Amegø64 Me Too, But When I Got On My Phone On The Bus, I Cried When I Heard The Song And A Lot Of People Were Looking At Me Like “What The Hell Are You Crying About, You Have Seriously Problems”
I really like the POV of this song..... this song could have very easily become preachy or like some highschool PSA-type. Instead, this song, very much more than other Panic! songs, feels like a mouthpiece for every listener. Somehow, the 'narrator' gets dissolved. That one line about "all tied up, no more love, it's a little complicated,....I hate to see you waiting" is very much a cycle that arises in pursuing your personal visions. There are too many things you have to keep track of, others lose interest, people ask you what you are even doing with your time/life and -- often -- you reply that it's complicated. Yet you have to stick to your guns, because it isn't a choice, that vision/aspiration is very much a part of your identity. You have to see it through, ergo, manifest destiny. The line about "stranger crusaders/ain't ever wannabes" evokes two thoughts. One, is the whole subversion of organized religion (Christianity) throughout this album. The idea of wickedness is a through line is this album, as much as the soundscape that aims to make the listener feel like they are up on a grand floating island in the sky. _Say Amen(Saturday Night)_ already had undertones of a "reconciling religious upbringing with current agnostic beliefs" interpretation. However, the second idea that line brings to mind is that Brendon (the listener) is reminding himself. The people who go on a crusade in the name of something that is 'stranger' _to them_ (or at least in their POV), will never be followers or wannabes. They make a life of their own, which, in and of itself, is both admirable and a necessity. So to the people who say it has been done before, that say you will never reach the glory and quality of 'old' Panic!, that say you are a try-hard or a wannabe, that just question.....his answer is that as long as I set high, high hopes, I am following my "personal legend". _(Points if you get that reference)!)_
Honestly, I'm also really liking the overall sound of this album so far.......like Panic! changes and grows, but still stays the same. When asked what DOAB was like, Brendon said Fever. Where Fever was a high-energy vaudeville-esque carnival, DOAB was a high-energy theatrical production. Lyrically, an emphasis on angst. When asked to describe this new album, he said "bizarre" ; Ryan had described Pretty.Odd. as "well...uhh..pretty,odd....it's quite an apt title". And where Pretty. Odd. felt like frolicking in meadows and open roadside fields......Pray for the Wicked already feels like being on top of a floating city in the stratosphere. Lyrically, an emphasis on contentment. I just really like the parallels that seem to be so...organic, ya know?
I love your honest self comparison you shared here. It can be so hard to keep going when you're always trying and feeling like you're failing, but when you have a vision and you don't fear failure, there's always hope of it becoming a reality. Keep up your great work Clifford! You've already built something amazing.
Okay but imagine being in class and suddenly your teacher looks at his phone and goes "oh no Panik! at da disco haz releassed a song I cannot english now I must filmz"
Okay first off, whoa you posted this pretty fast so kudos for that!. And second, I agree with you on everything except the verse "burn your biographies, rewrite your history". I took it as forget, metaphorically, about your past. And change your future. Mainly because many people use where they came from as an excuse not to progress. Whether it be from past poverty, abuse, or some other reason. He's saying that you shouldn't let that stop you from trying to be better just because your surroundings are or seem bleak. At least that's how I took that line. I must say I do have a hard time trying due to that very reason as well as fear of failure. Hopefully one day I can overcome that way of thinking. And if it's any consolation, I think you're far from a failure Mr. Pop Professor. You not only help me understand the music I like, you also give me high hopes that my song lyrics can improve to a point where I can actually be a singer one day. And when no one around me believes I can do such a thing it's nice to find someone like you who encourages me. Thank you very much for that. 💖
Check out the explanation of "Say Amen" I did. If you didn't know, the music video actually connects to "This Is Gospel"! ua-cam.com/video/BxQ4idYR0lk/v-deo.html
I actually think the lyrics 'mama said' is referring to his mom specifically. Growing up, most parents tell they're children to follow their dreams & basically become something greater & his mama is a big part of his support system.
(I'm pretty sure that tweet is 100% connected to the song; it was in the description of the audio video and in the email from Panic's official website.) I'm always so impressed with how fast you upload, seriously. Awesome explanation, as usual. :D
It's interesting that you thought of manifest destiny in that way because I had just assumed that it was in the song the literal definition of the phrase, "obvious fate". This is a really cool video though and I enjoyed it!
Amazing video as always! The P!ATD videos are my faves, could you possibly do Hallelujah? Also congrats on being so fast to post on this song, I love it too!
p!atd songs are always great thanks pop song professor for introdusing me to them also bastille released a music video for "quarter past midnight" any chance of seeing an explanation for this???
Some of these lyrics also reflect the negative aspects of fame. I think Urie uses "manifest destiny" for a reason. There's a strong correlation between "This land was destined to be ours!* (*and if anyone else was here first, we'll sweep 'em off!)" and the way some people use and step on other people in a coldly calculating way as they climb the ladder of success. "Stay up on that rise and never come down" might refer to the unrealistic expectations we place on famous people: standing aloof on a pedestal, never making mistakes or showing flaws, more like gods than humans.
Now I feel like I have to comment because you're awesome, and seriously, the dedication. I spent 2 hours listening to the song on repeat as soon as it came out, it gave me so many feels.
I was checking ALL over the internet for it at like 12:50, it was only on iTunes, so I bought it, listened to it, and the second I finished the song, Spotify woke up and it was on there. Totally worth it.
I love this analyis, but I can’t believe you didn’t touch on the connection between “manifest destiny” and the next few lines about wanting everything in the first verse. My interpretation is that it is a statement of how being overzealous can harm others on your way to success- especially considering the emphasis on individuality later in the song. It’s a bit of a weaker connection, but an intriguing one, nonetheless.
I study letras thats kinda studying spanish anyways i LOVE this kind of videos because not only they feel like any other of my literature classes just without the pressure of college (lmao) but also because i realize that there are a lot of artist who still write lyrics and try to mean something and it's happening nowadays, it isn't something of the past only as teachers usually make it sound like. i'm really thankful♥
love this video! before watching this i had a vague understanding of this song’s meaning, and you explained it more in detail so thank you! your channels great and you keep up your high hopes! 💕
Thank you so much for being so quick at posting a video explaining a song that came out so little time ago!!!!!! And also for helping me having better marks at english class by watching your awesome videos!!!!!! Hugs from Portugal!!!!!
I love that you were able to get it out so fast! Thank you! I was wondering if you could explain some Barns Courtney songs like Hobo Rocket and Golden Dandelions in particular. Or any of his songs that'd be great. Thanks again for these videos!
I love this sm! Everyone sees new P!ATD as meaningless because the music and lyrics are more pop-sounding, but you show that the lyrics still have more meaning!
I've been watching your videos for a while now & I must say I LOVE all that you do! I decided to post this now because 1. I love P!atD & 2. because whooooaah I didn't even have time to listen to the song yet & here you are😂 YOU'RE GREAT.
I get on UA-cam and im like WOW he dropped a new vid the same day this awesome song dropped, dedicated is real! Thanks for the vid helps me get through the day!😁
It reminded me of hell cuz the echos sounds like demons and the background sounds are knife sharpening and baby giggles and the second build up sounds like someone is going insane even tho they try to make it sound happy secretly he’s singing to the devil and how he doesn’t want to let him wait
But wait. Didn't he say "they haven't seen the best of us yet" in This is Gospel too? Like, it might be kind of referring to that, which would be sad because "we" became "I" now. But that maybe also means that he still keeps going, even though he's the only one left in the band and that, after years between Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die and the new album, there's still more to come and he wants to get even higher. Idk if that makes sense, that's just kinda how I'd interpret that line
The "stranger curusaders"-line could mean that the people who are succeeding at chasing a dream that not many people are chasing are not wannabes so they don't aspire to be like a certain person because if you just wanna be like somebody else you're not doing something new and you won't get anywhere.
I believe that when he says "mama said fulfill the prophecy, be something greater, go make a legacy" can also mean the pressure on always being sucessfull, even when he was at those harder times
this song came out an hour ago. you already analyzed the lyrics, filmed a video, edited it and posted it. wow. you're dedicated.

The "one in a million" makes sense; it is "you're unique, just like everyone else" but in a more forceful, less deterministic way.
One of his best songs! Thank you for this 😊
Honestly, I'm also really liking the overall sound of this album so far.......like Panic! changes and grows, but still stays the same.

and i really like what you said.
There’s literally a song called king of the clouds
I freaked out when I saw the notification! Thank you for doing this!

I love it
Dude this song literally just came out. You are grinding man.
Thanks for making this! I love the song, but the manifest destiny line has been driving me crazy, and I'm really glad you touched on it.
I actually think the lyrics 'mama said' is referring to his mom specifically. Growing up, most parents tell they're children to follow their dreams & basically become something greater & his mama is a big part of his support system.
Love how this came out during uk exam season
The fact that he tried so hard, like gave up his lunch break for this is amazing 100 🌟
Wow, you didn't waste anytime🤔🤗
How!? It came out like an hour ago!
Caleb Nailson THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT
Also sick pfp

Thanks for explaining the lyrics so good! Now I love the song even more, because I understand the thoughts behind it better!
(I'm pretty sure that tweet is 100% connected to the song; it was in the description of the audio video and in the email from Panic's official website.) I'm always so impressed with how fast you upload, seriously. Awesome explanation, as usual. :D

The Pop Song Professor too old ?😕

I love the fact that you kno the value of a group as Patd! And appreciate them so much. You're an amazing person.
I think "the stranger crusaders ain't ever wanna be's" refers to people who make their own path to success not needing to be someone else.
Exactly. You don't get famous by being a carbon copy of some other famous person.
AWESOME! THANKS CLIFF

I JUST GOT OUT OF SCHOOL, YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON FOR ME TOO HEAR THIS FROM!
I was taking my English final when the song came out and I popped in my ear buds as I answered figurative language questions haha
the dedication! loved your video
But wait. Didn't he say "they haven't seen the best of us yet" in This is Gospel too?
Like, it might be kind of referring to that, which would be sad because "we" became "I" now. J I'm proud you noticed dear child
Well, he didn't, soo
The "stranger curusaders"-line could mean that the people who are succeeding at chasing a dream that not many people are chasing are not wannabes so they don't aspire to be like a certain person because if you just wanna be like somebody else you're not doing something new and you won't get anywhere.
How do you only have 64k subs, you deserve way more
I never thought about it like this so deep but so good
I believe that when he says "mama said fulfill the prophecy, be something greater, go make a legacy" can also mean the pressure on always being sucessfull, even when he was at those harder times
Great video man! Really appreciate it.
Whenever I feel down I will play this
You did all this in a 15-minute lunch break? You are amazing!
PLEASE CONTINUE DOING PANIC
The tweet is related to the music, it's on the description of the video
