I can already imagine mini-David will come out of the womb and start roasting everyone and tell them what kind of tomatoes he's gonna be growing when he gets home 😂
I'm in the same boat David, finally in a stage in life where having a kid is our next life milestone and started trying last year and now we're welcoming our baby this summer. 🎉🎉🎉 Hoping it works out for you. Kids are truly a blessing
David, when you and Ed talked about the part where our parents struggle with a lot of things such as reading mails for their monthly payment and them having to always ask you for help, I did that few days ago for my mom and had to teach her how to pay all her utilities online, because she used to send out checks for utilities and her account got used along the way because scammer be changing your mails and trying to deposit those checks in their own bank account. Long story short, websites such as Costco ask you to write password with 8 characters or more and with special character and uppercase or some crap, and I had to use exclamation mark in the password to meet their password requirement. Then my mom tried to login with password and she was cussing in Chinese saying, "Mofo, where tf is the exclamation mark on the iPad? I can't find it." Then I'm like, "Mom, you have to press the 123 button because there's another page for special character in iPad that's separate from your letters." Then she was like, "I DON'T SEE IT!" And I'm like, "IT'S RIGHT THERE!" 🤦♀ But getting back to what Ed mentioned, it is very frustrating having to deal with situations like those all the time. They just don't want to learn and want you do spoon feed them, and that's the problem I have. It's not that I don't want to help, but it's because they don't even put in the effort to try and make an improvement at the problem and want you to solve it for them like it's your problem. Then I'm telling them there's a lot of things I don't know, and I don't have anyone to ask so I just do research and learn about it myself, because that's part of being an adult. It's to figure shit out because you're not always gonna have someone there to help you.
Awee yayyyy a little one would be amazing! Back in the studio! Great episode! I will say my daughter wants to move to Korea, so she's learning the language and it's much much harder than I thought. So, Korean immigrants should get all the props for coming here and learning a totally different language.
True, language carries more than just understanding but also cultural clues. In sociology classes, we learned that some languages don't have words for snow or tropical weather. I'm debating only speaking my parent's tongue at home to ingrain it into my future kids.
@@user-pd9ju5dk5s I mean since David hasn't had anyone on with him for a while. I'd be excited for others as well. I'm just happy to see them 3 regardless. If you have an issue with them take it upon yourself to just listen tp another podcast.
@@user-pd9ju5dk5s Again, there ya go further proving my point. You are one to talk in terms of judging someone else's mental state considering your behavior.😏
If Mariel gave you the choice on naming your kid, would you pick a name based off just how it sounds, or would it have to have more meaning to it? Like after their grandparent or something like that.
David having a kid......!!!!?????? Say What!!??!??!! Nah. For real...you gonna be a great father. Just hope your kid ain't afraid of heights or roller-coasters like you!! I can't wait till you make that announcement!! Good Luck , David. Just remember they grow quick, so enjoy every minute and make thos3 memories count, my friend.....Doe Ma!!! Be safe!
No worries if you dont answer but would love to see your take or anyone else in the comments if you have ever felt like a disappointed to your parents and how to communicate with actions to better the relationship, since communication with immigrant parents can be hard and miscommunication is prevalent. Being younger than you I feel like you might have reflections how it felt for you. I felt like i have gotten some fresh air from the resentment from being brought up with swedish culture that clashes with my parents culture and living style. I have grown up listening to you healing and growing and find it incredibly inspiring to see the growth and hard work. Now being 23 I am realising it takes both parts being willing with empathy and love, but man is it hard to know how to make them not see old pattern (younger me), dependant and unstable (corresponding to how they would handle stuff) and not revert back to anger and shortsightedness Other than that when do we get a tomato update? I need tips before spring comes haha
Unfortunately there are limitations that a language can have. Even though I may be proficient with my native tongue, the language hasn’t evolved enough so that we’re able to fully express our thoughts.
Just listening to all of your podcasts affirm for me that as Koreans we anre inherently angry. The first to second generational gap is probably the widest transition. Our children from second to third gen won’t necessarily have a huge cultural difference but eventually 4th and 5th gen will have identity crisises
I disagree with David's take on parents putting in effort. That generation just did not care, just look at Asians just maybe a decade younger than you, a lot less of the issues we had, why? Because the parents had an expectation to care and help the kids assimilate. The whole generation thought that the kids were fine because they were in a better position, forgetting or not realising that you would only feel that way if you had something to compare to. I'm more than happy to not have a relationship moving forward if there was never really one there to begin with in reality, they spent their time making money and establishing themselves, why can't we do the same? We needed them emotionally but they were busy, they need us not emotionally but we're busy now. You reap the seeds you sow.
Dude stop being so obsessed with the people who grew up with the food, not everyone came from good households like me. I'm just now learning my native language and eating my native food as a grown adult. Kids don't remember shit anyway. Just enjoy the cuisine.
Wow, you are projecting more that a film on an IMAX theater screen. The part of your comment that said "not everyone came from a good households like me" is the giveaway. 😏 lol as if, anything they were talking about was about you.

I don't think that's how genes work
Ed’s mom apologized and he started his “I have no enemies” arc😭
