    Thank you, easy to follow for my Volvo v70 2003. It was burnt out, got the "check stop lamp" message every time I pressed the brake. Got the bulb in a 2 pack for less than $7.00 at Napa Auto Parts locally.

    Thanks for posting this. Taking out the speaker is a bit counter intuitive. You have to push the top tab away from you/toward the corner post, while at the same time trying to pull the whole assembly toward you. Also, the red tab won't necessarily come all the way out, if you just pull it out and it stops, you've released what you need to.

    My hand's too big so I had to find a person with a small hand to put the sock/bulb back in!!! i didn't know the Swedes had such small hands!! ha! Thanks!!!

      Mr. Squirrel - I can relate. At mark 1:11, my right hand thumb was bleeding. The bulb is difficult to reinsert with big hands!

    Thanks! This really helped. Couldn't get the speaker out (corner of a paint scraper did the job!) pain in the butt to put bulb holder back in. But no where near as bad as the main beam bulbs on a b6 passat or a mk4 golf!

      Hey, if you have to change it again, you need to push the speaker prong into the car, not away from the car. It seems backward, but another video showed it and it worked really easy.

    Can Google read minds? Just today my rear right brake light went out. Huh pretty neat video, was always wondering how to replace it if it ever needed to be replaced.

    A big thank you! My hands are too big, but small "Channel-Lock" pliers worked to grab and turn the tab.

    My Bad, the Bulbs that do work for the Brake light are Sylvania 7506 and 1156. I pulled out the wrong bulb thinking it was the Break Light...Yep, my bad. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO!

    It's so funny reading the comments about how hard Volvos are to work on. They're easily some of the simplest cars I've ever worked on, especially real Volvos made before 1993.

      my 2004 xc 70 volvo brake lights on both sides keep going on and off sometimes they work sometimes they don't. I have replaced the bulbs and the housing harness that the bulbs go into and still having the same issue. The top long break light on top of the tailgate still works and has had no issues. Do you have any suggestions on what the culprit could be? Any insight would be greatly appreciated

      @@julianpatrickdahitmaker1985 this sounds like a bad ground wire. Hitting all the contacts on the sockets/housing with electrical contact cleaner would be a good start, but it might not fix anything. Facebook has a very active XC70 group. I'd try posting the question to a forum, I'm not too familiar with the ground points on the P2.

      @@julianpatrickdahitmaker1985 There is a relay in the trunk, on the left side with the fuse box. This relay sometimes gives the fault you have on your car.

    Same problem as all (horrible design) but can you please give us a hint /clue how to get the new bulb in socket back in. I have spent more than an hour with no luck. I took the other speaker out to see how that one is oriented, but have not figured it out. Help!

      It’s not easy to get back in the socket. My thumb was scraped and bleeding. As you can see, I works up a sweat getting it back in the socket. Keep trying, you will get it.

    I wish would would mention the position the socket needs to be when you first put it back into the hole & which way to turn / how much of a turn it takes.

  • @mili7552
    @mili7552 5 років тому +6

    Stuff a wadded up small paper lunch bag down in hole so,you don't lose brake light. I also,put a piece of duct tape over the plastic moulding lip. Tears up your fingers.
    What a pain. Thank you.
    To line up bulb holder 2 metal prongs should go,into the 1/2 moon holes around base then turn.

    Helpful video not sure what year yours is, or if you've done a voltage upgrade. However the 1157 & 1158 are significantly higher in voltage and shouldn't be used on older Volvos. Older Volvos W/O the voltage upgrade, require 7506 bulbs not 1157 or 1158.
    Because of this in a pinch a 7506 bulb CAN be used in place of an 1157/1158 but NOT the other way around. UNLESS the cars electrical system has been upgraded.

      The 7506 Bulbs are Wrong! I have them, the tabs on the bulb itself Do Not line up with the connector! The original bulb has tabs offset from a straight line. My Quest continues for the right bulbs...

      That's because you're driving a Ford era Volvo. I work on them all. The best ones are made before 1993. My 1985 740 is far more reliable and easier to work on than my 2004 V70, same with my 93 940. Real Volvo = Old Volvo.

    While putting the new bulb in, of course, the thing fell out, tumbled all the way to the bottom in an impossible little hidden spot where you can't get to it to get it out anymore with bleeding hand. Oh well, thanks for the video anyway, I got close.

    Whichever sweed designed this bulb encasement should be brought up on criminal charges. I've been trying for a half an hour to reinsert this goddamn bulb. There is no way to figure out how to do it my hands are too big to get in there...it came out okay but I cannot reinsert it no matter what I do and I'm afraid of dropping it into the goddamn crevice. The sweeds may be great at engine design but electrical stuff... they suck! Now I have to take the car into a freaking service station to have them insert a fu***** light bulb.

    • @MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC
      @MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC  2 роки тому

      It took me a few tries to get it back in the socket. My fingers were bleeding from the effort. Hopefully, they won’t charge you a lot as you’ve done 95% of the work. Ask them to just put the bulb in and you will put it all back together. That may save you some money as well.

    Replacing these bulbs is frikiking ridiculous.. I love our XC70.. but cringe everytime my wife says there a brake light out.. there is no way to get my hand in there to seat that bulb and turn it to the proper placement to make it work..

      @MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC  3 роки тому +2

      I agree. My thumb was cut up from hitting the metal. I finally was able to get it back in the socket. Removing the bulb is easy. A small handed person will have a better chance.

    • @steveg2479
      @steveg2479 2 роки тому

      After shredding my knuckles, I cut a slot in a cork and put that on the tab as an extension. It was enough to get it seated, then pliers to locate it properly. Another couple of inches in the cut out would have been good, but I suppose there is no fun making things too easy….

  • @55hillerby
    @55hillerby 3 роки тому +1

    All the designer had to do is make the speaker opening BIGGER and hence also the speaker cover...or MORE SIMPLY design the plastic brake bulb covering on the outside with a separate cover over the brake area and attach it with screws accessible FROM OUTSIDE the car with screws. Then two screws could be simply removed and the bulb could be accessed without doing anything else. Terrible design and even worse after the terrible design his manager approved it. Both should have been fired.

    IDK how this guy got the bulb back in. I spent a half hour tonight busting up my knuckles
    trying to get it back in only to give up. Have to take the whole tail light out tomorrow now to get it reinstalled. Dumbest engineered cars ever.

    • @MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC
      @MartinsUsedCarsCollectiblesLLC  2 роки тому

      I agree. My thumb was raw and bloody after all of the attempts to reinstall. I took a break and gathered myself before the final try and was able to get the bulb back in the socket.
