I bought a 3 lb bag of your pheasant nuggets for cats and they won't eat them. They love your rabbit, turkey, and venison nuggets. I'm wondering if the bag of pheasant nuggets might be bad. They are gray. Should they have a gray color or should they be more similar in color to the turkey nuggets? Thanks.
As with any natural product, there are variable factors such as color as we are working with all-natural ingredients. For example, slight variances in produce and protein sources can be expected throughout the year which may result in small color, smell & texture variations from bag to bag. I give the pheasant nuggets to my pugs. The nuggets are gray. Of course, being pugs, they LOVE them! Cats seem to be more finicky.
Are we suppose to feed the dog the exact number of nuggets for their weight or half of the daily nugget number?
Thanks for your question! The bag back recommends a daily feeding quantity. For example, if it shows to feed 10 nuggets daily, you'd feed 5 nuggets in the morning and 5 nuggets at night. Keep in mind that our feeding recommendations are estimates intended as a starting point for your pet. Every animal is different and factors such as age, activity level, and breed may factor in to your decision to feed more or less than our daily recommendation. Why is the protein content so different between raw and freeze-dried of the same flavor? The freeze-dried states 40% protein (too high for a large breed) and the raw states 16% which is too low if that's the only food given.
Thanks for your comment. To compare any pet food nutritionals (wet or dry) you need to first do so on a dry matter basis. Only then will you be able to accurate compare foods. You can read our blog which describes how to compare foods on a dry matter basis. primal.ly/understandingGA
When comparing guaranteed analysis on a dry matter basis, you'll find that the protein content is nearly identical for both freeze-dried formula and frozen formula when comparing the same protein source.
If i put the food in the fridge ahead of time do i still need to put it in a zip bag and submerge the bag in tap water to thaw or can i just feed my dogs straight from the fridge?
Hi Ivan, thanks for your question. If thawing in the refrigerator ahead of time, there is no need for the quick-thaw method in the sink. Once thawed in the refrigerator, you can feed your dog straight from the fridge. The quick thaw method in the sink is useful when you need to thaw more quickly for a pet's meal if you haven't used the fridge thawing method. I hope this helps. Hi. Not sure I will receive a reply or not but I tried to ask anyway 😂 I’ve been wanting to buy Primal Freeze Dried Nuggets Turkey formula for my cats. I wish to know how the products are packaged? Does all diff varieties of protein such as chicken & salmon, turkey are made together or separate factories? 🤔 Thank you!

I accidentally left a frozen patty out overnight. Should I throw this out?
Hi, thanks for your question - I've been there before! We recommend throwing out if there's any doubt as to if it's still good to feed. That being said, it may depend on how long it was out of refrigeration. If it started in a frozen state and it stayed out to thaw, that would be several hours to get to the point that it was thawed enough to feed. But without knowing the timeline for this, I'm going back to my original comment, if in doubt, throw it out.
My dog and cats have been eating this food for about a year and a half now with no problems. They like the raw rabbit. However, the last bag of nuggets I bought made them sick. What should I do? I tried feeding again sometime later, thinking maybe they just were going to get sick for some other reason. But my one cat threw up real bad for the second time. I'm going to call the pet store where I bought it, but I want to report it to Primal in case they have to do a recall on it. Is there a number I should call? Anyway, I will continue feeding Primal, just not sure what to do about this because my cat threw up all over the house both times. My dog likes the raw venison too.

Don't transition off of kibble. Do not. Just do it straight up and mix with pumpkin or something. They digest at different rates...

Each formula is complete and balanced and can be fed on it's own every day. However, we do recommend Formula rotation when possible to provide your dog with a wider variety of proteins.

I have fed my Yorkie primal for years . If you have the freeze dried version I don't think it needs to be in the fridge however the fresh raw does HAVE to be refrigerated or frozen . Hope that helped
I was given a free sample of the Turkey and Sardine formula yesterday. The sales lady at the store told me to feed my dog only half of the nugget per meal due to her size. Because the sample package was so small, I couldn't read the directions on the package. I did not re-hydrate the food but gave it to her just crumbled up. She did like it and ate it all up. Is there going to be a problem that I didn't re-hydrate it first?
Because of the importance of moisture in a raw diet, we recommend rehydrating Freeze-Dried Formula when possible. That being said, our freeze-dried foods can absolutely be fed dry as is. must the food be placed in refrigerator? is it okay if the food are just kept in their bag stored at room temp? :)
The food featured in this video is raw frozen formula. It is stored in the freezer until ready to thaw and feed. Once thawed, food can stay in refrigeration for up to 7 days. When thawed and is set out to feed, you have a two hour service window out of refrigeration.

Rather than using bare hands with these frozen nuggets, use nitrile gloves (like used in medical offices). It makes for safer handling of raw meat. You can either toss them afterwards or wash (while still on your hands) in hot soapy water & hang gloves to dry.
Feeding my 2 cats costs about $120/mo but is well worth it; they've never been or looked more healthy, plus it's the only food neither puke up.
Can I just buy one pack of nuggets, thaw them and feed it to my dog? Is that all I need to do? Sorry I'm confused if I have to add something more and if this is just a base.

primalpetfoods hes puking because he has kidney failure, hes probably going to die, our doctor said feed him only cooked eggs and white rice, which is only thing he doesn't puke, i've also switched him to distilled water, i'm going to try and get him to a holistic vet. the last vet didn't even give him iv because it said that he was too far gone, i consider this nonsense and tend to get him iv fluids,

James B. Hall I don't know why some vets do that . My sister had a 9 month old puppy that ate rat poison . The first vet told her to bring him home and make him comfortable . She then called a second vet . It wasn't cheap but the dog did pull through. That same dog lived another 15 years. Keeping you in our thoughts
this is the only brand of raw food that is not only grain free but its soy free wheat an corn free which is amazing for my dog because he not only cant have grains he can not have wheat soy or corn in his diet or he gets deadly sicks i mix 4 pieces for raw twice a day in with 1 cup of dry he loves this food i looked into other brands but i havent found one thats grain free ect he loves the rabbit formula an the lamb i ran out of the raw toay an my dog protested he refused to eat the dry food lol so now i gotta drive 45 min out of my way to pick up a bag
