good so to speak, Harry was the only one that could finish Voldemort so they kinda needed him alive.
*When Snape Takes out his wand there are a Few audible gasps. When McGonagall Takes out her wand everyone backs away like "Oh shit. She is Pissed.RUN!" 😂😂😂😂
Snape hesitates to attack he looks at her as an old friend and only defends himself rather than attack ...... he will forever be my favorite character 😟
Rip Maggie Smith say hi to Alan Rickman and Michael Gambon and all the other deceased cast members for us. 😢 everybody let’s raise our wands and pay tribute to our beloved headmistress Mcgonagall. 😢
I agree. The emotional expression on Snape's face at 2:33 and 2:41 is unreal. Probably some of the best acting I've ever seen. I actually get chills at those parts just because of how much meaning those expressions have.
yea it was the look of sadness that he has been forced to fight a loved one seriously he is one of the most heroic characters in the entire harry potter series.
houseofaction I'm not sure he considers Minerva as a "loved one". I would even say he despises her. Slytherin and Gryffindor have always hated each other, and so do their pupils. Moreover, Snape is a DeathEater, even if he's on a better side than the other. He joined only the Order of the Phoenix to avenge Lilly's death. He's still an evil man who probably committed crimes in You-Know-Who's name. (This being said, Snape and McGonagall are by far my favorite characters)
Victor Bordier It's implied throughout the series that he's trying to make amends for that, more than just him avenging Lily's death. More importantly, the relationship between them (McGonagall and Snape) is suggested to be deep. They don't always get along, they often butt heads... But they respect eachother's abilities.
Victor Bordier him and Minerva had a rivalry being from separate houses but it was more of a teasing each other thing. they were not enemies in the slightest she hated him after the murder but likely forgave him after finding out the truth that he was a double agent
+Kevin Keyes then why didn't Harry pass it in his sixth year and it has always been stated as the fifth and seventh year studying in the library in the fifth book.
Everytime I see any of the movies, I keep getting reminded of how good of an actor Severus were, to hide his secret(s) from everyone except Dumbledore. He played his role as an double agent superbly, and this scene truly shows how smack down in the middle of all the shit he has found himself, being a good guy, pretending to be bad, how he's struggling to keep it all together and not show Voldemort's other lackeys his true intentions, and how it pains him to be in this position.
Severus AND Alan Rickman. Did you know that Rowling actually told Rickman before filming for Sorcerer's Stone that Snape was a double agent and in love with Lily? That's apparently one of the reasons he played Snape so well.
I love the fact that when Snape points his wand everyone backs up and gasps a little but when McGonagall points her wand... Everyone screams and backs up as far as possible.... That just shows how badass she is.
diamcoleman Perhaps you're right! I've read it several times but I don't remember this scene was in the book!! I might have to read it again to be sure :)
Bernhardina Hörnstein It wasn't exactly in the book, not the way it is in the movie anyway. In the book, Snape finds Minerva McBadass in the corridor with Harry Potter (who was invisible). After some talk, Snape starts to ask about Harry. Minerva then unleashes magical hell on Snape, forcing him to flee.
***** oh yeah. I totally forgot that part. This is my 6th time reading the series and I still thought this scene wasn't in the book. It was sad to know that it came to a point where they had to duel. I still thought it was funny how everybody gasped when snape took out his wand, and then when mcgonnagall did it, everybody ran. Lol XD
its because its a lot different than the book. Snape actually attacked Minerva instead of just blocking her attacks and Flitwick, Pomona and Slughorn also battled against him.
he did it because they were voldemorts henchman he blocked the spells and made it hit them so it looked like mcgonagall did it, snape didnt want to kill her because she would die for harry and he knew that it would be a fight for the death if he stuck around
McGonagall: "Why's he running, Harry?" Harry: "Because he's the hero Hogwarts deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. Severus Snape."
Medusas1985 His patronus was, but nevermind, I reread the seventh one and after his duel with McGonagall, it said he was flying bat-like. I just assumed it meant he became a bat.
Why does everyone think Snape would clock McGonagall with ease? Shes was Deputy headmaster for a reason! SHES A BADASS. Much as i love snape i think in a deathmatch she would have Won!
Because Snape not only was inventing spells like Sectusempra that can only be stopped after it hits if you know the special singing counter-curse when he was all of fourteen or fifteen but he was only in his late thirties while Minerva was well into her seventies or eighties. He was easily in the top five of his generation, probably top three, in terms of power and ability.
I think the closest fight in HP would be that one. McGonnagall was an extremely powerful witch expert in "good" curses. Snape had experience as a Death Eater, and so was familiar with Unforgivable Curses and co. IMO, Snape wins because Dark Magic comes more in handy in a duel than normal curses, though it would be very close.
Darklarik Let's not forget here that Minerva, despite her age, is also one of the most powerful witches alive. I mean, look at Dumbledore! He's old, too, but that doesn't stop him from owning everyone. There's no way to tell the outcome of a duel between those two, also because we don't really know much about Minerva.
My nephew: Why is Snape villainized? Me: Because they have to villainize him. Because he's the hero Hogwarts deserves, but not the one it needs right now, so they'll hunt him. Because he can take it, because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Half-Blood Prince.
I wish this scene was longer, I think Severus could beat Minerva in a duel. It just makes him look like a coward him fleeing so early which is far from what he is. Poor sev :'(
***** True, he probably didn't wish to harm them, but they are not really giving him much of a choice. And Aquilla.Van.Ellison might be right, if he had given it a chance, I'm sure Severus could stand firm in a direct duel with Minerva and I guess with all his knowledge and skills he could simply return Harry to ashes! (which he must be very tempted to do when Harry confronts him)
no he couldnt beat her she is the strongest teach there beside dumbledore she was dumbledores right hand she would have been head mistress if not for the dark lord she was next in line to get it after dumbledore
Severus's face at 2:21. Damn. Such good acting from Alan. You can see respect, guilt, grief all at once while he still manages to look quite nonchalant. Snape is the boss. Even when he was getting so much disdain and all round shit from everyone he did his job. Probably fed up of everything but did his job. Didn't complain. Just stuck to his loyalty.
Stannis The Mannis Yea I just think about how in the '19 years later' scene Harry stated that Severus was the bravest man he knew, and when I thought about it, he was right. Snape threw himself in the fire for Harry, pretending to be on Voldemort's side, and it ultimately got him killed.
Yup that's the point. He meant it to seem like an accident, but he could just have blocked the spells as he was doing before. Deflecting them was not necessary for him to escape, so yeah, he did it on purpose. This never happened in the books, but I loved it in the movie
Not a stupid question. People need to learn. He never countered Minerva's spells or threw them back at her. Instead being the amazing subtle badass he is he took advantage and threw the spells back at the Carrow's to stop them from intervening and hurting the students or Minerva.
Snape had a second agenda all along, and that was to help Potter, even then. Snape didn't attack one single time during that duel, only defended himself with ease.
Why has no one mentioned that when McGonagall shoots the fire at Snape he deflects it and splits it into two and takes out those two death eater losers, effectively eliminating them as witnesses. Snape = The most bad ass spy ever.
Look how snape directed minerva's spell at the carrows and when he lefy he took the carrows wands so that they can not harm any students ... Snape was so brave acting as a double agent from the start..
2:45 Snape redirects McGonagall's spells at the other two Death Eaters. Snape is the unsung hero. He continued to help to the very end and he accepted being labeled the villain in order to do good.
didn't realize that until I saw this comment
+Jaki Rose THANK YOU! I was looking for this comment.
+Jaki Rose yeah, because he didn`t want to harm her and both death eaters whould have done that
+Jaki Rose Level undercover : Severus Snape
+Jaki Rose Snape is Itachi confirmed.
McGonagall's actions reminded Snape of how lily guarded harry from voldemort.
he deflected them at the crows too like saying take that assholes
Reckoning that's a very good part
Yes, this is the moment he knows that he has for certain lost the respect that McGonagall once had for him, that everyone sees him as the true villain, and that he knows he won't get to explain to them why he did it.
Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman were the right actors for their respective roles.
Were the AMAZINGLY PERFECT* actors. Maggie was born to play McGonagall
hey knock it off
World Of Tanks Blitz bish
World Of Tanks Blitz what the hell did he do to you leave him alone
Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter played their characters just as I imagined them to be in the books.

😂😂😂
Love how Snape cheekily deflected Mcgonagall's spells right into the Carrow's faces as he was blocking and escaping.
I only just noticed that
"Oh, no! I killed the Death Eaters that would make the Dark Lord's work so much easier... so sad..."
Anyone notice? He is simply blocking her spells not countering them even once!
Duh.
Forestgravy90 Same but kinda wish they would've had a longer fight but maybe she was just too strong idk :|
With all the deaths throughout Harry Potter, I am beyond glad one of them was not McGonagall
Virtual Effects is this a romanticized happy....or a sadistic Harry worshiping happy?
+Rosie Tibbs Ok does anyone know the spell that snape and the death eaters use that can make them fly? Because I can't find it!
Lmao I agree
I would listen to "Bitches Ain't Shit" by Dr. Dre, get a better haircut, visit a dentist, hit the gym, bang a few Hogsmeade hoes, and realize that centering my life around protecting my childhood bully's son is not a good way to live.
but when said childhood bullys son is the only way to kill the man who killed the woman you loved for all your life that may well change things a little
Kendra Obika All of that on top of the fact that there are people on both sides of the war who want him dead.
Harry: How dare u stand where he stood?
Snape: Dumbledore has stood anywhere in this goddamn castle, what do u want me to do? Float??
LMAO HAHAAHAHAHA
Nearly headless Nick should be the headmaster then. Got a problem?
Harry: y e s
Hahaha
🤣🤣🤣I don't know why I laughed so hard at it... Damn you deserve a thumb 👍
He did not once attack McGonagall. He respected her.
Exactly! she never gave him the chance to counter attack
Snape would destroy her
@RapidWoWPrime you're actually so dumb.
RapidWoWPrime that's the shittest thing I've read all year. Minerva is no match for snape he didn't attack her on purpose
blake niszczot Snape did fought back in the books and they had an awesome duel. Minerva put up a good fight in the books and even made Snape flee.
Minerva is no push over. She has been teaching at Hogwarts ever since Snape was young.
Is no one going to talk about Snape's epic exit with that cape trick? No one? Ok, I'll just applaud in the corner by myself.
He freaking went all Dynamo on us....
+Olivia King He just apparated. We see it all the time.
+Juan Salinas IK but it's cool
I can't imagine some other actress playing Minerva. It's like it was Maggie's destiny to play that role.
Kevin Blank the casting for almost every role was spot on. Ralph Fiennes nailed it as Voldemort as well as HBC as Bellatrix
It’s harder for me to imagine someone else playing snape
I could say the same about Alan Rickman and his portrayal of snape. R.I.P.
@@trueballer6880 JKR said in an interview the cadence he spoke with in the books was modeled after alan rickman. R.I.P.
I agree but tbf everyone says that about every series actor ever
Not only did Snape redirect the spells to the death eaters, he also picked up their wands while he was leaving to make sure they couldn't harm any students anymore. A true hero who deserved a much better life than he had.
I just now realized that haha
I never even noticed he appears to grab their wands when he bounces between them. Such a great touch
He didn’t pick up their wands. Alecto still had hers in her hand
He never fired a harmful spell at her, they were all defensive in responding to her. And when he split the one and took out the two bad teachers/death eaters.
@@blondbear2 legit no one said he fired a harmful spell at her. did you even read the original comment ? like wtf
RIP Alan Rickman..
+DesperateLion i dont know why people is liking this comment, it is bad that he died :( :( :(
+13shamas They want him to Rest In Peace, that's why.
[*]
+DesperateLion why did you have to go and say that. i'm not given to "feelings" but for some reason, his death hit me like I lost my own kin, and I'm not even a potter fan. i don't know why but it makes me exceedingly sad to think on it.
+shakaama As awful as it feels right now, grief is a necessary part of coming to terms with the loss of one you loved/respected. When people say "RIP," they are saying it to show both respect and grief.
It may always make you sad to be reminded, but if you accept that you need to grieve, you can be patient with yourself, and time will heal the wound to where, although it will still hurt sometimes, you'll also be able to remember him fondly, and enjoy his brilliant work without becoming "exceedingly sad."
this shit must have broke snapes heart man
Sean Lewis You can just see it at 2:21. hurts to watch, man.
+Sean “Shy” Lewis I do sympathize with him, but he's still a terrible person lol.
+Daan Mc hey man i love harry potter so much - wait are there 3!! movies coming out?
thanks man - i knew bout fantastic beasts & newt scamander, but 3 movies is gonna be so amazing *****
+Daan Mc .
Overall the casting is great in these movies but Rickman's performance is immaculate. He nailed the character.
M Azzopardi I have always thought rickman should have won an Oscar for the last film. His death scene was brilliant
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 because age doesn't matter
honestly, the fact Snape intentionally incapacitates the two death eaters behind him with a deflection so they cant fight back after he leaves is one of the most brilliantly subtle details that makes me love these films.
I love how when Snape brings out his wand everybody gasps but when Mcgonagall steps forever everybody screams and backs up! Students be like "Oh look Snape's pis- OH SHIT MCGONAGALL'S MAD MOVE IT!"
Because when Snape pulled his wand, everyone be like, "Gasp, he's going to kill them."
And when Mcgonagall steps up with her wand drawn, everyone was like, "Everyone back, they're going to dual."
Rex Anderson *duel
I like how snape escapes and jumps out of the window he has his own fashion :p
Alexis Alonso Not to mention when Snape pulls his wand on Harry, then McGonagall pushes him out the way Snape hesitates and looks a little worried, clearly thinking "Right Potter's for it now- Oh... McGonagall... Shit..."
+Alexis Alonso That's what got me, it makes Mcgonagall so amazing.
And i thought she only could do one, two, three vera verto.
jafs65 😂 She's a boss ass witch
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
My gosh, you really made me laugh remembering that scene and then comparing her in this film.
I love Mcgonagall, she is such an awsome character, and easily one of the most powerful witches from the Harry Potter universe. I honestly think only Dumbledore and Voldemort could be stronger than her.
Well it would be funny if she used that spell against snape :D
Possibly Snape
i reckon Snape would have beaten her if he wasn't trying to save her from getting her arse destroyed in this battle.... she was going for the attack he didn't want to harm her and he still managed to deflect her blasts at the death eaters hes a boss :P
Snape was one of the most misunderstood characters.
But he also made his pupils' lives a living hell so I see him as an antihero. I mean, come on, He was Neville's greatest fear.
Matthew Ream Yeah but he reflects what had happened to him as a student.
Those Gryffindors made his life hell too.
Dammit, now I have to go watch the whole movie...
Josh Pillault mood
I feel bad for Snape in this scene. You could see how hurt he was when Harry was going on about Dumbledore and shit and then McGonagall calling him a coward when he only left so he wouldn't blow his cover. Had he really been the bad guy he'd have been able to annihilate McGonagall easily.
Boi have you been spoiling yourself this whole time
Stannis The Mannis THE ONE TRUE KING
Know that feeling
Terror of Pirate's Cove, Foxy! Yup, that sums it up! hahahahaha
Haha! Made my day
Carmen Serdaigle What up? I was just making a comment about what I thought was going through his mind.
When McGonagall pulls out her wand you know shits going down.
Little Artemis 👍
Daniella Valadez #dobby
Oho yeah. You notice everyone doesn't run screaming until she comes out? "Oh no, Snape's gonna do somethi- OH CRAP MAYDAY MAYDAY MCGONAGALL IS MAD RUN"
Actually they're scared. McGonagall's gonna go VERA VERTO MAXIMA and turn everyone into water goblets.
Notice how Snape deflects Mcgonogalls spell onto the two death eaters standing behind him, subsequently killing them.
He knew they would hurt the children
I'm not the only one who knew that :D
Well he is probably the third greatest wizard of the time behind Dumbly and Voldy of course
Who noticed that not only Snape redirects the spells to the Carrows, he even jumps around to take their wands before flying away 2:51
Ohh..thats what he is doing. I always thought he was doing that to make it harder for McGonagall to hit him
Oh boy.
I never noticed that. What a great touch.
no, the wands still there
What are you on about? You don't see the wands being taken
Also Dumbledore was going to die anyway because of the curse of the ring
Ik I’m late but when you think about it dumbledore was kinda evil he wanted for Harry to be killed because he was the final horcrux and it was all leading up to that moment since James and lilys death
Snape drawing out his wand: students back away slowly
Minevra taking out hers: holy shit guys out of the way!
I was thinking why anyone did not reply so I did 🥺
I wonder how McGonagall felt knowing the truth afterward.
Sad I reckon, very sad. And probably also a bit regretful...
Shut up, Draco!
He's hesitating because he recognizes the image of a motherly figure putting herself in front of Harry to protect him
Oh holy shit! I had never thought of that parallel before! Damn; thanks dude
Yup
Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and Robbie Coltrane can never be replaced
They are the reasons I tolerate the movies
I’m really hoping HBO Max does the books justice… a book per season the first 2 they could go into Maurader territory
@@elphiegleason3899 Emma Watson, Dan Radcliffe, and Ralph Fiennes are also REALLY good in the movies too imo. The movies had a fantastic cast

He always talks like this..
Funny how Minerva called Snape a coward, considering how Harry later called Snape the bravest man he knew.
Minerva doesn't know what Harry knows at that point.
Does Snape get forgiven after Harry says so?
@@username.exenotfound2943 Well, we know that Harry lobbied to ensure Snape's portrait is hung in the Headmaster's Office, but I don't thikn we ever will know if McGonagall was able to forgive Snape.
@Formortiis Warhawk and her only intention was to protect the school at all cost. When she found out that it was snape who killed Albus, she acted accordingly which is brave considering that she knows how powerful snape is
Harry also called him a coward
Michael. Richard. Robbie.

He wanted to protect those he cared about
Plus, he redirected the Jinxes to hit the two Death Eaters behind him, presumably so that they wouldn't do anything to the student after he was gone.
+MilesEdgeworth129 that's exactly right
+foofi He sure as shit fights back in the book though
harry potter dad was a bully. he bullied snape when they were children
The underlying look of pain on Alan's face in every scene is so sad. He sounds like the same old Snape but he's tortured by what he has to do.
i love the fact that it was Mcgonagall who were fighting Snape and not Harry, it's one of her finest scenes, she really proves that she can defend the students
Jon-Michael McMasters half of if not more then half of the things harry had accomplished was because he had hermione helping him if it was not for her he would have fallen to peaces a long time ago and prob. got blowen up along the way
Rip Maggie Smith. Wands up and we’ll miss you and no one could have played Mcgnagall like you
I need more Mcgonagall fight scene in my life, ARGGHHHH
read the book. esp. the battle of Hogwarts
The fact that they didn't include Voldemort vs Mcgonogall, Shacklebolt and Slughorn is absolutely disgusting and beyond me on every level.
yeah that would have been a great one. They battled voldermort to a stalemate.
+HuffeNuvven yea it bothered me but the movie wanted the focus on Harry,Ron & Hermione
Snape is probably the most amazing character I have ever seen or read about, ever.

Well, he never promised Lily. Last time he spoke to Lily, he called her a Mudblood and she ended their friendship. He promised Dumbledore he would protect Harry.

How did she used magic in reality

He's heart is breaking there
Truly. What amazing acting from Alan Rickman. You can see such sad respect on his face when McGonagall throws a spell at Snape.
You can see the hesitation of Snape when he raised his wand against Mcgonagall... It's very heart breaking. Rest in Peace, Alan Rickman!
He didn't hesitate to raise it to Harry though
I love this scene. The heroic but misunderstood Snape. McGonagall, the badass. Note how she moves forward the whole time. She was DONE with him.
That deep look of both sorrow and respect in Snape's eyes as Harry walks forward......
I totally agree.
Not to mention the fact he sees Lily each times he crosses Harry's eyes.
HopeUnquenchable
Most of it, not all... there must have been some times when Snape would have questioned whether or not what he was doing was going to work at all, and what the hell to do next.
Jesus?
Having read the books like.. idk, 10 times each? I was never able to forgive Snape, regardless of the sacrifices he made. Alan Rickmann was a fucking boss, though.
you can see that snape doesn't want to fight mcgonagall cause he isnt bad, so sad
he was still an asshole, if he was good he wouldn't treat Harry like shit
Oh, no. He very much was a bad guy. He was a creepy, obsessive lunatic. But he wasn't evil like a lot of people think. Just creepy, sadistic, and unhealthily obsessive.
Insulting many students during their lessons with him is not part of the agreement, that was just him being a jerk.
sadistic?
Although snape did fight back in the books.. their fight was epic actually
KittycatDaddy Yeah
I noticed you never the green either come from his wand . He was a S House so his Wand should produce green when attacking . And when he deflects he also takes out the Carrows .
It was good that Harry told of Snapes true intentions and had his picture hung . Despite Snape loving Lily Snape hated James . Harry could have held on to that and not gotten over it . He even named a child after him . Love that JK put that in the books . Ultimate forgiveness .
josiah jenks McGonagall was indeed either his equal, or his superior.
Many underestimate her, likely for her gender, but she is an incredibly powerful witch.
i like how even the order knows shit is going down
lmao trueeeee
Alan Rickman was such a great actor, the inner pain that is portrayed when McGonnagal attacks Snape is amazing. You can see how hurt he is, that they don't know the truth of what happened and now his only friends, after a lonely childhood, think he is a monster. R.I.P Alan Rickman, one of the many victims of 2016.
I love how he subtly deflecs McGonagall's spells right into the Death Eaters behind him so they don't attack her.
McGonagall and snap had a love affair.
@@JM-xk6oz Troll comment
Its the way Snape lowers his wand when McGonogall steps forward, like he doesn't want to kill his old collegue and friend. But he knows that he has to be the enemy in order for Dumbledore's plan to be complete.
Hmm so you doubt McGonagall's power hmm?
Master Yoda good point. I dont think her power was doubted, maybe he just didn't want to hurt or kill mcgonnagall in anyway. In a way, what they had was special.
Alyanna Fuentes yeah
***** I wouldn't say that. J.K. Rowling has said that McGonagall wou'd have, to paraphrase her, "done through" with Snape. Snape's powerful alright, but I think I'd have to side with J.K. Rowling on this one.
Maybe I should rephrase what I said. Snape doesn't want to RISK hurting his old friend... happy now?
He submits to her on purpose. He deflects her attacks towards the 2 others behind him on purpose. Snape was always the good guy.
***** As Celion Dion said... THE POWER OF LOVE.
***** nor bad
Isn't it odd how Dumbledore should have hired Snape to also deal with hunting down the Horcruxes? Surely Snape would have done some homework and how Snape was very knowledgeable on the Dark Arts - and if he was brave enough to play double-cross with Voldemort - all the while keeping loyal to Dumbledore and with Harry as a motivation of Lily Potter's legacy - odd how yet Dumbledore doesn't enlist Snape to hunt down the Horcruxes - where it was too late almost where Snape was angry and upset where Dumbledore cursed himself on the Cursed Ring and all Snape could do in the end was to plan out Dumbledore's final moves before taking matters to his own hand to protect Hogwarts and at the same time assist Harry and the others ...
if he did, Snape's cover woul have been blown and Dumbledore needed Snape as headmaster in order to protect the kids in school.
I love how when Snape pulls out his wand, the students gasp and are nervous. When Minerva pulled out her wand, the students scrambled in fear, haha.
Deflected the attacks onto the true enemies ensuring the student’s safety and then flees. Snape was brilliant
Ariel Olavarria read the book. I bet you'd try to edit your comment if you did.
Sa Vio don't waste your breath. She can't even read the actual scene.
I love how they included the minor subtle detail of Snape stunning the two Carrows behind him for McGonagall's and everyone's safety before fleeing at 2:47 ...the first time they gave viewers the chance to make 1+1 re. Snape
Why they're not realize ittt?? :"(
When he's hopping around he's stealing their wands too so they can't do shit afterwards.
RIP Maggie Smith, thank you for giving life to our eternal professor Minerva McGonagall😢🪄
Even with her face emotionless, you can tell by the rage of her attacks that McGonagall was blazing with anger.
i cant help myself but for me it looks like Snape felt relieved to see that potter is alive
That moment when you realize he's the good guy
RIP Dame Maggie Smith, who passed away this morning.
you can tell snape was holding back... his facial expressions were a beautiful touch
You mean the same exact facial expression he's had throughout the entire series?
*When Snape Takes out his wand there are a Few audible gasps. When McGonagall Takes out her wand everyone backs away like "Oh shit. She is Pissed.RUN!" 😂😂😂😂
+Girl Sans The Skeleton Oh Snape's piss... OH SHIT, RETREAT MCGONNAGETITALL'S PISSED! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
+Raxon Gaming this comment gave me life! old sayin goes, it's the old warrior you should fear lol
right?!
Snape hesitates to attack he looks at her as an old friend and only defends himself rather than attack ...... he will forever be my favorite character 😟
+Erick Perez remember that when snape was a little boy and went to hogwarts school McGonagall was his teacher.
McGonagall can be so badass! XD
I love both, her and Snape and somehow I'm really sorry for him, because he is so misunderstood. :'(
No, he just played the part he had to.
Rip Maggie Smith say hi to Alan Rickman and Michael Gambon and all the other deceased cast members for us. 😢 everybody let’s raise our wands and pay tribute to our beloved headmistress Mcgonagall. 😢
Did anyone else see that look of sorrow on Snapes face when Minerva cast the first spell? This was probably one of the most powerful scenes in HP
Shouldn't Cho have finished her studies already? Wasn't she a year ahead of Harry?
yeah now that i think about that she should have
Hogwarts students could go to school for seven years. But the seventh isn't required.
Kevin Keyes they have to complete their exam in their seventh year, which is more important than their owl's in their fifth year.
+Trymex actually the NEWTS are in their sixth year, not their seventh. The seventh year is optional.
+Kevin Keyes then why didn't Harry pass it in his sixth year and it has always been stated as the fifth and seventh year studying in the library in the fifth book.
professor McGonagall has to be one of the bad ass teachers Hogwarts ever had
she was always a badass in both the books and movies. But, she was way more of a badass in the books ;)
R.I.P Professor McGonagall 😔
"It seems despite your exhaustive defensive strategies, you seem to have a bit of a security problem headmaster. I'm afraid it's quite extensive."
+WormsWeGot
*Cough, *Cough.
Severus AND Alan Rickman. Did you know that Rowling actually told Rickman before filming for Sorcerer's Stone that Snape was a double agent and in love with Lily? That's apparently one of the reasons he played Snape so well.
RIP Alan Rickman. :(
Ignacio Varga can you not. Thanks
J King ???
J King can you fuck off and stop telling people not to comment on his death
I love the fact that when Snape points his wand everyone backs up and gasps a little but when McGonagall points her wand... Everyone screams and backs up as far as possible.... That just shows how badass she is.
This is my favourite scene in the movie. Even though it isn't even in the book.
Lol you might want to go back and re-read that part in the book because she definitely did.
diamcoleman Perhaps you're right!
I like how all the kids back up like they've never seen a wand before.
It was probably because they were like "OH FUCK THE TEACHERS ARE FIGHTING!!! ANARCHY!!! CALAMITY!!!"
AND POPCORN!!!
+Mr.Slimer they don't move a muscle when snape takes out his wand but they back the fuck down when they see mcgonagall's
+Mr.Slimer I'd back the fuck up if it looked like there was going to be a fight between those two...
Lmao! Your comment has me crying. They know to get the fuck out of the way when McGonagall is angry
i like the way snape duels with mcgonagall n at the same time makes the twins go down!!!!
he did it because they were voldemorts henchman he blocked the spells and made it hit them so it looked like mcgonagall did it, snape didnt want to kill her because she would die for harry and he knew that it would be a fight for the death if he stuck around
It's so sad that these two icons are both gone 😭😭 But their legacies will live on forever.
NOOOOO😭
McGonagall: "Why's he running, Harry?"
Harry: "Because he's the hero Hogwarts deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. Severus Snape."
*****
I think he was an animagus and his animal was a bat.
53knights
I thought it was a deer like Harry's Mother.
Medusas1985
His patronus was, but nevermind, I reread the seventh one and after his duel with McGonagall, it said he was flying bat-like. I just assumed it meant he became a bat.
Ah, my mistake! ;)
This makes me want to get my family together at like 4am just to say, 'Many of you are surely wondering why I have summoned you at this hour'.
is that a wand or a flamethrower? lol
...Yes.
lol ikr?
Robert Perez which one?
Joe T Exactly.
Robert Perez you tell me
R.I.P Maggie Smith
One question. WTF SPELLS IS MINERVA CASTING HOLY FUCK IT LOOKS BADASS
There are several spells that conjure fire but this one is probably incedio.
Dumbledore conjured a fire storm.
If we're gonna do this, so did Grabbe.
Nope don't listen to these muggles it was Confingo of course...Obviously
Severus Snape Oh snap! Oh wait...sorry Severus I didn't mean to remind you of Nagini.
When Snape pulls out his wand: Whatever.
When McGonagall pulls out her wand: AAAHHHHH RRRUUUNNNNN
Snape would have won.
Samuel Herize Snape doesn't use dark magic. He's not a dark wizard.
Harry: “TELL THEM
HOW YOU LOOKE-
Snape: AAAAAVADA KEDAVRAAAA
I love how Snape obviously doesn't want to fight her.
I love how the Order walks in and the unspoken message is "WE'RE BADASSES"
students be like : " snape is fighting better get out of the HOLY SHIT IT´S MCGONAGALL RUN FOR YOUR LIFE"
*Ikr😂😂
TRUTH!!
+Hannah Sunil Anyway, McGonagall would win. She is... McGonagall
So what you're saying is
...Snape is the
Dark Knight
I really love the part when Harry reveals himself. IMO this is one of the best scenes in the series
My fav scene.
Some of my favorite scenes in the film series never happened in the book, or at least happened the same way in the book. It's weird but I love it!
I wish this scene was longer, I think Severus could beat Minerva in a duel. It just makes him look like a coward him fleeing so early which is far from what he is. Poor sev :'(
Oh yeah, that's a good point
*****
True, he probably didn't wish to harm them, but they are not really giving him much of a choice. And Aquilla.Van.Ellison might be right, if he had given it a chance, I'm sure Severus could stand firm in a direct duel with Minerva and I guess with all his knowledge and skills he could simply return Harry to ashes! (which he must be very tempted to do when Harry confronts him)
He was ordered to do all that stuff by dumbledore
no he couldnt beat her she is the strongest teach there beside dumbledore she was dumbledores right hand she would have been head mistress if not for the dark lord she was next in line to get it after dumbledore
2:05 "Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you'd seen the last of me."
Rip professor mcgonagall another part of my childhood gone
Maybe this is a stupid question but whatever. Did Snape deflect the spell at the Carrow's on purpose?
Yup that's the point. He meant it to seem like an accident, but he could just have blocked the spells as he was doing before. Deflecting them was not necessary for him to escape, so yeah, he did it on purpose. This never happened in the books, but I loved it in the movie
Not a stupid question. People need to learn. He never countered Minerva's spells or threw them back at her. Instead being the amazing subtle badass he is he took advantage and threw the spells back at the Carrow's to stop them from intervening and hurting the students or Minerva.
Was gonna ask this because it looks like he really did do it on purpose.
Yea it was wonderful how he made it look how he hadnt done that on purpose.
Snape had a second agenda all along, and that was to help Potter, even then. Snape didn't attack one single time during that duel, only defended himself with ease.
PROFESSOR MCBADASS
Why has no one mentioned that when McGonagall shoots the fire at Snape he deflects it and splits it into two and takes out those two death eater losers, effectively eliminating them as witnesses. Snape = The most bad ass spy ever.
I know its pretty awesome!
Soooo many people have :P
Robb Stark robb, what are you doing here? thought argus filch had you killed in red wedding
Look how snape directed minerva's spell at the carrows and when he lefy he took the carrows wands so that they can not harm any students ...
Snape was so brave acting as a double agent from the start..
