Man, I just wanted to make you know how much you helped me in improving not only my grades in college, but also my life, my stress, my time managmente, and a lot more.
I really like your energy and your attitude, I hope I could see you one day and hug you, lol (I'm from Uruguay tho').
Also, I can see the improvement of the quality of your videos in each video, which is awesome!
I never ask for likes, but I hope you guys reading this help me to reach his attention, cause I know most of you guys feel the same.
Thank you Thomas, for real, keep it going!

I tried following the pomodoro technique and it didn't work out so well. The initial 25 minutes would make me focused but when the break would come I felt like that I had disrupted the focus that I built up in the first 25 minutes. Also the 5 minute break felt a little too short for me.
What I did instead was to set it to 45 min work and 15 min break and now I am working SO much better. I really like the concept but would recommend people to tweak the intverals to suit it better for themselves.

I also find 25 minutes to be too small of a time window to get any significative amount of work done, unless it happens to be a very small task. Better for me a larger amount.

I have tried the Pomodoro technique for years and never found it helpful UNTIL I got Forest. I use it every day. I love my collection of trees, I am motivated not to "kill" one by quitting in the middle of a 25min session, I can track my daily, weekly and monthly progress, and I enjoy spending coins on upgrades like ambient noise or new tree designs. I'll give Tide a try someday, but for now, Forest works for me. Highly recommend spending the 2 bucks.

It works for me, but I do make a list. Due to low dopamine it helps me focus which is my main problem. After about 15 minutes I feel like I'm going to die if I don't break. Then when 20 minutes is over and I have total focus, I get excited and wired. Glad to hear you don't have to break after 25 minutes.

The thing is, that might actually be a good way to ease into it, you could literally set and use the timer exactly like that, there is no reason it is impossible to do so. Then every so often, say every 10 days, you increase the work end by 5 more mins at a time until you get to where you are doing a more significant amount of work and less procrastination.

I've been using the Tide app since watching this video last week and it honestly has increased my productivity SO much. I've been able to sit down and study with no interruptions for up to two hours. I finished a lab report in roughly six hours, which normally would've taken me a total of nearly eight by the time I put my phone down and started working. I also was able to read and type up a book synopsis in only eight hours, including my short five minute breaks every 45 mins or so. Thank you for this video! I'm definitely going to recommend the Pomodoro technique to friends and classmates.

something that i've actually learned through years of procrastinating is that procrastination is a habit and even if you start doing better during the first few months of school you will eventually go back procrastinating school works bc you're not used in doing productive things unless you really take your time to break out of that bad habit and start practising to become productive in that way you'll start getting used to it and you start to find things to do when you're not doing anything :)) hope this helps

I didn't know about writing down the list of attempted distractions, really helpful.
Another huge thing for me is exercise. My body hates sitting there getting fat and achey. So having an actual break between each 25 mins and actually doing something - ideally returning to the task with a racing heart having done done pull ups, trampoline or skipping or push-ups or a tiny run out anything is awesome

    Oh my goodness!!
I had major problems with procrastination for many years. It has caused me untold amounts of unhappiness and severe depression, and caused me to massively under-achieve. Then a couple of months ago I had quite a busy day and decided to tackle it by writing down a to do list (something I had done many times before with terrible results) but this time devoting chunks of time to each of the tasks, so I told myself I had to do them within that timeframe or move on. Please note I had NEVER heard of the Pomodoro Method before watching this video. I used my mobile phone as a timer and noticed something interesting. Because I had to complete the tasks within the given times, I was really FOCUSSING on what needed to be done, which also reduced the number of distractions I gave into, which also used to be another huge problem. I found that using chunks of time (usually half an hour for me depending on what needs to be done) was the key. If you don’t complete the task, you can’t cross it off your list and I got a serious reward buzz from completing my tasks and crossing them off as complete!! Keeping to do lists and using a timer for tasks has quite literally transformed my life, it’s amazing. My days are now hugely productive. I came across this video because of another that Thomas had done on speedreading. I am so excited with my changes I was seeing what else I might be capable of achieving!!

I used to procrastinate a lot. Pomodoro has helped me a lot in avoiding it. I had started 25-5 slots, and now I can usually do 10-12 pomodoros a day.

I started using sticky notes on my computer to keep track of everything. The colors allow me to categorize talks. The layout allows me to prioritize items. Anytime I think of something, just put it on the list and I know it won't be lost. It helps me know what's next and I also write out actions instead of goals.

I love that you point out that the beginning of the project is where you suffer from the worst procrastination. I realized I actually struggle with it the most around the 3/4 mark. Do you have any thoughts or recommendations on that? I am definitely use this technique & love it, just wanted to see if there were any differences you might have found between where people suffer from procrastination. Thanks!

I like Strict Workflow for Chrome. It's a Pomodoro timer, but it also allows you to block sites, while the timer is running. That way you can prevent yourself from browsing sites you shouldn't.

Is it just me or is watching every useful video on YT a marathon of pain? It takes ages to get through, its like being strangled to death for a couple of minutes. At least when you are a procrastination wizard.

This is great stuff, but I found that the Pomodoro Technique is very tricky to apply to your tasks throughout the day, so I often need to show people a full day on me calendar and how I organize things to fit the 25-minute model, for them to get a hang of it.

I'm not sure if you've made a video about it, but, I started studying a few weeks ago and shortly after bumped into "Study Bunny", which is basically a tracking app/almost game, I find it extremely helpful and thought more people watching this video might enjoy it as well, it (the bunny)even gets "sad" when you skip a day of studying 😆, it's super cute! great video BTW! I appreciate the tips, I got used to joking about my procrastination but truth is it sucks, especially for people like me, that struggle with ADHD as well... as you pointed, it's really all about getting into the "flow", once I'm there I can study for hours, sometimes I even forget to eat when I'm immersed in a new Study topic....
