This LEGO build is staggering

- Once upon a time I tried to make a 40 layer version of this design--but it turned out the finished build wouldn't fit through a standard doorway. 😂
I give you four staggered circles. Here are the specs for each:
6 layers - circumference: 50 staggered 1x2 plates - diameter: 22cm
12 layers - circumference: 80 staggered 1x2 plates - diameter: 33cm
18 layers - circumference: 124 staggered 1x2 plates - diameter: 51cm
24 layers - circumference: 177 staggered 1x2 plates - diameter: 72cm
Piece Breakdown (in 1x2 plates):
6 layers (300), 12 layers (960), 18 layers (2232), 24 layers (4248)
You'll note that the inner and outer circumference (in staggered 1x2 plates) is the same on each build--which might strike you as odd. This is because the build can compress and expand. The six layer build (unbent) has a length of ~56cm when compressed, and ~66cm when expanded.
This is build is so simple, and yet the results are so striking. And it really looks amazing in good light. 😁

The effect of it stretching and compressing is one of the coolest emergent behaviors you've found.
Agreed.
You’re right, it does boggle my mind that the outer and inner edge contain the exact same amount of pieces and yet the circumference is different! That’s so cool! :O
it's stability standing on it's edge actually made me open my eyes more than normal, it surprised me that it didn't tip over.
Am I the only one that wants to see the caveman ride on the interior of these builds as they spin? Come on, man. Have a little barf bag ready for him and let's roll!
Oh that fills me with regret! What a great idea and opportunity lost. But perhaps there's a supplemental YT short in caveman's future. 😁
Your caveman is impressed that you keep managing to redesign the wheel.
My mind is completely boggled after seeing this. It’s so seamless, but it’s basically just a bunch of connected 1x2 brick towers
Exactly! I still enjoy these and I've had them for many years. They're just amazing.
Interesting to see how the plates for the first circle had started to develop a 'memory' from previously being flexed into circles. How much longer before they become too loose, I wonder..?
Do you ever 'glue' any favourite sculptures that you want to keep as permanent display items, or are they all just held together by studs and 'willpower'..?
Here's an idea for a series, because, well, why not?
Take an already made set of legos (creator, etc), and turn it into something awesome & Maybe publish the instructions so others can build new things as well. This would be really cool
You mean a MOC?
The bending technique is betrayed a bit by the fact that the starting pieces do not stay flat on the surface 😉. Nice build!
I know! Part of it is that the build can contain 'bend' without any stress, and those pieces just would not settle back to flat. 😅 C'est la vie.
Nice. I knew there would be a bigger one and at the end I wasn't disappointed.
Idk why, but the gloves are really unsettling. There’s just something a lot more comforting about seeing actual human hands touch the LEGO
I'm not a huge fan of the gloves, but some days my beat up old hands should not be in front of a 4k camera. This is my current happy compromise.
@@BrickBending That’s fair, just expressing some feedback. Keep up the great work otherwise!
@@NinjagoTheory I genuinely appreciate feedback. Thank you!
i kinda liked the "snooker referee breaks lego rules" aesthetic :)
@@BrickBending I think bare hands look best, but the black gloves were better than these white ones.
Im rlly praying that in the future humanity will invent a cloning device
I think most people would agree. Unfortunately it kinda breaks the rule that you can't make something out of nothing
@@Jonkenstonk The cloning process doesn't make something out of nothing
@@Jonkenstonk idea: get a dead body, and transpo- oh, how do we transport information…
I wish that whenever you use the black bricks, that you would put into your builds, some colored bricks so that we can see the proper patterns, of the design...so that we can replicate these, ourselves!
such fantastic builds! glad to see you're protecting your hands!
I am completely incapable of passing up on a brick bending video 💜
When you go to the LEGO store and get carried away with that one slot on the pick-a-brick wall:
The white gloves were a nice touch
That is so Cool!
loving the bloopers
At the end, I thought it will end with a giant lego sphere
Artist engineering underrated
Absolutely amazing! 😎🤩👍
If I were to do this I would probably create a lego explosion by trying to put this together
The small one definitely didn't want to stay together. 😅
"All these rectangles make a circle... all these rectangles make a circle..."
That is so cool
Awesome
Very cool!
You should make a Minecraft FireFly!
You should try making a Lego bicycle wheel and then test it out…would be cool
Mind boggling indeed.
All you need is $2000 and you too can build all of these rings!
I wonder how stable it would be to stack multiple rings of the same size ontop of each other.
Or even slightly increased size with each ring set ontop so it would look like a tornado. 🤔
The size of that fourth one was... staggering.
Ok, this time you caught me off-guard :D
very nice
2:45
I feel this, or perhaps the size larger, is that of record. Hard to tell though. Anyway you should try to expand on that and make an actual replica of a record. Not operational of course, it’d just be cool.
These must be so time consuming
From my experience with Lego, and trying to make some bending sculptures myself, i can estimate that smallest circle can be built in about hour and half, depends on skill of the builder. But the bigger the circle, the more time it will take (duh), biddest one can take about 6-8 hours, i bet.
👍
nice gloves
i think they're for eczema sufferers. it's a way to help against scratching. i had them when i was a youngun
how much time does it take to make and deconstructe these damn!
Big donut
I think that's possible... loop the inner edge out to connect to the outer edge, to make a solid version of the slinky donut he made recently.
Do the gloves protect your hands from lego injury?
I love 💕 it I bet you could make an eye 👁 use blue or green 🤗👀✅😉💗😂🥰kewl dude
liking the gloves 👍
I would watch an 1-2 hour long video of you methodically putting together each brick. People would watch it to fall asleep or for asmr. You should consider it Brick bending I think it might get decent views. Plus if you have a lot of raw unedited footage it wouldn't be that much more effort to upload the whole thing. Either way awesome builds man keep it up
Saturn rings be like: 3:20
how long do these take to make holy
I'm beginning to suspect you have a secret duplication exploit
🤫
How did that even work with the biggest one?
Making that final connection on the biggest one was a pretty crazy endeavor. It would be fun to film that one day, but that build is so old I'm not 100% sure it would come back together again properly. But it was epic!
ya should make a crown and wear it.
Do the larger rings have to be thicker to keep themselves from pulling apart?
No. The smallest ring has maximum tension because it has a lot more curvature. The larger rings can actually bend into a 'C' shape and stay there without being connected. But I did try to build these so that they have maximum tension / rigidity without being too close to failure. Plus the larger rings just look more amazing. 😁
@@BrickBending thanks for replying. That makes a lot of sense now that you say it. My son and I really enjoy your vids.
it looks like a thin tire
Why don't you use the same pattern to build a slinky ?
Did not spin last ring... Not happy
So simple you just need 576 1x2 plates, $40.32 (CAD)
Play or craft legos too much will hurt our fingers, so is that the reason you have to wear gloves?
It's mostly that my beat up old hands just shouldn't be in front of a 4k camera sometimes.
As a lego builder myself I can appreciate the time it took to do this really cool build
Mind-boggling?
It is for me 😊
Nobody is talking about the caveman with the cringe spear
simple you say?
It's all relative 😊
The gloves are creepy
I was definitely giving off Mickey Mouse vibes at times.
Imagine having that much to make this
If you actually made that your a lego god
why the gloves
Legon't
Ha, I am second
l'amico qua o prende il reddito o non ha un cazzo da fare
eh, simple effect, nothing mind blowing!
Fair.
