  • Screentones are complicated, I'm going to share how to add screentones to your digital artwork in Clip Studio Paint. This works in both Pro and EX versions!
    You can make screentones manually, edit them to include colors and even download from assets! I'll show it all here in THIS VIDEO!

      Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! This was a very helpful video and it's nice to listen to your talking.
      I'm very happen to see you're open for questions and want to use this opportunity to ask you one.
      It's about moiré and I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. You mentioned moiré in your video as well, so I hope you can give a little more information about this topic.
      Drawing with screentones it's recommended to work in 600 dpi (and monochrome). However, needless to say that you can't post the original size anywhere online as it's just far too big. I noticed it's impossible (for me only?) to export as png (or any other format) > specific size/specific resolution/percentage without that page basically dying. :') Another artist gave me the tip to slightly blur the png and then resize - surprisingly enough, it worked. But I'm being honest: Not only is this a lot of extra work, but also - even if it's only a tiny bit - I'm not a fan of having a blurred image.
      Do you have any tip on how to correctly save/export your pages so it won't create moiré?
      (I'm working on A4 binding (finish) size, default frequency 60.0, 600 dpi, monochrome - if that helps)
      Thank you very much!

      Unfortunately those are incredibly hard to avoid in the sense it isn't really intuitive. I found this article VERY helpful and when I'm struggling, I'll re-read it and follow step by step to help. I think your problem is your default frequency, but without seeing the art, it's hard to tell. I hope this helps you more than I can.

      I have been using Clip Studio for about a year now and I still have trouble making my digital art have a traditional look to it. Things like making the artwork have a more gritty inky look to it much like the Berserk manga. I have asked many people how to achieve that type of look but most of the time they say digital is digital and it will always look artificial. Are there any tips or advice you have that would help with incorporating traditional into digital, if so I would deeply appreciate it, Thank you!

    • @ArtCrumbs
      @ArtCrumbs  3 роки тому +1

      @@testsubject1508 The best advice I have is pay attention to the brushes you are using and their settings. Digital art naturally has cleaner sharper images since there isn't ink bleeding into paper. I had to search for 2 years before I found my "perfect" brush, a jiwapen of all things that I use for all my inking now. A lot of people either go for very specific brushes, that often cost money, or they make their own or they settle for what they get. I would look into making your own custom brushes and textures from scans of actual grit, splatter, spray, etc. Do these on the paper you would notmally use, or clean white paper. Scan them in at a very high resolution, 600 or more so they can be scaled up or down without losing detail. You might have to edit constrast ,but it would be authentic traditional texture. You can also make brushes from these if you put in the time to learn that. For such a specific look, making a custom set of textures and brushes unique to YOUR needs might be best! You could even sell them on the asset search as well or gumroad even.

      @@ArtCrumbs This is awesome advice! I haven't thought of making my own brushes yet, going to start making some. It will definitely be interesting to experiment with textures I made. Thank you!

I notice when I zoom in and out I get different patterns and it's really ugly on the eyes. No matter how much I adjust the tones I can't get rid of them. 2 things:
      Im really struggling with "esthetic" i gues.. I cant get that "traditional" manga style. Between my poor line work, and my poor understandig of masking layers, and my poor knowledge on "value" or gray scales, and black and white. So any tutorial recommendation, video or literature., advice or really anything to help me to improve, would be higly appreciated.
      And second, I'm a really lazy person, sorry for that, but any link to your work, FB, IG, would be cool, I will follow.
      Sorry If my "demands" don't keep on with your "critic-conversation-relation" with other artist, I'm working on that, Its harder when I have to translate from my native language to english. Anyway, Thanks for the replay, and thanks for your beautiful videos, keep it on! love and best wishes.

    • @ArtCrumbs
      @ArtCrumbs  3 роки тому +1

      Ok, now that I have time for a good reply:
      What helped me learn the "traditional look" was actually trying to replicate older pages by literally drawing on top of them. I would scan or download a page from online, put it on a template and draw over it. I would try to replicate tbe screentones and effects, even the line width/weight. Basically master studies but for manga! Once I was comfortable being more familiar wirh how pros did their pages, I was way more comfortable to do my own pages. Keep in mind the ones before were simply studies and I never shared them online, or with anyone actually.
      As for my social media, I am pretty sure you found my IG already. My other suggestion is twitch which you can find on my banner on my channel profile (or @ artcrumbs there as well). I don't really use much else.
      As for conversation, I don't mind talking about any variety of things. Critique, personal stories, feedback to me, whatever. Anything is ok! So thank you for, multiple times, leaving good comments! I appreciate them.
