Thank you Lynn this information is so valuable for all competitions not only Agility. I've had my dog completely shut down in the obedience and pee in the ring she was so unhappy. Then on another occasion her nose went to the ground and stayed there until we did the recall. In her recall she run at me so hard she couldn't stop and almost knocked me over. I've not put her in an obedience ring since. This gives me hope we can maybe compete again. Agility fundamentals at Bega was an eye opener for me. I don't think we will ever compete however she loves the action so we will train at home over jumps and things for fun. The club I'm in does agility for fun I did the course so I can understand how to ask her to go over a jump or through a tunnel.
This webinar has been fantastic thank you from Shelley and Sue

Wow, thank you SO much for this. I didn't realize that my dog's "distraction" was stress! She shows her stress via stressing down - avoiding obstacles and sniffing around the ring before returning to me. She's otherwise absolutely thrilled to participate, but she does have a history of reactivity around dogs so I'm always aware that the ring environment can be overwhelming for her and do what I can to mitigate, but thought maybe she was just sniffing to take in the other dogs' smells (and maybe that is part of it, sure), but I had no idea that stressing down was a thing. Will absolutely be taking this into consideration with her impulse and recall training before we return to the ring! Thank you again!

Thank you for this info. I have stopped trialing my BC due to ring stress. She is doing better in class which is also where we trial. I will try these techniques and see if it will help her.

Thank you so much for posting this webinar. It is very helpful indeed 🤗. I have a very fast & very keen young working cocker spaniel who loves doing agility. (I’m still fairly new to agility & still learning about best handling manoeuvres to use.) I’ve done lots of training with her & she now has a very solid understanding of individual skills. My issue is when she doesn’t know what I’m asking her to do ( my fault for being unclear or she’s a bit too excited to focus on what I’m asking of her ) or/and I am behind her on a course, she gets extremely agitated and barks, spins, jumps up & nips me. I hate seeing her so upset. Should I take her out of the ring do you think? (Watching from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. )

Hi! I would take her out until you have a good communication system with her. If you want to send us a video via the chat bubble at app.oneminddogs.com of the issue then we can give you some more specific tips :)
