“You’re not there to make someone feel better, but to make them better at feeling.” Boom 🙌🏻

I'm so glad of this western-eastern cocktail that is brewing within our collective hearts and minds. Everywhere I look I see interesting synthesizing of all levels of truth, kick-started by the katalysator of technology.. I have faith

I love to listen to Gabor and his honesty and ability to just be real. Many in our society have lost this.

The more real we allow ourselves to be the more real people we happen to meet.

Thank you so much for this interview. I have listened to many Gabor Mate talks and interviews , but this is the first time I heard him talk about how he started to dedicate some time at the end of his workday to a longer session with patients, and how requests for him to start teaching others his methods and his compassionate inquiry started.
    Thank you ❣️
I use compassionate inquiry on myself and it has definitely softened the harsh, counter-productive, self-talk I had before.

19:51 “Fierce compassion means that you’re not afraid of the pain that comes up….”
    25:09 “There’s a reason for everything…”
Being able to compassionately reconnect with my childhood pain has helped me immensely to understand myself and to love my inner child, one who always felt abandoned and put down. I am finally letting go…. Thanks, Dr Maté!

you are there to help someone see the truth of self, and that migt come w pain but you have to pace yourself by listening to cues of patient.... he's great and hope his personal life is in peace after figuring out his own workacholism etc

24:07 Compassionate listening vs. compassionate inquiry.
25:30 How to respond to "the tragic communication of a need" : see the need underneath the words and the behavior, see them more clearly than they see themselves.

Anyone know what it means to "Mirror back to someone their true self" like was mentioned in the video? Please respond with a Mate' quote or video so I can learn more about that. I found that interesting and wanted to follow up on that.

16:30 “Compassion simply means the willingness to accept someone for exactly as they are.” And I would add that this includes compassion for ourselves and what we have been living. Such warmth and understanding in a world that sometimes seems so devoid of these.

What does it mean being held emotionally? Being connected through feelings right?

    • @oooodaxteroooo
      @oooodaxteroooo 6 місяців тому +2

Being mirrored and regulated. Its ok to be sad, Im here, we'll go through it. I'm happy that you're happy etc.
The feeling of being seen and having help with emotions that might otherwise seem overwhelming, because your own immature nervous system can't yet deal with it.
The opposite is toxicity, so you could also call it nurturing or loving, but that's mostly not precise enough.
