Question: I keep hearing the noise gate is not good at all. What’s your thought? Keep in mind, I would Not be using the red channel. I am mainly an 80s tone guy.
The noise gate only works on the red channel. It's actually not bad for quieting the amp down. It doesn't do the quick djent type of gate stuff since it a bit slower. It does do a very good job of not cutting off your notes. I still use a gate anyway to keep thing extra quiet but I think for people who don't already use them in their setup it's really cool that it has one on there. If you're only using channel 1 the gate doesn't do anything on that channel
Question. When it comes to noise, my 6505+ is loud as hell. Is the iconic a more quiet amp in terms of white noise? As it as has the built in noise gate. I haven’t heard people talking about this as I’d love to know before I buy the iconic
The clean setting is very quiet. The dirty settings are just as loud as the 6505+ without the noise gate on. The noise gate does help a lot but if you're using an overdrive you will still need your own noise gate to keep things quiet. The noise gate on the Iconic is more like a noise reduced rather than a traditional gate. It is a great feature and does help a lot. For this video I used a noise gate pedal inbetween the overdrive and the front of the amp. I also had the Iconic noise gate set at 11 O'clock
Thanks! It's a little hard to explain. The Iconic was more pleasing to practice with. After playing the 6505+ for a while it started to hurt my head because it's a little more harsh. But in this mix the 6505+ came through better and sang a little more with the delay. The Iconic more easy to play and the 6505+ was more revealing. I had to play a little better with the 6505+ because it doesn't hide your notes as much. I think the Iconic would get classic Van Halen tones more easily since it sort if has that variac'd sound
I know I commented last night but it seems like EVH is following the Apple upgrade philosophy which is meager differences between models and counting on their loyal customers and Eddie fan boys to empty their wallets accordingly.
Well yes and no. Is it a way to get 5150 tones to people at a cheaper price? Yes. Us it a way for them to make a lot of money for very little effort? Also yes. Either way, if they out out another amp in the future I'll be playing that too!
@@steveo041 I would be up for a 1x 12 combo only because my Peavey 5150 combo is about the dumbest amp I have ever moved. Last time I had to take it down stairs I gave serious consideration to kicking it down the stairs.🤡
@@steveo041 It’s a bit of relief for me. I have a 5150 combo and I have been seeing all these comparison videos where they A/B EVH amps against Peavey 5150’s and 6105’s. I felt like maybe I was missing out. Now I know I don’t need one.
@@steveo041 I agree! Its great for metal rhythms but doesn't have a variety of options or tones for anything else. Sometimes the tone was a bit thin sounding but I think it's just all about taste.
Awesome playing Steve! You and Jarrod make it look so easy! Nice tone to boot!
Thanks man! The amps help a lot. Once you are getting good sounds it gives you motivation and energy to play better 🤌🤌
@@steveo041 Absolutely, new Gear in general if it's good will inspire you to play and come up with something different.
I have the original 5150 block letter logo amp and I’m going to do a side-by-side comparison with the new
5150 Iconic.
Can't wait to check it out!
Always great to hear ya rip bro …jarrod stuff …this was great
Thanks buddy! His backing track for this song sounded HUGE!
Dayum!! Killer playing!!
Thank you!! 🙏🤜🤛
Nice tone and playing . 🤘🎸
Thanks Sean! Really appreciate that!

Damn you can rip on guitar!! Very impressive skills!! Great tone! My 5150 doesn’t sound that badass, I blame my lack of killer guitar playing.
Thanks man! I'm sure you can get your amp there. The overdrive and pickups help a lot!
Awesome! So what's your verdict between the two?

Not much of a difference.

@@keenedgedesigns Glad this helped!
Never liked the Peavey 6505+
It's an interesting amp. Unfortunately it only has one sound. It does that sound well but that's all you get
