One thing very Chilean, is to orientate yourself using the mountains, the Andes, if they are to your left, you are facing South and if they are to your right you are facing North. If you are born and rised in Chile you have the cardinal points sense connected to the mountains. Wherever you are in Chile the sun comes from the mountains and goes to the Pacific ocean. But you NEVER think about these facts. They are part of the internal hard disk you are born with like the air surrounding you. The problem is when you are a Chilean, with this auto orientating system built in you, and come out of Chile. You wake up, start walking a few steps on any street, and you are instantly lost. The horrible sensation of not knowing where is North, South, East and West, it really hits you badly, because you have NEVER experienced anything like it. The problem get worse if you happen to be on the Northern hemisfere, because you brain see the sun comming up from South East, not from the North East, shifting you senses many degrees, and it is not comming from the mountains so it tells you "is a sunset", and you think, wait a minute, that is not right! Where is North????? OMG!!! When you look around and for the first time in your life you see no mountains nor an ocean somewhere, your heart sunk in sadness, you feel like a fish out of water. Absolutely out of place, and you cannot help it. You are empty, there is no home for you like that. No mountains!!!! What??? Then you understand that those magnificent piles of rock that you always had next to you all of your life, and never appreciated, are really a part of you, if you are a true Chilean. So if you ever go back to the USA and miss the mountains, then you can consider yourself a born again Chilean. When you are going back to Chile and you see huge mountains everywhere from the air. You heart says "Mom I´m home!!!"
Abrazos
Jon, I recommend Berlitz for Spanish classes. They have classes online. I worked there for 18 years, and it's really nice to see how students who speak very little Spanish, or none at all, improve so much. The same with English classes.
I moved to California from Santiago 23 years ago and have never been back. My trip back is getting to be possible very soon. I know it’s going to be very emotional it’s frightening
Try el Mercado la Vega in Santiago. The prices for vegetables and fruits are super low compared to the markets here in Paris and much cheaper than in the U.S. (of course Linares is a lot cheaper). Or the Mercado Central and its seafood restaurants. Or talk about real estate property rights in Chile, that is also another interesting subject with all the tomas taking place there.

Good video and correct on your point of view. I think all big cities in USA have graffiti some more than others. What I found interesting was that rental cars at the airport are only stick shift , not entirely sure they offer automatic 🤷♀️ I did not have an option when I visited. Last time I had driven a stick shift was long long time ago but quickly had to be reminded. Ideas for your next video would be the role a senior citizen in a household. USA has nursing homes and Chile the older parent is a matriarch and respected and lives with extended family until the end.

Until you live in Chile, you will not know its importance in this world. That importance is family first! I have lived in Chile over 20 years. the graffitti (i don't mean street art), tagging, scrawling on walls, houses, vehicles, monuments, any surface in chile is really disgusting. along with the smog, which you can't do much about, these are the worst first impressions i think of santiago. it's really gotten out of hand, esp after the recent uprising. i hope it stops. the street dogs are also noticeable. this from a chilean-american.

Poverty has always been with Chile. But it was really bad during Allende's time, another Venezuela, it got much better and then it got much worse again thanks to Bachelet opening the borders up to poor countries and having poor economic policies.
Jon, if you don't like this town or any other, just buy a one-way ticket to the US, we don't need foreigners, even being American. USA is not comparable with a poor third world nation, you might to be insane thinking that you had find a country powerful like the yours one. I say it seriously, Chile is a plce just for people who born here. Thank you.
Oh dear Chile is not a place just for people born there. Jon is giving his opinion. Look at all the vandalism and grofety in Chile. I know lots of chileans leaving because of it. We dont say America is just for Americans. When us Chileans are happy there.
I think you misunderstood him, he loves Chile. When he compares Chile & USA is according the state were he grew up. As chilena living in the State, when I visit Chile I see the difference too but it doesn’t mean is bad, it’s just different “Indiosincrasia de cada pais”. Don’t feel offended, there’s a beauty to have a different opinion.

Ser You tonight..
A pero las poblas
Jon you are grosso
the graffitti (i don't mean street art), tagging, scrawling on walls, houses, vehicles, monuments, any surface in chile is really disgusting. along with the smog, which you can't do much about, these are the worst first impressions i think of santiago. it's really gotten out of hand, esp after the recent uprising. i hope it stops. the street dogs are also noticeable. this from a chilean-american.
Eres el proximo embajaador turistico de chile
Espero que si!
Talk about how Chilean people are vs Americans. Do you think that American in general trust less to people?
Is a old newss
No graffiti here in the USA !!! What are you talking about gringo loco ?? Vivo en Chicago and there’s graffiti all around
The US has sooo much graffiti, and none of it is artistic
We don’t have hardly any in small town USA
👀
I imagine was pretty good, if not you were out by now
When you fly into Santiago... you need to choose any A row seat ;) And be prepared to see the Aconcagua mount just before landing at SCL
YES! Absolutely spectacular my friend! shorturl.at/oxABH
Crime, and the lack of authority of the police, because they have a government that protects the criminal, makes it a dangerous place. I love USA, California... and I am Chilean.
The first time I went back to Chile for vacation and saw graffiti everywhere, it was shocking but after a couple of weeks spending time over there I didn’t see them any longer 😂😂😂. A lot of big cities in the State have the same issue with graffiti. Love your channel!!
About lerning another language. Can't tell you how difficul is when you Have to have your fliying trainnig in the USAF in jet airplanes
Even though yo have some expertise with the language. much worse if you are in San Antonio Texas
Too much Spanglish
A question
you know what means
Skawk Ident?
Slang of pilots
Regards
We that know you before your show in La Red think that the work they did with you is not the best. I hate that transition into black and white and the distortion of the sound that happens frequently. The camera is always like flying. Your UA-cam channel is clean and direct. That is not happening in your show. You must talk with the producers about this. hugs.
Thank you.
Too bitter.
What? 😢
@@valef7004 Ok, but I wonder if it is necesary. It's more than obvious that when you are American citizen and make a travel to SouthAmerica for living there (here) you will find differences due the idiosincrasia, customs, way of life, foods, cars, streets, avenues, climate, clean areas, neighborhoods, music, dancing native, folklore, meat, salads, houses, buildings, cakes, chocolates, etcetera. Doing q video highlifhring all that, dor what? I feel unconfirtable when a foreing makes a list of negative tips. Y eso, puh.
Take the mask off your child. God dame it
