A profile of singer/ actress Julie Andrews about making "The Julie Andrews Hour" by Blake Edwards.
ABC; Aug 24th, 1972
Music: Nelson Riddle
Producer/ Director: Blake Edwards
Choreography: Tony Charmoli
Julie’s consonants (& how she handled them) were THE reason she was so articulate, perfectly understandable, even when singing.
I love this documentary! It shows the real julie and she's exactly how we all thought she is, beautiful, smart, hardworking, loving, fun, fresh, talented and practically perfect in every way. I also love how it gives an insight into how she works and lives with her family...
This woman has been such a hard worker since she was a kid. Her talent knows no boundless. Her voice is such a gem. Beautiful lady, a one of a kind star!
This is such a gem of a documentary...simply amazing....even though the Julie Andrew's hour was critically acclaimed (winning 7 Emmy's out of the 10 nominations it recieved)... its a shame that the ABC network goofed up with the timings, constantly changing them which resulted in low ratings and just one season....i feel like no one was actually able to utilize and showcase it to the audience Julie's talent a 100%....and she was and is always brilliant in what she does, such a hard worker, amazing singer, actress, performer, writer, mother, wife and everything...a huge thank yo her and Blake for this documentary...Queen and an icon for life♥🙌.
By the time the "Julie Andrews Hour" got cancelled, Julie (as per her memoirs) had gotten tired of doing TV on a weekly basis, so perhaps it's just as well that the series got cancelled after one season.
I love how normal and down-to-earth she is, and very career-driven. This really highlights just how strong her work ethic was and is, and she always maintained that work-life balance.
35:34 God, she still had it, as pretty, outstanding and glorious as she did 'in the hills' years ago. Listening and watching her singing rehearsals, with techique and vocalization are simply beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this gold masterpiece with all!
Imagine all the people that worked with her and for her. And are still making a living off of her to this day. she is something wonderful and is a tremendous treasure!!!
I was 12 years old when the Julie Andrews Hour premiered. And I was so excited! The first movie I ever saw, was Mary Poppins, and I was just 4 years old. Ever since Julie Andrews has been my favorite singer/movie star! So when she had her Television show. I was beside myself with joy. I remember those shows with such joy and fondness! I used to record each one on a tape cassette and then later listen to it as I would daydream or want to relax. I wore out those cassette tapes, LOL.
I remember doing the same thing in the 80ties. Taping Mary Poppins on 2 (90 mins each) cassette tapes and listening to the entire movie about every evening.
I use to record tv shows on cassette too..
Love this piece! A diamond of a memory! Great to have this behind the scenes bravo Blake Edwards..RIP
LOVE YOU JULIE!
Thanks. Fascinating stuff, and so much work involved. No wonder this show won a basketful of Emmy's. And lovely to hear Julie and Emma singing Handel on the beach. Cheers.
Jennifer was the singing partner for the Handel.
@@chrisnorton4382 Yes.Thank you. I corrected it, but they deleted my correction. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing all these. Simply amazing..
Thanks for sharing your work, family, and gifts with us. I love your positive, respectful outlook and the hard work you have put in to entertain us. You are a great role model from what you have shared with us since I was young in the 70’s up until the present. Sincerely, Lisa.
What an amazing discovery!
Such a joy to see the behind the scenes!
What a wonderful companion piece this makes for Julie's upcoming book, "Home Work"!
Nice also to see choreographer Tony Charmoli, who I worked with on the Mitzi Gaynor Show.
Right? That’s how o started searching for all of her work. Reading “Home” she spoke about so many (early) movies and tv specials I’d never heard of.
Couple of thoughts, first is why didn't Julie write more music? I would have loved to hear more of her own melodies. Secondly, as different as her and Blake were, you can see in these candid moments just how thoughtful and sensitive he was with her. He let her make her decisions, guided her when she needed it, and cherished her when she needed it, which ended up being the perfect match to her after all.
marlenejojo1 reviews of movie that’s life
Thank you Julie for your wonderful talent. Congratulations to you & your husband Blake! Indeed you're a wonderful tandem! ❤🎉❤😂
While reading her latest book "Home Work" you can see so many of these moments she's written down in this documentary.
Strange, isn’t it? How some more insight into her way of thinking changes your perception on scenes in movies and songs? It just goes to show you what an incredible strong willed person Julie is.
This is the best thank you for posting
I love this woman! Watching her rehearsing and just being with her family would have been a joy to see each week.
Wow, what a professional - how lucky that Blake Edwards made this documentary. It's wonderful to see an artist like her working - no nonsense but balanced - taking pleasure in her work, her family and her gifts. Glad the newyorker recommended this.
You’re welcome!
❤️ Thank You ❤️
In spite of talent and brains, it was still hard work.
I think everyone in the world can relate to Julie’s indecision. A wise person once said to me that every decision is 49/51. That’s about right!
She and Blake were WAY ahead of the times...this was the first Reality Show...and now we see The Kardashians making billions out it.
Maybe, except for the Kardashians neither have talent nor do they have any interesting to tell. *shrugs*

Too bad to bring the Kar-trashians into it -- they aren't fit to be mentioned in the same forum-- when you see an actual superstar like Julie, one of the most talented and gifted to ever walk this earth, it only makes me cry for our present barren world of so-called 'entertainment'. However I am glad for shows like The Voice which can still occasionally prove some people are still born with an incredible set of pipes. The question is will future generations recognize true talent when they see it, or will their senses be dulled by Kar-trashian farces?
Nothing like it
@@wandajames6234 well said Wanda. The k. family is a joke !
Well, I think among all the characters that she played, she resembles more of Maria from TSOM. Lovely, hardworking, and like what she said in an interview, sometimes "scattered-brained" 😂 She's so lucky to have Blake by her side.
She's the most hardest working woman I love her!!!
Blake how do you get the other side of the marshmallow cooked? go around to the other side. I love it!!!
🤣🤣🤣
Either I'm getting too old or they ask too much... I'm not sure which.
מרגשת!
Julie Andrew I don't know how she does it staying beautiful also good actrees my name is heather ha
Thoroughly modern Millie
I am just wondering. I dont hear much or non about her two adoptive daughter. It seems its always just Emma on the picture. Just curious and a thought.
@E C At this point (1972) they had not been adopted. However, they are often present, but seem to go unnoticed. Even her daughter Amelia appeared in Princess Diaries 2, because that day she was visiting her mom on set, and they took her as an extra. However, they don't seem to have an interest in showbusiness. Watch this video at minute 0:23. Here: ua-cam.com/video/sEAAL9fiv80/v-deo.html Or 3:09 here: ua-cam.com/video/Hw1B4ko1CM8/v-deo.html
They weren’t adopted at this point, but Amy and Joanna (her adopted daughters) they don’t really do show-biz so they aren’t in the picture so much but Julie said in an interview that she visits them as much as can.
🙏🙏🙏😘🙏🙏🙏
As much as I saw her t.v show each week. I don’t think I saw this doc.
Wasn't MR Edwards directing that movie with William Holden and Ryan O'Neil that time?

I think she is wonderful not much of a fan of her late husband he was a creep
Julie was my inspiration in music. Now I know tons of people have said that , but I really mean it. When I was very young her music was some of the 1st I was exposed to. I was having trouble learning to speak but listening to Julie sing helped me in many ways find my voice. I learned to speak listening to her & her influence continued throughout my life. I was one of the youngest people ever admitted to our adult church choir. Then i gained early admission to a very good music college. I'm sure I would have continued but not too long after I got into college I was called home to help care for my Grandparents and later my mother. I would never change a thing every experience has shaped me into who i am today. I still sing but mostly for my own pleasure. Thank you for being an inspiration and a teacher. Your voice your words can mend a soul. Yes meeting Julie Andrews is a bucket list item but I also realize one I may never see. So my many many heartfelt thanks.
You I would like to know better. god bless you.
This is a precise film testimony of what she poses in her new book Home Work. What a wonderful relationship theirs as a couple and with their children!
arthagnan020 And how hard she worked!
Gosh all the things you uploaded make my day! Thanks !!
Adorei o documentário. Julie Andrews fantástica!
Dame Julie. Disney legend. The only one with the cred to be a Disney Queen.
What a truly amazing gift this film is-- thank you so much! I'm so thrilled and fascinated to see this behind the scenes montage. If Julie's song that says "Time to Go" is NOT played when she does, heartbreakingly, leave us, it would be a tragic oversight, even though that time-- and hearing her say 'goodbye' in her own beautiful song-- would wrench the heart out of a stone. It certainly will mine, therefore we simply cannot let her go..... thankfully she will have left behind so much of herself that she never will really be gone. Julie-- the brightest star ever-- she could do it all, with style, intelligence, beauty, kindness, and grace.
Oh dont make cry...i cant think of her leaving us.
She reminds me of Princess Diana
Interesting observation. There's indeed a certain physical resemblance, and of course there's some similarity in speech. But very different people.
At 5:40 she's so intent on remembering her lines while she's talking to her dance instructor. I love her face going through the numbers. she's always doing her homework
Incredible.love it♥️♥️♥️
Always love JULIE....however this docu...was much ado about..."not much"......l remember seeing this moons ago ...you can NEVER anticipate what will or will NOT.be successful...the public is very fickle..all this angst was.for naught...Carol Burnett.certainly didnt put herself thru all this. "What ifs"and turned out....HUGELY SUCCESSFUL....
The what ifs are good though, julie is worried about leaving the kids and figuring if it’s worth it. It’s good she’s talking it through, and I’m sure carol didn’t just dive into it she probably spoke to people too
As if she didn’t already have the reputation of being an exemplar of the perfection of virtue, she adds motherlove to the mix.
Rest in peace .
Her Wangdoodle book was my FAVORITE as a kid
She was so terribly thin! But a goddess indeed ❤️❤️ I do love her!
Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards are very wonderful 👍🏻😁
Julie Andrews is my 2nd cousin and not very family oriented on my side of the family!! Don’t believe everything that is ‘portrayed’
What’s your point and reason for posting this twice!!? She’s famous and you’re not.. Sounds like you’re a jealous person spewing poison. Do you think you’re able to single handedly change the public’s opinion about her?? I think not.. I feel sorry for you. I hope you find peace and your own place in the world rather than being entitled to someone else’s rewards from their hard work..
