Colby Cruz Weirdest thing about this show was that the "Commander" was basically the "highest" military and police rank in the show. Only the Mayor kinda outrank him. Only as an adult that I realised that althought "commander" sounds awesome but it was a rank lower than a captain, lol. Anyway, this show and the first command and conquer made me think that a commander was almost like a colonel.
Technically it was their fault. They decided to break rank and pursue Dark Kat when ordered otherwise. That is why they became the Swat Kats; so they could do it their own way while paying back the dept.
In the Navy, a Commander is lower than a Captain. A Navy commander is higher than an Army/Marine/Air Force Captain, which is equal to a Navy Lieutenant, at least in the US. Naval commander is like Lt. Colonel in the other branches. Police forces are a bit more confusing. Captain and commander are interchangeable or equal in many municipalities.
