  • Cox Virginia brings you a surprising documentary taking you inside this horrific epidemic that we found is a lot closer to us than we realize. You will hear not only from local lawmakers and advocates, but hear first hand a victim's chilling story. Human trafficking is affecting not only people in our local neighborhoods, but often people we know. Children, college students and adults often find themselves under someone’s control before they even realize it. In perhaps our most important subject ever, In Plain Sight: Human Trafficking is a project that encompassed over a year and half and informs you of signs to look for because it can happen to someone you know.

I was almost trafficked when I was about 14.
My parents had dropped me off at the mall to be with my friend and when my friend didn't show up I needed to call someone to come get me because I didn't have a cell phone. As I was standing or walking around figuring out where I was going to use the phone, a girl about 18 years old came up to me and was trying to be really friendly, right off the bat I knew something was up with her. She told me, "my boyfriend has a phone you can use, come with me. " I told her no that's okay and she still was very adamant to get outside. Once outside I found a family with a phone who let me use it and the girl backed off. But once I went to wait for my mom to come get me, the girl came back and again said my boyfriend can give you a ride home. And at that moment, another one of my friends happened to be walking by with her mom, and I ran to her.
To this day, I don't know what would have happened but after all these years I am pretty sure this could've been it

Even with all the research in the world not much can be done. Anyoneeeeee can be a victim of trafficking. Its best to stay with groups of people to be kept safe and in well populated areas. If i wanted to take a female its extremely easy. I can drive down my street right now and ask a female to get into my car. Even if she declines i can pull out a gun and force her to come with me. Always carry a gun and stay with your friends and family

Sometimes they don’t seem like ransoms. They get into the victims life and create dependence of some sort, financial, emotional, drugs, even when their was more a need when they met. Yup, I am also a trafficking survivor and have been let down and betrayed - severely - by everybody who should have been there for me - by my "parents" who were the people who sold me (to get me out of the way so they could claim my part of the inheritance), the police who not only refused to believe me and to investigate but who accused me - the VICTIM - of having raped my rapists, church ministers who refused to believe me and who said (I cite) "such things don't happen, people have easy lives, you are the biggest fantasist we've ever met, go to a psychiatrist", society as a whole who has repeatedly over the last 22 years (since I was trafficked) blamed me and produced numerous more abusers resulting in a long line of one abuser after another - because it's arousing for a lot of men to further abuse a vulnerable abuse victim.
I suffered further abuse from organizations for rape victims - yes you've read that right, I suffered horrendous abuse from them, I suffered abuse from police, from everybody who came to hear my story.
Society continues to blame me for what happened and accuses me of being just another down and out - which is an insult considering I have not only survived but I have done so without becoming a criminal, a drug addict, mentally ill. unemployed, dependent on welfare benefits, alcoholic, or any other things that society expects from abuse victims.
The one thing I have never found would have been just one person I could trust, just one person who would be there for me, believe me, and tell me that I am worth as much as anyone else.
All I have learned is that it's impossible to trust anyone.

Trafficking is horrible and I am horrified for the persons touched by this horrific situation. However when the traffickers are the state where you live. The situation is much worsening by the day. If we as a country want to change we need to keep our families together and give as much support to those families that might be struggling with one or more issues. DCFS is the culprit and we as a nation are suffering from their interference yet we give more money to them everyday and then we get on camera and talk about the fact that trafficking is taking place.
My own family has been affected by ignorance like the government and my son might well be the next victim of trafficking because of the government

And after having seen stories on dateline Dr. Phil 2020 etc. it just makes me sad because it probably goes on in every gosh darn major city maybe even some smaller cities are don’t know. When I was 14 it was 1995 obviously 16 unit 1997 but I was a stripper for a while and sometimes they get tricked to and ever Denteley I had enough smart just to I said enough just to spiteI mean spot the warning signs that whether or not the customer was good or bad news. There’s a big difference between dancing and taking your top off and screwing ha ha so I’m getting tired of some stigma people still think a dancer or a stripper is just the same as prostitution know it’s not in most cases strippers do not fuck the customers.

'The best kept secrets have always been in our face.' 2. 'Evil is doing a lot of good '. It's easier today because our society has a system that keeps us busy and unaware. Its only going to get worse. Keep God present and continue to pray and read a chapter of the Psalms everyday (or as often as you can).
