Not a big fan of the campaign to be honest. The stretch goals only added a handful of minis so far and I dislike PDF and paid expansion stretch goals a lot. The gameplay also doesn't really seem that unique to me. But it's Borderlands so I am really conflicted. This would have been way better in the hands of a different company, Monster Fight Club isn't really known for amazing games anyways.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that stretch goals aren't really free and that they barely communicate with the backers.

True, Masters of the Universe seemed more like a re-print of the typical World of Warcraft or similar Ameritrash miniatures game and worth the money for sure in terms of gameplay. Good campaign, good stretch goals, lots of dice, cards, and miniatures. But this I can't see how the copies won't gain in value if they add a couple of exclusives. I get the feeling that they have about 30-40 unlocks, but they are showing us 2-3 at a time. (here's what you unlocked... another 1-2 appear grayed out...) If there is a 5 million penultimate goal, and another 20 unlocks, exclusives, and so on to actually reach it, don't tease us - list them and make the interest grow.

the whole point of kickstarter for me is the fun stretch goals. being asked to pay more for what should be endemic to the platform feels super gross to me. immediately put me off to the campaign as a whole

I don't need it, especially with Marvel Zombies coming soon, but I do enjoy the Borderlands games and it looks decently fun... Multiple early birds definitely have me thinking that the campaign is going to slow to crawl... I backed early but not sure I will keep it...

Locking stretch goals behind a pledge where you're forced to get an expansion that you may not want is such a scummy practice.

I think they try to give a cheap options but of course you can see in the opposite way that they try to push for the 135$ pledge. Honestly also for me is not a nice touch on a KS campaign to remove the SG from a pledge level... I think Skyrim they did the same but then they change their mind if I remember correctly

    • @josephoberlander

@@patriziopastore9895 If it stays at $135 and grows to a Gloomhaven sized brick in the end, it's still a fantastic deal for all of the minis and so on. But, yes, the base game should have some stretch goals in it and the bigger game should have at least another free expansion. I think they are planning to do it - like the better acrylic tokens and barrels and so on as goals, but they are trickling out the stretch goals one or two at a time instead of listing all 30 of them at once and letting us generate hype for it. If there, for instance, is another expansion at 1.2 million, let us KNOW well beforehand. If there is a companion app or whatever it is - let us know. As it is, it feels like "keep giving us money and we'll let you know what the next bonus is!", which is... yeah... a little off-putting. Still backing it, but still also off-putting.

Really thought this is a safe back..then I saw the campaign and what a dissapointment... In every step I got the feeling they try to rip me off..
    Basepledge = no stretchgoals
Higher pledge = with addon and stretchgoals.. but 5 dollar more then basepledge + addon..why? So the stretchgoals cost extra (dont care about 5 bucks..but it feels so wrong).
Addons: the addon itself looks more like 30-40euro, not much in there..then the terrain..30 bucks for some tires? Are they serious? Compare that to an add on at monsterpocalypse (just as an example)..
And then you have shipping.. the amount is ok..and that you have to pay vat too is getting common...but then this nice note, that it is my problem if there is something changing.. so if vat raises 1%..they dont care and I can have some fun at the customs office. And then you have things like 120 bucks msrp but the game has no reason to cost so much..thats nearly gloomhaven or arydia with less stuff (lots of cards are good..the hexes are ok..maybe..and the minis are good(players) or quite bad with a lot of dublicates (enemies).

Alex- you should have saved your cash grab video for this campaign. It's like the textbook example. Not just the entire way the campaign has been structured so far (TWO early birds, base pledge with no stretch goals, PDF unlocks and some "unlocks" locked behind having to spend more money), but the gameplay seems shallow and disconnected from even the most basic Borderlands structure.
From what I've seen so far, you basically roll dice to determine if you flat-out miss or essentially crit (and evade or take a crit). If you get hit you lose a die for the next round leaving you majorly gimped. That's not how the game works at all! You essentially always hit or get hit. The RNG comes into play on how hard that hit is and whether or not a crit or status effect procs. You have a shield and health pool and continue to shoot and move a full strength until you reach 0/0. In fact most builds and gear grant bonuses if one of those pools gets depleted, so you actually get stronger the more damage you take. And is there even a Second Wind?
I get that some sacrifices have to be made to bring a video game to the table, but the gameplay seems totally random with the IP slapped on top. It would have been so much better if they used a system like TMB where you have chips (or even dice) for counters and the rolls determine how much damage you dish out or take. Better gear would give better dice, or more dice, to roll. Range would impact which dice you roll (maybe Zero has a sniper build so he gets to roll D12 at 3+ range. Or if he went melee it'd be D12 at 0 range). Maybe you have different colored dice for different elemental effects. Then med kits and shield boosts could drop on kills or be found in chests, giving you an incentive to move in order to heal (since, duh, you're pretty much ALWAYS moving in the game). So many missed opportunities!!

My only gripe is that the expansion scenarios are not printed but appear to be print it yourself PDFs. I'd also love to have a companion app to handle the announcements and so on, but that would require a few days of studio time with the voice actors, plus programming it. Then again, they did a great job with X-Com and Mansions of Madness as it meant the new campaigns and a lot of the work to keep the game moving forwards was done by it instead of the players.

  • @DumahAtreides

I think they missed a huge opportunity with the style of game. This would have been a perfect IP to make the next evolution on what Project Elite did. Have the same two minute phases, but instead of going to loot spots, players take every enemy to their board. In the untimed phase, have a loot explosion before the next more difficult enemy wave. This would feel a lot more like Borderlands.

I love Borderlands and I love some simple game play to go alongside the many other games with their 'bible-like' rules that I have. If you like the theme/game then back it and if you have an issue with the campaign just don't back it. They are nearly a million bucks into this , they are not going to change the way the stretch goals are unlocking, when they appear to be working lol

@@BoardGameCo I am waiting for the Ultimate Vault Hunter edition shoe to drop, as it were, at a $250 price tag. lol. As for value, if it stays at $135 and ends up being a huge brick of miniatures and add-ons, it's at least not losing value. But I and many people on the feedback/forum there are worried about an eventual $250 price tag for the all in mega version.

this is the only KS campaign i've ever seen where a higher pledge tier comprised of {core + add-on} is actually *more expensive* than the actual sum of {core + add-on}. locking stretch goals behind that higher pledge tier already felt a little iffy, but making it cost an extra $5 on top seems like anti-consumer greed. especially given that the IP was destined to rake in tons of money (and it has), it really seems like it's just taking advantage of backers, rather than rewarding them.
i'm currently backing, but it's making me feel gross the more i think about it. unless there's some massive 4th quarter reveal that knocks my socks off, i will probably bounce.

I could be wrong but I think you should count how borderlands does historical in the used market which is typically after 6 months it's selling at half off and then after a year it's around 20 bucks or less for a 60 dollar title. That combined with what appears to be fairly light gameplay mechanic should make picking up a used copy fairly easy and for less if your willing to wait a year after delivery.

@@BoardGameCo I think if the ip draws gamers to back a kickstarter boardgame which I'm sure it's doing, there will be a influx of that market trying to get rid of it after the newness wears off. Which would probably be in general higher than a non ip boardgame. I could be wrong because they might just put it in the closet and never bother selling it. If the game gets close to selling 10 or 12k copies, I would imagine you will see maybe up to 10% oversaturation in the trade forums after a year or so. Lol, but only time will tell and that would probably be 4+ years from now.
