    Please don’t quit your channel, you two are lovely good people that make our world a better place. It makes me sad to think it may be coming to an end. If that’s the case I thank you for all the hours l’ve enjoyed watching your channel. You are an amazing couple and will be missed.

    Great summary folks, good advice, always good to hear a success story. Hearing you describe the sacrifices of not being able to full explore, enjoy and indulge in the wonderful location you have chosen to move to was a particularly unexpected frustration of our own too.
    Loved seeing your decorated xmas tree - we have just found your card and handmade bauble - our postie left it on the dash of our Camper, just seen it today and opened it to find the surprise. Thank you so much, you guys are awesome X

    This is really cool! Fair play! I didn't realise that those grants would allow you to do most of the work yourself.

    Very well budgeted, fair play on taking that job on it'd overwhelm most! How much was all the plumbing including stove ,pipes, tanks, etc. Apart from the bathroom sanitary ware please? Yes u can do the exterior & grounds at your own pace now, please keep showing us your progress with the exterior too. Fantastic! Happy Christmas, have a well deserved break🎉

    • @WestCorkWander

      Good question! Let me come back to you on this as plumbing came under services.

    When we built our home in Alaska, we had to run all the electricity our selfs because they had no rules stating we had to hire an electrician. So Google was our best pal, but i did have fears that we'd burn down for a very long time, hah ... btw we didn't 😅 we don't receive grants here, but what we do get is 10,000 board feet free every year of yellow cedar red cedar and spruce that helped alot because we had a saw mill . First year it was all beams 😊

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  3 дні тому +1

      Oh that's amazing, having your own sawmill. We have a big spruce which we had to take down and we have earmarked it for a table in the future. Gosh what a responsibility with the electrics 🙈

    • @aprildixon-ff1bc
      @aprildixon-ff1bc 3 дні тому

      The electric was all our responsibility even to the city main that was pretty freaky had a big stick ready to go i was totally surprised it all came on hah. I sold my saw mill now i get deals with that person when i bring logs to them. We also made a red cedar table about 5 feet round counted the lines 300 years old. It was ready to go so we cut it. Red cedar is so beautiful.. we use it on everything siding , decks and art work ... thanks for chatting back have a great day btw love Ireland.... ❤️ 😍

    Curiosity about the choice of going all electric including underfloor heating. I almost went that route back in 2014 when electricity was cheap and I’m so glad I went hydronic . I assume you did because you had not mentioned any plumbing except for bath finishes.

    Hi guys. Fantastic work. Well done.
    Just about to renovate a cottage myself,and wondering are ye happy with the steel cladding? Do you find it loud in the rain. As i was thinking of going that route too ,mainly due to budget.

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  3 дні тому +1

      We are delighted with it and would highly recommend Gusclad who were the suppliers. We have insulation and then plaster board on the inside, so no rain sound.

    Amazing project with an unbelievable budget, well done! What kind of heat pump did you use, air or ground source?

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  3 дні тому

      We can available of a further grant for heating if we wish, and so momentarily we only focused on what we could achieve under the derelict grant. So at the moment we have a wood burning stove heating the actual farmhouse very well and for the extension we have laid electric underfloor and installed infrared heating. We have built a solar array and this year we hope to optimize this with solar panels, and a solar thermal system. So no heat pumps for the moment.

    Wow what a great forever home for such a low cost, so impressed! I reckon you paid 205,00 euros for the property and land, did you have to pay VAT on all the build materials? We have to pay 20% VAT in UK if we’re renovating, it’s zero VAT if we build a new home, hope you’re taking a break now, see you next week❤

    • @WestCorkWander
      @WestCorkWander  3 дні тому

      Yes we did have to pay VAT on all materials and as far as I know it's the same figure for new builds but I could be wrong.

    Feckin' hell, that carnivore is working, just going to view now! Eh never just say "Roscommon maybe", the Rossies are a proud fold, they demand recognition always, believe me, Westmeath and Longford here! Arragh, just kidding, the Rossies are the best, if there is a grant to be got, they have it in hand.
