Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. This is so relatable. I am a person who is very fulfilled by the work that I do and have also experienced the let down at the realization that employers could let me go unexpectedly and so easily after giving so much of myself to them. I will also say that each time I experienced something like this, after some time it would seem like my previous experiences had prepared me for the next chapter. I will be thinking of you and your husband and truly feel that you will find a great new adventure moving forward.

Oh wow, I love that, Lori! Thank you so much for sharing. Southern Indiana was indeed beautiful. So many wooded areas and rolling hills. And water! My gosh, the lakes/ponds/streams were everywhere and I loved it. I imagine it's even 10x more beautiful in the spring/summer and esp. the fall. It was fun to see such a diverse array of trees: maples, oaks, even willows. And the dogwoods!! Wow, those were in full bloom and a real treat to see xx
Ok, I am honestly intrigued by your stylish lifestyle living in such remote and rural areas. I live in a suburb outside of large cities, but it feels close enough for city living. I work from home most times and find that I still don’t get a chance to pull on all my clothes that I love. Do you still dress in your fashionable clothes or do you tend wear just more casual pieces considering your locality and day to day?
Hi! One of our neighbors is a retired hippie and he loves to tease me about putting on fashion shows for the pine trees haha. In the winter, my style is 100% athleisure inspired and utilitarian - comfy but still pulled together. However, in the warmer months it's all about those dreamy wide leg linen pants and pretty sundresses. It makes zero sense for me to dress this way considering where I live, but I can't help myself xx
@@KateBenz Love it that you change the vibe of your dressing by season and give yourself the ok to wear athleisure type clothing during the cooler months. That matches my natural tendency of just wanting to be comfy during the winter. I’m going to have to work on incorporating more of my other clothes during other times. Really amazing. Prayers are powerful. I think you were on point with your explanation of how your faith and strength supports your husband as well as conveying all your husband does for you. I rent my home out but make sure you get a great property management company( mine only charges 8 % and they are incredible) they take care of everything background check / credit check / references/ the lease/ they do 6 month walk through to make sure the house is being kept. The lord is incredible darling he is with you. Hang in there in your job, AI IS THE LATEST, but it is money right. So glad to hear you have a collaboration, book and your side hustles. I have a friend that tried living here in Oregon from Indiana and they had to go back. They love Indiana. Is your husband a train conductor?
Hello, my friend! Great words of advice and I also love how your property management company does a 6-month walk through. He does have his conductor's card and has experience operating the train, but had been promoted into management when we moved out here. So, he has options for sure! xx
Watching your latest blog post and you may end up really liking southern Indiana. I went to Indiana University in Bloomington. Went back for a visit after almost 40 years and it's still a neat town. I remember southern Indiana, especially Brown county, being beautiful and the people friendly. BTW, I'm heading to Souix Falls for a wedding this fall and have planned a trip into the Black Hills that I'm really excited about. Best to you and your husband!
Hi! Indiana really was beautiful! I imagine it's even 10x more so in the spring, summer, and fall. We actually were about 90 mins from Bloomington. Initially we had a few houses in that area on our list of drive-by's, but ultimately decided the commute would be too long for my hubs. And I hope you enjoy your trip to the Black Hills this fall! xx

We set the tone, if we are anxious then the household becomes anxious. You are right on target! Show him what faith looks like. God may have brought this all to bring him to walking with Jesus, or a seed planted, through how you show him it can be.Thank God you have your parents. Continued prayers. My husbands job has taken us from West coast to the East coast and back West again. Leaving my kids as young adults and my elderly parents was brutal for my heart, but God got me through it, and I knew he would get me back to them and now grandkids❤

@@KateBenz Life in CA not bad - busy, a lot of reno work being done on our house (first floor flooded a week before Christmas X_X) but it's finally all getting fixed up. Weather today was nuts, we got a break in weather so the kids were able to do an egg hunt outside, they even got some hot tub time, then literally 3 hours later it's HAILING! Storm weather is nuts!

Thank you for your honesty and transparency in the situation you’re in. The same happened to us many years ago and God will walk you through this phase and you will be stronger and in a better place. Trust him. Wen went through the same. Same situation for me I am strong in my faith and my husband is not the same way. Stay strong for him and the way I know how to do it was to cut all my frivolous expenses, no amazing boxes. The anxiety went through the roof lol! Keep us posted it will be your testimony of his faith when you get to the other side and all the silver linings to come. Indiana

For my husband , he tends to struggle with any issues I may have that he can't personally fix. I try to not share those with him as it is too tough. My sister is my sounding board. Keep the faith and wishing good things in your future.

I think that tends to be a struggle for most men... not to throw out a cliche stereotype, but it seems like they have an innate desire and drive to fix things and when they can't, it somehow manifests as feeling a sense of failure. I have total faith that you will both land on your feet and be better than ever. When the dust settles you will look back and see how much God blessed and prospered you. Not sure what he does for the railroad but what does the future of railroads look like? Are there ways to investigate the direction that the Indiana Rail systems are going? He certainly doesn't want to make this big decision, move and then find out that they are in the very same financial circumstances that got him laid off in the first place. I think if he asks all the right questions in this interview process then a lot of your fears and worries might be put to rest. He's lucky to have your guidance to help him work you way through this next challenge. Best of everything.
Absolutely! And thank you for the kind words. I think, sadly, the railroad industry is feeling the pressure that most corporate entities do: that reducing their workforce is key to ensuring better dividends for stockholders. A lot of the Class 1 RR's like BNSF and even Class 2 RR's are now being bought and run by large investment firms who embrace this mentality. Ironically, my hubs lost his job even after he + his team set a record year of production and income for his railroad xx
You are doing exactly what you should be doing. Keep having conversations with the Lord. Believing that everything will be okay can be a real struggle, but I can see the strength that you have with His love in your heart. 🙏❤️

I’ve mentioned this to you before, but we moved from Washington State to South Dakota (east side) in August 2022. We had never lived anywhere else, but Washington. It was definitely God who did it. Long story short God moved us in less than two months after coming on a vacation here to see if we even would like it. No joke came on vacation, got two job offers, went home and listed the house, and we were back within two months. The one thing I wish I had done is wait on the Lord. Definitely praying for both of you.
I love your story, my friend! Being in God's waiting room is never easy, especially when you start to feel the pressure of "having" to do something. But you're right: his timing and ways of doing things are always best. He has this amazing way of working everything out. Even when it seems totally crazy! Although it is kinda funny when you can look back and say, "Oh yeah, God. I guess you really did know what you were doing." haha xx
Hey Kate. This is my first time commenting. Jeremiah 29:11 is my life verse. My testimony is like Job in the bible. My 1st husband left me for my best friend. We had built a home together. Then a few years later I married an abuser. We had 2 sons together. The home we were in, I bought over 4 yrs before we got married. I lost the home to him because he convinced me to quit my job in management to raise our sons. He then alienated our sons from me so when I tell you I have been through hell & back it's an understatement. The Holy Spirit reminded me that my home was never mine to begin with...everything is His. He provides it all. I have since purchased another home, but became disabled on the job & now have been diagnosed with cancer. I fully trust in the Lord to get me through. He is my ROCK. Please know that I am praying for you. Love you, but GOD LOVES YOU MORE ❤❤❤

Wow, our stories are so similar! My husband was laid off in December and is flying out for a 3rd interview in Nashville and we have never had plans of moving away from our amazing community in Florida. I am a believer but my husband is not and I am speaking those same verses over us and this decision. It's so scary but God has a plan for us!

Continue your journey & support. I have been a couple of very similar situations (I like to plan my life, however God seems to always have a different plan 🙂). Even though it was scary for me back then I just thought "Let go Let God." In the end it's His will even though I might question it- later it all comes together & makes sense. 🙏 for you both.

The Lord has had us move several times. And each time the move has been exactly as He ordered (though we could not see it at the time). It was not easy to up and move 4 kids , 4 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses each time. I have to admit that we had to leave my dream location (we even had a house built there exactly to our perfect specs). That was one hard move. BUT GOD! I had to decide to trust the Lord and in each time we can see His hand in it. And it was exactly where we were supposed to be for the new things He had in store. Hang in there = He knows what is best

Mail carriers make good money and have great benefits and they come home every night / they get holidays off/ they get vacation pay. I know he is depressed I can tell. Did you call better help darling
