I just dont see why anyone would want to play these remasters with the old graphics. The new graphics are so much better, plus, in my experience, when I did briefly try the old graphics on 1, 2, and 3 remasters, the game ran slower. From the brief glimpse of the upgraded graphics on Chronicles, it looks so great. I would never go back to the old style, unless there were performance issues.
I had a bug in AoD where i couldn’t beat a boss when playing as the guy and never beat it either. Since it was so janky too i never bothered to restart it. I also had a memory corrupting issue with the first TR on Saturn. The games early on were cursed for me.
2:17 I spoke to my dev friend who worked on 1-3 and they semi confirmed that the suit from Aspur who said it has Depth of Field was talking out his butt 🤣
I'm still hoping it at least releases in an acceptably finished state. The marketing hasn't even felt as significant as it was for the first remaster, and the announcement trailer hardly impressed me specifically with regard to the AoD footage. The first remaster wasn't all there when it released on Feb 14, and I hope they're not just capitalizing on the thematic date to force a sub-par effort out to the players. I'd rather they push the date and make it solid first. I still have access to my copies of IV and Chronicles, so I can more than wait. Whether I even want to plunge into AoD again will hinge heavily on what improvements they deliver to it.
AoD remaster will have multiple bug fixes all cut content restored. I brought the 1st 3 on launch and played on launch day they were all perfectly fine. Not sure what you mean by "the first remaster wasn't all there when it released on Feb 14" apart from a couple of things like not seein keys properly. but a quick F1 and you can easily see them. then switch back. If they breaks the game for you. then i dunno what to say.
@@alexcia3221 Oh boy. They were not "perfectly fine". Playing TR2, there were various texture glitches, one I remember vividly was in Bartoli's hideout, regarding glitchy water texture that actually hid a pickup. In TR3's high security compound, certain models showed up invisible. TR1 had water current visuals missing in the Lost Valley, and TR3's quicksand didn't animate like it should to indicate the danger. The expansions were especially unfinished, with the enhanced gold textures in Furnace of the Gods not being present in Kingdom, and the 3D textures in both Golden Mask and Lost Artifact not being nearly as fleshed out as the base games. Plus the incorrect re-use of TR2's snowmobile textures in Golden Mask when they're supposed to be different. All these had to be fixed in the following weeks or months. Modern controls had to be tweaked to be more effective for jumping, and photo mode was originally even more bare bones. Certain achievements/trophies weren't working properly on launch. I didn't even remember the tiny keys problem, but thanks for reminding me. There are a lot of glitches and unfinished visuals that many people didn't experience on day 1 because they most likely started with TR1 and didn't get to the other games until weeks later. But I played in a random order and noticed quite a bit due to being familiar. These things may seem small in the context of a new release, but let's be clear....these are *remasters.* Their big selling points are the enhanced features, most of which are cosmetic. If the enhanced features aren't up to par, then what's the point? If I have to toggle back to the old PS1 graphics (which look worse than the original PC version graphics) then what's the point? Outfit selection wasn't even a thing at launch. At best, a day one purchase is just a chance for people to own the games if they have no other way of accessing them. But as someone who does have access to the originals on PC and beaten them, the incentive really hinges on the new features actually being there. I shouldn't have to see one of my favorite levels on release and be disappointed by an unfinished visual overhaul that gets enhanced weeks after I'm already done. I'm sure that the new remaster may be worth its price *eventually.* I'll just have to wait a few months for all the patches to come out so that I'm not disappointed by my first playthrough on release.
@kayzaac TLDR, I skimmed, all these things you experienced I did not. Not one. Maybe the versions are different? Like the US version of AoD had a shit ton more bugs than the EUs version? I dunno.
The only thing I'm annoyed about is keeping the stupid stamina meter in Angel of Darkness. To this day the worst decision of the franchise. :( Was hoping they would remove that or at least make it optional.
A small addition about there being no Platinum trophy for 1-3 and no Platinum trophy for 4-6; there ARE platinums for the games on the PS4 versions of the games. The only exclusions are the expansion pack levels. Let's hope 4-6 have platinums for the PS4 versions.
I think if you manage to get all trophies in tomb raider 3 you deserve a totally unique trophy lol. Just finding where the hell to go, hidden levers, obscure and highly frustrating paths forward but very rewarding game.
@@splendidHQ Thanks. I forgot about that cheat code. I finished the game anyway. It takes a while to skip to level 17 for example, but the option is there and it's doable.
That‘s not true at all. The 6th one is not even build on a grid system. Also it originally had analog controls. You just try to be edgy with that statement.
@@SB-dc3pb I'm obviously not talking about that one game that didn't have the controls.. The original 5 games by design, have levels that are navigated with those controls in mind. Nothing edgy about it, just speaking the truth.
@@BsERossYet i played all three games with analogic and it plays like water. Your argument is non sense, since you can do anything with modern controls and the gameplay still the same.
@@gamer-px5cu The precision you get with the tank controls, is in tandem to the grid-like levels. It's all perfectly designed. With the 'modern' controls, you're losing the ability to jump backwards/ sideways and even side step/ backwards. You're literally not experiencing how it was intended, so my argument stands.
The US version was yeah. here in the UK i only encountered a couple. mostly just camera and sound bugs which were solvable by just reloading. i feel sorry for you US folks i've heard and seen the bugs you guys had to put up with :(
Major of people don't want Remakes, I and them just want the Core of these games the same and intact with some improvements. Remasters are fine and the only that players want. If you don't know the recent news I will tell you, the success of these Remasters is so much that the Devs are planning to do new Tomb Raider games on this Engine. Almost no one wants Remakes of these classic TR games
but Tomb raider 1-3 remastered still needs updates, objects disappear when they shouldnt, only happens in the remastered, inventory background randomly causes texture bugs and black lines, inventory opens itself after you close it bug, we still dont have level select and story so far like we did on PS1, they aint done with 1-3 so why bother moving to 4-6?? did this guy just say theres no platinum trophies? if he did his research, he'll know that the PS4 does have platinum trophies and PS5 doesnt, so TR-4-6 remastered will have platinum trophies, just PS4 only.
@alexcia3221 I think you definitely have more patience than I do because even though I have played some of the older ones back in the 90s the way that controls have evolved over time in the modern day just didn't transfer over well for me within these titles
@@RavenousSpectre only ask as i played the games with M&K as controller just wasn't right. then again controllers to me are uncomfortable been a PC gamer for over 20 years hah
@alexcia3221 yeah when you're really used to one way trying to go over to another format in terms of controls is kind of hard I've been a console gamer all of my life and just recently got into dabbling with PC gaming within the past couple years or so
No way you need them specs just to run an old game with new textures lol, That's overkill 😅 , Nothing going to stop people getting this on piratebay ! 😇
@ZacTheFirst That was what I thought, but I couldn't use tank controls, so I tried modern controls just to test, and I see that I finished many level, then the 3 games fast. I don't think I could do that with tank controls. Try you will see, the game feels great once you are used to modern controls
@webolabs as somebody who never played the TR games I tried modern controls, and the way jumping works is awful, and side-flipping and backflipping is also more difficult than it needs to be, you also can’t properly make Lara back up to a ledge to gain speed for a jump. Tank controls allow a lot more precision
@@ZacTheFirst You are right for the precision. But I'm used to it, it took me few gentle touches on the analog stick to be precise. For jumps I don't have any problems, sometimes I even finished a level in a few minutes because I jumped in places I'm not supposed to. So go back and restart the level 😄
After burning the franchise to the ground with those survivor games I'm glad that classic Tomb Raider is at least getting recognition again and I hope this leads to new games in the classic style.

It’s preordered already cause I’m a hardcore sucker for TR4
I dunno.
I love Tomb Raider!!!
I still haven't finished TR3 in the last package. Need to get to it.
Angel of Darkness was The last game produced by core design
I’ve already bought it lol. Love it
My valentines gift to myself
I wonder if AVGN will replay these games at all. Angel of Darkness was really funny to watch
The only thing I'm annoyed about is keeping the stupid stamina meter in Angel of Darkness. To this day the worst decision of the franchise. :( Was hoping they would remove that or at least make it optional.
Will there be a ps4 physical for this? 😮
All this video did was say what features you can do on the first remaster. YAWN* legit tip #9-#10 make no sense.
I still think 4 and 6 should be remake. But I ll play the remaster too.
yeah 60fps - 7:31
Only beat the newer ones. About half way through TR Legends now on 360.
You just need to know 1 - Go and buy 2 copies!
damn no level select once you are done with that level in terms of story?
A small addition about there being no Platinum trophy for 1-3 and no Platinum trophy for 4-6; there ARE platinums for the games on the PS4 versions of the games. The only exclusions are the expansion pack levels. Let's hope 4-6 have platinums for the PS4 versions.
I think if you manage to get all trophies in tomb raider 3 you deserve a totally unique trophy lol. Just finding where the hell to go, hidden levers, obscure and highly frustrating paths forward but very rewarding game.
I hope they add a level selector for 1-3 and 4-6.
Use level skip
@@splendidHQ Thanks. I forgot about that cheat code. I finished the game anyway. It takes a while to skip to level 17 for example, but the option is there and it's doable.
cool.
"Before You Buy" you haven't got sued yet for straight up stealing the title of another series?
They should have made rather remake, just like TR 1 - TR Anniversary
One of my biggest wishes is to just get a Tomb Raider 4 Remake
No thanks, it would ruin the games in my opinion. I personally like Anniversary but hate it as a remake.
BUY BUY BUY 🎉❤
Tank controls are the only true way to experience these games.
@@BsERoss then refer to ,,these games‘‘ as 1-5 next time, love
@@BsERossYet i played all three games with analogic and it plays like water.
Your argument is non sense, since you can do anything with modern controls and the gameplay still the same.
@@gamer-px5cu The precision you get with the tank controls, is in tandem to the grid-like levels. It's all perfectly designed. With the 'modern' controls, you're losing the ability to jump backwards/ sideways and even side step/ backwards. You're literally not experiencing how it was intended, so my argument stands.
Wonder what they will do to fix Angel of Darkness. The original was an absolute disaster
The US version was yeah. here in the UK i only encountered a couple. mostly just camera and sound bugs which were solvable by just reloading. i feel sorry for you US folks i've heard and seen the bugs you guys had to put up with :(
Too late. Already bought it the day it was announced
CRYSTAL DYNAMICS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS! IT'S MADE BY ASPYR!
You mean "SABER" Aspyr are the publishers. Crystal Dynamics can carry on crying!
Too. Late. Bought it about 4 weeks ago😊
This kind of videos you can make when you actually play the games. Otherwise it will be recognized as chip propaganda
There's no before only after you buy.
I've bought it fist hour it was announced so you kinda late
Yeah
But how does the hand stand look 😅
Openlara looks way better.
🤡
Tomb Raider AOD has always been the best!
Too late, already bought it
Remake all of these..
Almost no one wants Remakes of these classic TR games
its going to be too hard
but Tomb raider 1-3 remastered still needs updates, objects disappear when they shouldnt, only happens in the remastered, inventory background randomly causes texture bugs and black lines, inventory opens itself after you close it bug, we still dont have level select and story so far like we did on PS1, they aint done with 1-3 so why bother moving to 4-6??
did this guy just say theres no platinum trophies? if he did his research, he'll know that the PS4 does have platinum trophies and PS5 doesnt, so TR-4-6 remastered will have platinum trophies, just PS4 only.
If they didn't put so many damn trophies in the games which is overkill by the way they could have had a platinum for the PS5 version
Controls were horrible in the first remasters 3. Hope its not like this in the next 3. Yay for rentals!
how were the controls horrible may i ask? I've completed all of them twice once with tank and another with Modern they were fine.
@alexcia3221 I think you definitely have more patience than I do because even though I have played some of the older ones back in the 90s the way that controls have evolved over time in the modern day just didn't transfer over well for me within these titles
@@RavenousSpectre sorry to hear that. Can i ask were you playing the remasters on a console or PC?
@@RavenousSpectre only ask as i played the games with M&K as controller just wasn't right. then again controllers to me are uncomfortable been a PC gamer for over 20 years hah
@alexcia3221 yeah when you're really used to one way trying to go over to another format in terms of controls is kind of hard I've been a console gamer all of my life and just recently got into dabbling with PC gaming within the past couple years or so
On a deathbed, players should reminiscent all the trophy's acquired and Steam as real life achievements
🤯
I love tomb raider but I don’t like how she points her gun like a thug in chronicles.
No way you need them specs just to run an old game with new textures lol, That's overkill 😅 , Nothing going to stop people getting this on piratebay ! 😇
the modern controls are gonna be trash XD
Actually they make the game easy
@@webolabsthe modern controls in the 1-3 made the game way more difficult because they weren’t built for it
@ZacTheFirst That was what I thought, but I couldn't use tank controls, so I tried modern controls just to test, and I see that I finished many level, then the 3 games fast.
So go back and restart the level 😄
seriously they should just remake it
You need to know zero things before buying this. It's the perfect example of a no brainer.
Oh, great. Something we've been sold before, repackaged and repriced and presented as something new.
Modern gaming is trash.
Ridiculous comment. They’ve improved them all immensely, and for a reasonable price. Here 🫲, it’s the attention you wanted.
@adammskii you're cute. And easily offended by other people's opinions. Have a nice day.
@ you think I’m cute? 🥺
@@danbauer3669You fool.
After burning the franchise to the ground with those survivor games I'm glad that classic Tomb Raider is at least getting recognition again and I hope this leads to new games in the classic style.
That two of the games are shite and one of them is just okay.....
Wrong. And these Remasters will prove that some people are wrong about that. These three games are good as well like the first three.
This Clown Fiesta of opinions will end soon
No, only AoD is shite, Chronicles is okay and Last Revelation is best one next to Tomb Raider 2.
@@VitorCosta40 They were shit.... Let's be honest as AoD was a broken mess and everyone hated chronicles... I mean they were two games that killed the IP and Core Design.
IV was ok but it was so dated compared to say Banjo Kazooie. I was there playing these games and people couldn't believe they stuck to tank controls and not move on to analogue.... Even Ape Escape used analogue.
@@RIPSOE404 "Everyone hated Chronicles" are you really sure about that, I think not. I love when people says "everyone" when that is a big lie.
Chronicles and AoD are not that bad games and there are people who likes them (myself included), these games had some problems and yet they still great to play. The problems of these games was the pressure and all that stuff outside of the games, also Core Design tried to end the franchise in TR4
But no problem, the Remasters will clean that and will make the games even better, TR5 and TR6 will have their time to shine now
Real Tomb Raider games is only from TR1 to TR6, the rest is just Lara as guest character in Uncharted games
@@RIPSOE404 Whose everyone you... Your family, friends, relatives?
Who is everyone that hated Chronicles let's be honest here Tomb Raider Chronicles was only a filler game with no real story continuation from Tomb Raider The Last Revelations. But at least the gameplay was fun and story was quite interesting.
I was actually surprised to see Rome and Ireland levels as I thought it was unique and submarine level was very good. Instead of raiding Tombs or urban level design these were unique and pretty good and lots of people like them actually contrary to what your saying.
And tank controls aren't bad just because Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness had atrocious tank controls. Doesn't mean the Tank Controls themselves are bad or make game unplayable because that's false.
Look at Tomb Raider 2, 3, 4, 5 tank controls were way better in those games then Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness. And we're very responsible and accurate and made gameplay smoother.
If Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness would development cycle took bit longer then those same Tank Controls would've been very smooth like old games.
Once again you have no idea what you're talking about!
That's a no brainer - instant buy!!!!
