  • Here's a how to on how to install a Power Commander 5 (AKA PCV) on a Husqvarna 701. This applied to all model years and will also apply to the 690 SMCR (not sure on start year but definitely from 2014 onward).

      Check out Dave Wood Racing mate. They can remap the ECU so you don't need to fit a power commander. They're probably closer to you with you being dorn sawf.

    Always a useful source of info. I have met Dave Wood and his yard is less than an hour's ride from me so maybe a flash is worth it. Does your SM use more/less/same fuel since adding PC?

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому

      To be honest, I've always gotten 90-100 miles before the light comes on. The most I've ever done is 120 and my bum was nipping a bit lol. Probably does use more fuel but the fun outweighs that. Never taken it on a long quiet ride either so don't know how far I could get on a full tank lol.

    Hi man, I'm planning to buy a new 701 but I have a couple of questions if you don;t mind ; from what i've read from various users the bike burns oil, does yours do? did you had it from new? did you do the factory specified break in or a hard break in with mineral oil (as other users would recomend to stop burning oil).thanks in advance

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  3 роки тому +1

      I've had mine from new. I followed the break in instructions loosely. For the first 200 miles or so I took it really easy as I came from a Honda Grom. Once I was used to it I rode it steady. Didn't rev it hard or give it death, more like a leisurely cruise and pushed it harder after 500 miles then got it serviced at 600 miles by my dealer. It did use some oil (all engines do) but it uses a lot less than it used to now that the engine is worn in fully. You will hear a few problems of it burning oil and other issues but there will be thousands out there that don't.
      The only big issue on these is the clutch slave cylinder failing. Mine was fine but I fitted the Oberon one at 9,000 miles as a preventative measure. Hope this helps buddy.

    Did the o2 dongle come with the PC-V or did you get that from another retailer? I just installed my PC-V last night but it didn’t come with an o2 dongle, TIA

    • @Twedymoto

      Mine did mate. I think dynojet stopped providing it for some stupid reason but without it, it defeats the object of having a power commander. If you're in the UK, you can get them cheap on ebay. 👍

    hi, as this bike can run two maps, can 1 map be the a2 license 30kw and the other map be full power ? so i could switch between the two? just curious thats all.

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  3 роки тому

      The A2 complaint map is loaded by a dealer (probably get a certificate or something) and probably has more than just lower fuel and retarded timing. Can imagine the throttle plate won't open as much too.
      It could be possible with a power commander but it would need time on a dyno and a tuner who is willing to do it. 👍

    Which sprockets do you use/prefer?
    Stock is 16/42.

      @Twedymoto  3 роки тому +2

      I ran 15/42 for a while but on track but I was rarely out of 3rd gear so swapped to 15/44 and it's great for wheelies and smaller tracks now. Will still top out at a decent speed (117mph) but is revving higher at normal cruise speed.

    Are these worth it or risky for a person like me who don’t know how to

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  2 роки тому +1

      They're worth it if you have fitted a new intake and exhaust and want to get the best performance from it with the correct map. It can help smooth the bike out too.

    Get the ecu flashed mate!!!!

    • @davidrespect6471
      @davidrespect6471 4 роки тому

      You can't flash the ECU of the 12' and upwards 690s it's locked from the factory you have 2 options you put an aftermarket ECU or a PC5

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому +1

      You can flash the ECU David. Not 100% on the older 690s but there was a thing called Tune ECU that let you flash it. On the newer bikes (2017 up) the ECU can be flashed but the tuners are very few and far between. There are 2 in the UK that I know of, DWR and P3 Tuning.

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому +1

      At the time I fitted mine, I got it for a good price and got a deal on tuning and there was only 1 that could flash it and that was a 12 hour round trip. Now that I have the power commander, getting the ECU flashed would be another £4-500 + travel which I can't justify for the extra 1-2hp that I might get. That said, it does have a slight throttle issue which may justify the spend :D lol

    • @deadbugdavey1744
      @deadbugdavey1744 4 роки тому

      I got both my 701s from dwr but they don't sell them anymore. But they will still flash the ecu, they have moved to Buckingham now if anyone is interested. Most tuners will take a power commander and throw it away if they were tuning the ecu so alot of people see the pcv as a waste of cash. But as mentioned, tuners are not all over the place! Great to see ya vid anyway twedymoto, hope ya safe and well

    • @Twedymoto
      @Twedymoto  4 роки тому

      I know DWR have more control when flashing the ecu. I think they remove the throttle restrictions in 2nd and 3rd gear too. The main advantage is not having to install any extras, they just connect to the ecu and change the settings and map. 👍
