Yess sir! Gotta love Jake
Hey vexx!
Thanks Vexx!!
He is the best
Wait, Vexx is popular now?
Thanks for video. Congrats Jake, amazing Channel! Greetings from Madrid
I'm kind of loving these frequent uploads! They help shed some light and pass the time while I work on my lines. These shorter videos are excellent for a break too. Sometimes these videos demand my full attention because they resonate with me. They are quite interesting.
Thanks Katie!
Very useful. been wanting to read Deep Work for a while, very reinforcing for my old school thought of focus, attention, and one thing at a time. Thanks for making this video!
Thank you! I am currently on “Atomic Habits” and I was impressed when I first read those excerpts as well.
I will have to check the others! Great video!
Thank you Jake for sharing these books and the notes in them. It's really made me think about things.
Very good! Thanks for the indicatons and for sharing your lessons about them.
absolutely awesome video and thank you so much for pointing out the main points that you found important!
Thank you for this Jake!
Thank you Jake! THank you so much for this!
Awesome content, and very helpful as I've been struggling while taking on what for me is a huge endeavor with creative and business elements to balance. I just pulled out the pen and paper to write my way out of this morass, took a pause for some tea, and up pops your video into my feed. Sometimes these algorithms deliver with synchronicity. Subscribed.
Definitely gonna pick those up! Thanks, Jake!
Bouncing off the topic of this video, I personally also very highly recommend the book Art and Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland. Making art is difficult and full of fears whether it be fear of your art, yourself, how your art is in the world, etc. this book addresses it all. It's such a great read when you're in need of a bit of support or in doubt sometimes and I find myself flippjng through it every once it a while. It was first published in like, 1994 but is still so relatable and relevant to this day!
Second this comment. Art and Fear is on the short list of fundamental books for anyone doing artwork. Loved it. Will re-read it.
I love Art and Fear. Might make a follow up video to this one with The War of Art as well.
@@jakeparker44 Awesome!!
Thanks for the recommendation! I loved reading Deep work and Atomic habits 😃
I just finished Deep Work, and it was great. I'm now employing many of the techniques from this book in my life, and hoping it will help with my focus. Some are harder than others --- it's hard for me to not check social media every few minutes T__T --- but I know it's important for me to use my time on quality things.
I have another book I want to read (Thou Shall Prosper, about changing one's money mindset, suggested by a friend) before hopping back into your suggestions list again.
Cool! So glad you found it helpful.
And I now have placed holds on them at the library. Thank you for the suggestions!
I have loved these books too, but it was interesting to see what resonated with you. You highlighted things that didn’t stand out to me at first, especially in Atomic Habits. Great food for thought. Thank you!
Atomic Habits - It’s in my iBooks want to read list, just got bumped up to my next read!
Thanks for sharing!
Nice to see videos are coming back!
Now, I wonder how do you develop a system for creatives?
Love this! Its so much concrete than trying to find something that maybe applies to art/creative people!
ANOTHER VIDEO YAY 🎉 Thank you for making these video’s! Your video’s are a great help.
Hi
@@bread7431 Hi 👋
This was amazing Jake! Deep Work is a book I really want to checkout. Also, I would request you to do a new studio tour since we havent seen your new studio! Thanks!!
Another great video
I learned something here, thanks Jake!
A video of Jake Parker every day keeps idea of not drawing away
Thank you❣️
Thank you so much!
Eyyy, I love book recommendations! I'll check these out. And thanks for making this three books rather than a huge list; it makes it more realistic that I and others will actually read these, and isn't overwhelming while also offering valuable info.
I originally had pulled 6 books from my shelf for this video, but then I was like, that’s a lot of books. So I picked the better 3. I might do the other three another day.
@@jakeparker44 I like that idea. It makes the videos easy to consume, but also lets all the information about your recommendations be available for people who want more.
I have some recommendations for you, Jake! I'm currently reading the Win Without Pitching Manifesto by Blair Enns, and though it's written more for graphic designers, it's a great way to reframe how to talk to clients as a creative practitioner. I also think you might like Art + Faith by Makoto Fujimura. It's a dive into how art and faith in God collide, how creative minds are uniquely positioned to pour light into the world, and was an incredible inspiration to me when I read it.
Thank you!
@@jakeparker44 I would love to know the other three :D . I'm was already reading atomic habits, this was a sign to finish it and start the others.
Thanks some great thoughts here.
Good video, I've got plenty of food for thought now. Thanks Jake!
Reinventing Comics is a good read that encourages comic creators to think outside the box and try new creative avenues.
Omg finally missed your vids
Great video. Thanks for making this. I've read 2 of the 3, Atomic Habits and Real Artists Don't Starve, in the past year, and both have changed the way I work and think about work (and life). I have Deep Work on my Kindle ready to go.
By the way, James Clear has an excellent weekly email.
Love his newsletter!
I've read almost all of these books. At this point what's holding me back are time and direction.
Great!
Great Work Jake.... you are a nice guy... I hope we will meet some day
I've definitely heard all of these books mentioned on a few different sources and have yet to read any of them! Haha, I should get on that! 😂
I have Deep Work. It really opened my eyes to how bad I was at multi-tasking.
These were all exactly what I need to read right now I think. I am going to read them and come back to this comment but so far I think it’s incredibly helpful!
Video suggestion Jake: How to come up with greay ideas for comics. I know you have videos for writing, but comicng up with ideas is really hard.
He’s hit on this before in a previous video, see filling your creative bank (consuming media, reading, living life).
Go with your gut feeling, what makes you excited? Flesh it out. Copy a story (Hellboy etc) and throw your character into it instead… make changes to copied story. Just get the gears turning!
@@Poweranimal84 I've watched that. But that's not what I meant. It's something else, i don't really know how to describe it
I’ve got an idea of how I could approach this again.
@@jakeparker44 nice. I can't wait jake. I used to have a lot of ideas for comics before. But when I started making full illustrations and doing it for almost a year. My ideas for comics are kinda dry.
… I just have too many ideas! 4 to 5 stories in my head ready to go!
hi jake sir , what did you mean by "write short stories , ( minimum viable story ) " . did you mean that to write short stories of a single charachter or write different stories which are note related to each other . write reffers to making a comic .
continue making videos on books and comic making
Hey Sadiq, what you write and create depends on what you want to accomplish. The whole point of an MVS is to train you to do bigger and more demanding stories, by starting out small and working your way up.
@@jakeparker44 I always wanted to make a universe of characters just like you . So , what do you suggest ? Shall I be working on a character in my universe and write a short story on it or write normal stories so that I will gain experience and improve my skills ?
I would work on stories about your main character.
@@jakeparker44 thank you so much
Dose anybody know the release date for Inktober All Year Long?
🔥🧡🔥
Hi
😀
It’s not so much like you handing me your glasses as it is like you suggesting that the way I can escape a bear chasing me is to stop and read a book about how to escape a bear. Yes, it’s good information but I already don’t have the time or focus to consume it.
Maybe there’s an audiobook...
There are audiobooks for these! I was about to look these up on Amazon when I realized I already owned two of them (and had never listened to them) on Audible. It feels weird listening to a book about not multitasking while also multitasking, but....
Hey o have deep work
Recaping the books:
